Meta Knight: Fan favorite
Pit: Returning with a bang
Zamus: huminahuminahuminahumina
Wario: Main character conspicuasly absent from previous games.
Snake: Third party.

If we use this templete what do you think will fit

The thing was, Sakurai had said something along the lines of, when asked about Sukapon pre-Melee, that we "shouldn't expect him." This was likely due to the limbless thing or the obscurity thing. I lack the link, but it exists. I was disappointed when I found out...

By the way, I think the main reason why people (including me) want Sukapon in Super Smash Bros. is because he's technically the main character of Nintendo's only traditional fighting game ever released (unless you count that crap Urban Champion game). So naturally a character from a fighting game making an appearance in a fighting game would make logical sense.

Also I find the limbless reason to be a little flawed since limbless movement in video games has been around since the 80's. I think the main reason why he doesn't want to add Sukapon is because he's an obscure character from a Japanese exclusive game, and Sakurai has somewhat of a distaste for adding Japanese only characters.

@Habanero: Believe me, I definitely WANT Sukapon, it's just that I don't expect him. I'd be absolutely elated if we saw him in a Dojo update, even as an Assist Trophy.

@the limbless thing: I know, I was just thinking it may have been a possible reason. Although, couldn't it be fixed by having the limbs connected with an invisible textured limb with no hitbox? Then again, I'm not good with technical stuff, so I could be completely wrong...

Well, if it were limited to NES, then Mach Rider and Takamaru come to mind, but maybe it's time for a handheld retro? They ARE retro now by Nintendo standards due to the 3DS Virtual Console. In this case, you have characters like Lip, Prince of Sable (Japan only though), and Muddy Mole. In this case, Muddy would be my pick due to the myriad of things he can bring as far as traps, and digging.



Technically Takamaru only had a US release as a cameo, but...eh.

Opossum: Lip's not really a handheld retro. She seems more like multi-console retro because her games were in both home console and handheld.

Speaking of Lip, while I don't have high hopes to see her playable, I wish she'd finally be given a real appearance in Smash over putting Lip's Stick all the time over her. Assist Trophy-appearance could work for this pretty well.
I mean, let her be shown in Smash in all of her glory.

Kinda wierds me out that even a sticker of her daughter was labeled under her name and Lip Stick makes no reference on Lip at all in Brawl. If developers could've like made Lip Stick into an original item with a different name, I wouldn't have then minded. Maybe developers have some bias against Lip as a character overall?

Mach Rider, Balloon Fighter, Duck Hunt Dog off the top of my head. Characters like Bubbles and Excitebiker could fit the criteria too, but have very very little chance.

If characters that were Japan or US only could be included then Takamaru, Sukapon, Mike Jones, could also be listed.

The only character from Captain Rainbow that fits your criteria is Tracy, who definitely has no chance. The others aren't dormant (Birdo, Little Mac), didn't debut in the NES era (Lip, GiFTPiA and Chibi-Robo characters) or were Japan only (Takamaru, Hikari, Ossan).

Something like that. OKAY FINE, that's a pretty big hint.

...Really want to say it's Mach Rider, since that type of stuff seems to pique his interest, and it would be perfect on the 3DS.

My guesses are Nazo no Murasamejo or Mach Rider. Those seem like they could be expanded upon quite well while still fitting the original "spirit" of the game like Uprising did. Plus Takamaru and Mach Rider are fairly popular retro characters.

Most of all: LOCKING UP Lip's Stage in localised versions of Planet Puzzle League ( unlockable in Japan-version.)

That'd be a bummer. "You know that reboot character I was talking about? Well, it was Captain Falcon." That is a possibility though. He didn't say he was necessarily going to be a NEW character, unless I'm forgetting some context from what the interviewer said.
