In case anyone was looking to buy a Wii in the near future, say to upgrade from the cube to a console that can play Melee and a host of other awesome single player games, or anyone looking to put a Brawl disc into their console along with an SD card with Project M on it, you probably want to check this out.

The latest version of Wiis that are out on the market(I believe they're all black, but that might not be a uniquely distinctive feature) do not have gamecube controller ports.

You will not be able to play Melee or Brawl or Project M on it.

If you are in the market for a Wii, I would recommend not getting one of the new ones and seeing if there are older models in stock.

Those Wiis without GameCube controller ports have been out for quite a while now... although I still don't understand why Nintendo did that. It's not that expensive to add. :ohwell:

I wonder if we could still always find a way to get a controller to work via the USB ports on the Wii (and later the WiiU)... :smirk:

Nintendo love to just randomly remove stuff from newer console models.

see: removal of gba port on NDS.

Nintendo just fails to realize that old games and new games can exist at the same time; for some reason they believe that if we are still able to play our old games we'll never buy new ones. So they implement stupid **** like removing accessibility from things that already had that accessibility in older models.

Yeah I bought one of these, so I could play MKwii online, then realized I couldn't use my beloved GC controller. I immediately returned it, and E-mailed Nintendo customer support or whatever it is named. Needless to say my E-mail wasn't very friendly since the removal of such useful "feature" is stupid. I even read online that someone bought this model of Wii, with a dance dance revolution game IIRC, that uses a mat which NEEDS a gamecube port to work.

Nintendo replied to my E-mail with seomthing llike: If you want to talk about this issue, call at X phone number between ___ and ___ hours.

Well, they haven't discontinued regular Wii's yet. Think of it as what happened with the PSP go. You can't even use your UMDs on that console, it's just for people who wanted download content only. But the two versions of the console co-exist.

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with this though. Everything would be simpler if they just continued to have cube ports on all Wiis, can't be that much more expensive to have.

idk, its probably not much more expensive but they are probably making very little gain from having it anyways. i have no idea why, nintendo just does stuff

Never said that was a recent thing. I just said that they aren't able to read them since we're on the topic of Wii consoles getting features they had at some point removed.

Wii's haven't been able to read DVDs since 2009, that's not exactly new.
Wait, Wii's were able to PLAY DVDS, and they took that out?? why?!

Wii's were never able to play DVDs. Early Wiis were able to play DVDs using homebrew, but they removed the Wii's ability to read DVDs, so people couldn't do that anymore.

why dont we all have a Panasonic Q? it plays DVD's and NGC games, and comes with a nifty Panasonic branded Gamecube controller.
