Of course bug Pokemon are popular for Smash. It's the Japanese, you see. They love fighting insects, so it's only natural they want bug characters in a fighting game.
I did not look into Japanese opinions during pre-Melee. I only started doing that for pre-Brawl.

So Heracross's requests were by Western Smash Bros. fans.

I remember Scizor was also popular around the time of Melee.
Scizor was a popular Pokemon at the time too, but I did not see as many requests for him for Smash Bros. as I did for Heracross. Personally, I think the designs for Heracross and Scizor are better than Genesect's design.

What kid didn't catch bugs in their childhood. Locked within the exoskeleton of bugs lies our earliest memories.

That is why we are annoyed by bugs as we grow older. Painful reminders.

To crush bugs... is to crush our childhood dreams.

...And that is why I want Genesect in Super Smash Bros? To crush him to satisfy an underlining, subconscious pain from a traumatized childhood? Wow.

Pretty sure catching bugs was the entire inspiration for the Pokemon series.

As for next year's movie there is a chance it could have a 6th Gen Pokemon, however, it wouldn't have a large role in the plot to actually be significant outside of being a new Pokemon. There is also the chance for R/S remakes, so that may play in as well.

As for the new Black and White 2 infomation this weekend with a "new" Pokemon, I'm betting on the reveal of Meloetta's Step form.

Pfff you don't understand. The beetle buzzing around you taunts you with those memories of happier times. You crush it out of contempt knowing you can't go back to being so carefree.

Go away beetle. I have to get back to work. Is that what you say?

I still think its interesting that Meloetta never took off in popularity, I was thinking it would have been the successor to Gardevoir (a feminine anthropomorphic-like Pokemon) and its even a legendary, however, considering that its big screen appearance is going to be with the Pikachu movie this year, it probably won't have a chance to draw a massive fanbase for Smash Bros. like Zoroark, Victini, and Genesect.

Hmm, I just saw an interesting possibility for the Wii U controller and fighting games:

Could it be used as an arcade stick?

I can't quite see it being used like in that picture. I don't think it'd be very ergonomic. It'd be great as a guide that comes with the game.

Still, I don't think the controller supports multi-touch which fighting games need. For SF games, you'd need two buttons for either EX moves or throws and three buttons for Supers/Ultras. Lots of 3D fighters require presses of two buttons at the same time, sometimes more.

Wii U probably will not me compatible with the Game Cube controller.

Some Melee fans will disaprove this.

Think of it this way. Super Smash Bros. Wii U could allow for Smash Attacks to be performed via the touchscreen as a cheat in a manner like the C-Stick. Would make it simple for people using the Wii U tablet, and when someone is streaming the game onto the tablet the second slide pad can still be used for short hand smash attacks. You have both options that can work together.

The left side of the tablet can be for GUI interface, and the right for smash attacks.

To illustrate the decline of the Zelda series in Japan:

Donkey Kong Country Returns sold 315K in 2011, with 950K overall.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword sold 300K overall.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land also sold 537K in 2011.

You do realize that trying to encourage a pseudo-C-Stick isn't going to work on me, right?

I had two main ideas for SSBU.
1. Individual lives... We really should have the option to make one character have more lives than the other.

2. Custom effects individually Even with choosing more lives for an opponent we get too good for even level 9 computers. After a while you can crush them while hardly taking any damage. We should be able to add things like metal, clear, mega, mini ect. to a specific player instead of for everyone. I think recreating a fight between mario and luigi vs a mega metal bowser would be fun. (am I the only one that likes to make scenerio battles between characters of similar games?)

I think this illustrates what I am trying to point out. Excuse the crudeness of this mockup.

There is definitely a better way to do this... Probably having the buttons closer to the edge for starters.

You should have made a space for stored items.

Except you shouldn't have, because in the time you spent making that, you probably could have caught a decently sized beetle.

Stored items? Is this something like Kirby Squeak Squad?

Ok, I can see where you're coming from now, even though I still don't want a C-Stick in any form at all in the next Smash. I could see the right half serving as a storage for items and assist trophies. That still raises the problem of how that would work for the others that don't have the Wii U controller or they don't like playing on that controller. Knowing Sakurai, he wouldn't want that to happen with the Wii U version. The 3DS version is perfectly fine though.

Uprising uses the touch screen for storing weapon powers, bombs, and the occasional picked up item such as grenades.

It can be an option for the Wii U controller. Probably geared more for single player experience, but also active for those who want to use it. Besides, most people not using the Tablet will probably be using CC Pro's or CC's. I know I will.

3DS version I can totally see this happening since, you know, the 3DS doesn't have a second nub.

I was thinking that maybe Master Ball from Pokemon games could be an item in Smash 4. It would be different from the regular Poke Ball in that Master Ball only releases legendary Pokemon (eg. Mew, Lugia, Deoxys, etc.) while the Poke Ball only releases non-legendary Pokemon (eg. Electrode, Goldeen, Snorlax, etc.) This way we could get more unplayable Pokemon in Smash especially now that we have five generations worth of Pokemon to choose from.

Here is a Bowser Jr./Shadow Mario moveset I came up with a couple months back. What do you guys think?

B-Neutral--- Fire Ball---Bowser Jr. breathes a fireball, which travels for about as long as Wolf’s laser, but faster. Chargeable. When fully charged he spits out 3 fireballs at once.

B-Side---Sonic Roar---This move is from Mario Strikers Charged. It sends a large sound wave to resonate across the stage. It does moderate damage. More importantly, if used close up, it will stun opponent for about three seconds. It can wake up other players.

B-Up---Koopa Clown Car---Junior’s own personal Koopa Clown Car is being used as his recovery move. It can move in all directions, at about the same speed as R.O.B’s recovery move. It lasts about 5 seconds before it disappears.

B-Down---Transform---Bowser Jr. raises his paintbrush above his head and coats himself in paint, turning himself into Shadow Mario. It works just like Zelda’s transformation move, albeit, a bit faster.

Final Smash---Mecha Bowser---In honor of his father, Bowser Jr. has erected a giant metal monument to his dad, including a flamethrower and an endless array of Bullet Bills. When Jr. activates his Final Smash, the Mecha Bowser rises in the background to rain terror on Junior’s foes. He jumps on its head and lets loose a flamethrower by holding down the A-button. With a simple press of the B-button he can launch a Bullet Bill. You can change the direction the weapons launch. It lasts about 10 seconds before disappearing.

Shadow Mario Special Moves

B-Neutral---Paint Shot---Shadow Mario fires a ball of paint at his opponent. However, the paint may randomly select a different after-effect. A 1 in 5 chance of catching fire, slowly doing damage for 10 seconds, a 1 in 10 chance of freezing the opponent, and a 1 in 50 of doing 100% damage.

B-Over---Sticky Paint Ball---SM shoots a ball of gooey paint at his opponent, slightly slowing down reaction time and running speed. The more Sticky Paint Balls that hit the opponent, the slower they get.

B-Up---Paint Portal---Shadow Mario creates a portal below him with a stroke of his brush. He falls into it and disappears for a moment giving you a second to choose where the second portal reforms, which he then falls out of to safety. There is a downside to this otherwise, very good recovery move. You become very vulnerable when you land.

Down-B---Transform---Simply put, you change back to Bowser Jr.

Final Smash---Mecha Bowser---You revert back to Bowser Jr. and use Mecha Bowser as normal. Nothing special…

Caeda is the most "Double Voted" character, yaaaaaay! Dumb *****.

But I cleaned it all up. SOOO don't look at my results based off of what they say on the site. I have the double count stats. LISTEN TO MEEEE. Whoever did that just made my poll a chore, much less fun >:

Gardevior never had a big role, besides in Pokemon Dungeon (Which is the best selling spin-off Pokemon game) I think her popularity came from people liking her as a Pokemon in general.

I've already blamed 40 people at various points of cleaning it out, lol. It IS FUNNY, but I'm hoping this repeat offender (He's done this before) doesn't hit me so hard next time.

Oh I can tell you where Gardevoir's support came from... >_>
NOW STAR, yes, some came from that, but she was a well received Pokemon IN GENERAL.

I still want to get Return to Dreamland

Only reason I haven't yet is because I prefer handheld titles to console

Edit: Gardevoir is "Well Perceived" by a very ...strange (*cough*anthro*cough*) portion of the community

Hot off the presses, here is some new FE: Awakening info. Look's like they continue to borrow elements from other FE games.

- one of the major themes is love of the characters
- marriage system added to the game
- marriage elements from Super Famicom's Fire Emblem Seisen no Keifu were referenced
- increased the variation of the possible couple combinations
- marry any of your allies
- this includes your My Unit characters
- includes special graphics for proposals
- it was suggested that the team make kiss faces for all the characters
Makes me think of Harvest Moon.

I think this might be the last hurrah by the Sheeda fans. The Female Fire Emblem Character Bandwagon has dumped Sheeda over at GameFAQs and has embraced Anna as their new favorite female flavor of the month. The funny thing is that in Japan the most wanted female Fire Emblem character still is Micaiah.
