HAHA, maybe they actually knew something about Fire Emblem 12. I know it was the first game in the series I was really looking forward too since I got the first one that was released internationally (Fire Emblem 7) and loved it. Needless to say, the game not leaving Japan really made me upset.

On a related note, I am pretty hyped for 13. It looks promising. I wonder whether I'll like Krom or not, as well as the series' new additions. As you all know, I am neutral on him, although I like how his character seems to be developing. Plus I want to really see what the future direction of the series is, especially if Fire Emblem 6 or 7 gets remade.

Sorry, but Brawl was not worthy of a perfect score over Melee and Street Fighter II didn't get one. Brawl didn't basically re-create the genre like SFII, it didn't redefine fighting games like Melee, and it didn't introduce a massive crowd of new gamers to fighting games or games in general like either SFII or Melee.

Soul Calibur deserved a perfect score (although not over Street Fighter II), though.
Don't forget that they gave Nintendogs a 40/40. To be fair, I wonder if there were cultural differences that influenced that. IIRC, most people in Japan can't have dogs because a lot of people live in apartments.

I wouldn't say SF2 re-created the genre. Rather, I'd like to say that it defined it. Fighting games prior to that game were games in the vein of Final Fight, such as the original Street Fighter that no one talks about. In fact, the closest thing you had to a human one-on-one fight was playing Ryu against Ken who was a head swap at the time, but the sequel went further by introducing a diverse cast in both playstyles and nationalities. In game history, there's no doubt that SF2 is a major milestone. Rather it deserved a 40/40 at its time is a subject of debate. IMO, it's a fun game, but I found it more frustrating in comparison to today's fighters (regardless of difficulty) as the game felt more stiff. That, and the AI was a cheating ******* when it came to charge moves.

Melee, I consider to be an evolution in 64's design. 64 was, in comparison, an alternate take on fighters that, while popular, was not always looked at in a competitive view. It wasn't quite up there with other fighters that changed the genre like Tekken and Virtua Fighter. Melee changed that with the high levels of both technical and strategic play. The cool thing I like about it, besides being an excellent game, is that it also worked as an ambassador to other fighting games. IMO, it serves as both an alternative and an introduction.

Brawl? When I quit Brawl, I considered it like that ***** girlfriend who wasn't who you thought she was. SF4 caught me on the rebound and it's been great ever since. Again, historically speaking, I consider both SF2 and Melee to be milestones in both videogame history and the genre. IMO, Skullgirls could very well be the next milestone.

And off topic, I want this on Final Destination. Loved watching this show even if I did fall asleep watching it a few times.

Again, I think at least some version of Street Fighter II (probably the last of the re-releases in the 4th Generation of gaming would be the best version; that or the last re-release of it) deserves a 40/40. The controls are a tad bit stiff, the single-player isn't the greatest, but there were only a handful of good fighting games before that. I wouldn't consider any of them "great." I consider Street Fighter II not just great, revolutionary, and a game that put the genre on the map, but "the game" all other fighting games seem to get compared to (fair or unfair). Without Street Fighter II the audience for fighting games would simply not be as big. I know it was my 1st fighting game, as it was for many other people.

Melee was simply the ultimate mesh of multiple genres (specifically platform titles and party games) with fighting games. It did everything Smash 64, but better. Crisp controls, easily some of the best graphics of its' time, revolutionary simple to learn yet difficult to master game play, incredible technical skill, loads of extra content (I can't think of a fighting game with half the content of Melee before Melee came out), an incredible cast of characters, ridiculously diverse stages, and so many collectables!

Like Street Fighter II it brought loads of gamers into the genre. When it was 1st released, it was the hot thing. And compared to the games released in that Winter of 2001 (Halo and MGS2) it is by far the most popular still to this day.

And I agree on skullgirls. I've been watching that game from afar for quite a while now.

Also, on a side note when talking about "revolutionary" fight games, I thought I'd mention a few more.
Soul Calibur - derp. Mentioned it. It really did wonders for the 6th Generation of Gaming, and 3D fighting games.
Tekken - The original king of 3D fighting games.
Mortal Kombat - Brought a brutal edge to fighting game.

Smash Wii U and 3DS - Hopefully the fighting games of all-time. Probably not, but a man can dream!

The only thing Mortal Kombat did was bring about the ESRB system. Seriously, has the series done anything that changes the genre or advances it in terms of gameplay? Before you say story mode with MK9, BlazBlue did it first with its visual novel format (which is used in Skullgirls). The only thing I can think of is the block button, but that makes crossups impossible.

Mortal Kombat's role would be drawing in young players with promises of gore and violence, and then when they realize it is a poor quality fighter, they'll find their way to Street Fighter. Mortal Kombat was pretty well-known, y'know.

Mortal Kombat didn't revolutionize the genre like Tekken, Street Fighter, Smash Bros., and Soul Calibur. However, it did have an impact. That is why I brought it up. I think the blocking mechanics and defense vs. offense mechanics it offered. I also felt the "mature" play style, character designs, and overall vibe of the game offered a breath of fresh air. Plus the 1st 3 Mortal Kombat games (and the last one) are always fun to play.

I do think that block button addition has created a "lightning rod" in fighting game communities. Now several games have block buttons. Smash has something similar to it in the bubble shields, obviously. Really having or not having a block button in several fighting games could make or break the (competitive) balancing, specifically on offense and defense.

I think the use of a block button depends on the game. In Soul Calibur, a block button makes sense or else it'd hinder the famous 8 Way Run. How many fighting games besides that and Mortal Kombat make use of one?

And the "mature" vibe never really appealed to me. Honestly, it's gory for the sake of being gory. I never saw maturity in that. Now, give me realistic blood loss, bruises, etc., and we'll talk.

Finally, I'm not the only one who plays Tekken. Oh, Yoshimitsu for Smash 4.:awesome:

I can play Tekken to. I'm ****ing dangerous with Wang
Speaking of, I imagine Impa would have some similar sort of fighting style as Wang has. With the palm pushing and the way he kicks, mixed with some atletics like Sheik has, and of coarse special moves as the barrier, Deku Nut, and a magical attack that slows down time when struck (reference to the Time Portals in Skyward Sword).

What's good?

Mortal Kombat didn't really revolutionize the fighting game genre in terms of gameplay (except for it introducing the concept of juggling), definitely. But it's still a great, fun game series, and honestly, it's the only fighting game gaming series out there that actually really cares about its story and also it has the best atmosphere of any fighting game series, hands down. It also has the best characters, IMO. I mean, how many games, let alone fighting games, do you know, that'll let you play as Shaolin monks, femme fatales, ninjas, cyborgs, blind telekinetic swordsmen, and four-armed beasts all in one game?

And the "mature" vibe never really appealed to me. Honestly, it's gory for the sake of being gory. I never saw maturity in that. Now, give me realistic blood loss, bruises, etc., and we'll talk.
It's not really just gory, it's over-the-top and cartoony, as well. Like, being able to perform Friendships finishers, turn into animals and perform Animalities, dropping an MK arcade cabinet onto your opponent as a fatality, using razor-sharp hats to cut people's heads off, and then there's the Brutality finisher where you do a long-*** combo until the opponent literally explodes. It's not just the gore of it, it's the surprise factor in the finishing moves

Anyway, enough on my favorite fighting game series out there (besides Smash, of course)

I'm not a huge fan of Mortal Kombat, but I can play it. It's fun jumping over chains and ice blasts from Scorpion and Sub Zero cause of my mad 2D platform skills. The final battle of DKC2 especially helped with this. Don't really like its characters though. Feel Tekken and Street Fighter have better characters. Could just be my opinion though.

Still, Smash has the beat cast out of any fighting game I played. Even if it has Sheik :awesome:

I'm bored so I'm gonna make a mini-moveset (my first ever moveset, in fact) for Shao Kahn:

Shao Kahn

Neutral B: Explosive Ball- (fires a green ball of energy from his mouth)

Side B: Charging Spikes (shoulder rams opponent leaving a trail of white shadows/afterimages behind him, like Johnny Cage's Shadow Kick)

Up B: Uplifting Knee (rising knee attack, can be used as a recovery move and leaves a shadow trail just like Charging Spikes)

Down B: Wrath Hammer Attack (summons his Wrath Hammer from hammerspace and smashs the opponent over the head with it, if successful, the opponent can't move for a few seconds, setting them up for a free hit)

Final Smash: Three-Head Hydra (morphs into a three-headed hydra and terrorizes the battlefield like his Animality from the ****ty 2nd MK movie, MK: Annihilation)

Up Taunt: Faces forward and laughs
Side Taunt: Puts one of his feet forward, points forward and says, "You will die, mortal!"
Down Taunt: Points towards the ground and says "You weak, pathetic fool!"

Win Quote: Turns to the 2nd place winner behind him, says "It's official, you suck!" and laughs after that. The opponent is briefly shown with a look of shock and then sadness before the camera goes back to focusing on Shao Kahn again

I play Tekken too, but I haven't played it a whole lot in quite some time. Xiaoyu in Tekken 3 was my first main.

@Diddy
I was suggesting Bajiquan/Leo type moves for Lucario in the past.

Not as much as me when she gets confirmed as playable. :awesome:

That will be a great day! And then she'll come out of the WiiU, walk up to you, and you guys will start making out. Then you'll wake up and realize that not only do you have to clean your sheets, but that Impa still will never be in Smash.

Also, Shulk for Smash 4. Like holy fish and chips, you guys. Xenoblade Chronicles is unfathomably amazing, and I don't even LIKE JRPGs. It really should be represented in Smash. It's 2nd party, right? Or first?

LOL that was a Hoot. :smirk:

....

anyway

I think it's a first party game luckily. The game is soooooo good. I see why it changed the way JRPGs are looked at now. They need to make more.

JRPG= Japanese RPG?

Also, I'd hate to ask two questions in the same post, BUT what exactly can Shulk do? I've only seen what he looks like

It would be funny if against the final boss of the story/adventure mode Doc suggested to Little Mac to use low blows if he needed to! :rotfl:
Well I was only covering potential playable characters when making those speeches. I have not put any thoughts into doing special conversations which relate to bosses.

Oops, I didn't watch myself. Either way, in that playthrough Shulk does plenty of fighting.

EDIT: I guess fighting in cutscenes doesn't count but you know what that means :smirk:

Damn you Soul Calibur, killing my Cassandra4Smash dreams.

I still have Ivy and Nightmare though.

Anyone of those SC characters would be badass for Smash

Why single out Soul Calibur for "not deserving representation" in Smash? No third party character technically "deserves" rep in Smash since this is a first party Nintendo game

Nice job, Metal Overlord on that moveset. Here's mine for Rayman:

Neutral B: Punch: Charges his punch.
Side B: Spin Punch: Spins and, well, punches.
Up B: Fly: Spins his hair, like in Rayman Origins.
Down B: Ground Pound: Jumps in the air, then smashes hit feet onto the ground.

Taunts:
Up Taunt: Does a pelvic thrust.
Down Taunt: Spins, then trips.
Side Taunt: Seperates his arms really far, then give a face of pain when the fists slam back into his face;). Also does 5% damage if enemy is hit.

That's it.

Edit: Is Maxwell a second party character? Because he's awesome, and deserves some recognition. Maybe a trophy or sticker. *shrugs*

I also forgot about Mitsurugi, too. Goddam, I really need to play Soul Calibur II again LOL

Still though, Necrid and Talim would probably be my most wanted (though neither'll never happen, especially not Necrid :()

Thank ye Cobalsh! That moveset of yours looks decent, too, though I don't know **** about Rayman (I always confuse him with Ty the Tasmanian Tiger )
