I still can't get over Krystal being on that roster and Dixie Kong being on the outside looking in. That leaves a nasty taste in my mouth, especially after playing DKC2 recently. Damn that game is still mind-blowing. I remember first getting it with the Official Nintendo Power Guide of said game. Both the graphics on the guide, the game, the music, the atmosphere, and everything about that game blew me away. I was so hyped for that game after playing the 1st DKC. Yet somehow DKC2 not just met expectations, and not just surpassed expectations, it blew them OUT OF THE WATER!!!

DKC2 was basically a religious experience for me. It was one of the most influential games on me. That game made me think "wow. This is what all video games should strive to be." Other games that made me think that in my childhood would have to be Super Mario Bros. 3, Mega Man 2, Street Fighter II, Chrono Trigger, Super Castlevania IV, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Star Fox 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Super Mario 64.

Smash 64 and Melee as an added bonus. ;)

I love how Castlevania IV and Metroid III added "Super" to their title, because Super Castlevania IV and Super Metroid are SUPER versions of previous games in those franchises.

Edit: I love this arrangement of this song from Fire Emblem 5. Granted, I haven't played much of said game, but the song it had in Brawl was fantastic!

I know he has I was meaning more in the realm of executives who had the power to make it happen.
Ono doesn't have any pull? I don't know Capcom too well, but I could've sworn they actually let him do his thing there.

As for why Layton was featured in that exhibit alongside other Nintendo properties, I am guessing its because the Layton titles were published by Nintendo of America, and the Nintendo World Store is in New York.
More specifically, Layton's the only series that's A) exclusive to Nintendo platforms (not counting mobile devices), B) entirely published by Nintendo outside of Japan, and C) actually popular. I bet none of us could think of another series that gets confused for a Nintendo IP so often.

I'm not sure about Castlevania, I'll let Toise handle that.
Problems with Castlevania:

- No particular interest from anyone with pull at Konami
- Metal Gear overshadows it; this might not be a hard restriction, but it's certainly a strike against it
- CV wasn't ever mega-popular to begin with

Most of CV's problems stem from poor management at Konami. As much as you guys knock on Capcom or SE or whoever, Konami is worse. It's a shame too, this series is among the best fits for Smash.

Not that relvancy matters anyway...
Funny thing is, neither Castlevania nor Mega Man were ever truly relevant like Sonic or Metal Gear have been.

Wow, what a great photograph!

What do you mean=??? Mega Man had a lot more support to be in the next smash bros. game than Snake did before he was confirmed. Plus Metal Gear wasn't anywhere near as relevant as Mega Man until Metal Gear Solid in the late 90's. Even now, I bet you more people have heard of Mega Man than (Solid) Snake, or would recognize Mega Man more than (Solid) Snake. That's coming from a massive fan of both franchises.

Anyways, this arrangement of the Onett theme from EarthBound is pretty epic. Here's the original Onett theme, since it's worth listening to, too! :)

They skipped an important part of the song.

From :49 on in the original you hear a second instrument playing something different.

The Arranged version doesn't have that

Yeah the arrangement didn't have the bass-sounding/acting instrument like in the original. Still, it's a great and catchy arrangement. Really, the EarthBound series has great music.

I'm talking about franchise success in general, not Smash demand (which obviously favors Mega Man). Prior to MGS1, Metal Gear was on the same par as Mega Man, Castlevania, Metroid, Kid Icarus, etc. The only real difference was how much more prolific Mega Man and Castlevania were back then.

Right now? It's probably the worst off of the bunch. But it doesn't matter for Smash anyway, so...

edit: try this for Onett

Uhh... no. Metal Gear, the best-selling game in the series, sold just over a million copies. The first three Mega Man games sold at least 3 million copies, Mega Man was everywhere. There was Mega Man merchandise, shirts, all kinds of spin-offs, Mega Man was on Captain N, and Mega Man even had his own show, etc.

Metal Gear pre-Metal Gear Solid (which was Metal Gear, Snake's Revenge, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel) didn't even sell two million units. Castlevania and Mega Man, Metroid grew a cult fan base, and even Kid Icarus with two games (one being a Western exclusive remake/updated version of the original) outsold the Metal Gear franchise.

One Metal Gear Solid hit shelves though, Metal Gear was king. Metal Gear 1 and 2 were good games, but the series wasn't great or well-known until Metal Gear Solid.

But I do agree with you on Mega Man. The franchises' future seems sad at best. That is why I am clamoring for Mega Man that much more than I was pre-Brawl. I was all for Mega Man pre-Brawl. Mega Man was my #2 most wanted newcomer behind Toon Link and Diddy Kong.

As for Castlevania, it will probably always now be a smaller fan base than other more well-known franchises, but it's fan base is loyal. That is especially true since the Castlevania developers dish out some high quality games. All of those DS Castlevania games are fantastic. I need to catch 'em like!

Edit: That version of the Onett theme is excellent. Great link Toise. That would be my Choice for the best Onett theme rearrangement I've ever heard. ;)

Also I really don't think we want to use Captain N as a barometer of success.

Now I get to skip the rest of your phony sales-talk.

The whole Mother 1+2 album is great, so check those out too.

The Blade weapon in Uprising makes me think of Saki.

Did John just try to argue with Toise. The fool.

Bullet Blade - The Bullet Blade fires a hail of explosive bullets. It's homing ability and melee attacks aren't very good, but its shots does not decrease in power over distances, so there's no need to stay very close to foes.

Ball Cannon - Inspired by the weapons seen on pirate ships, the Ball Cannon shoots iron balls with devastating power. Its continuous fire creates a hail of smaller spheres sure to turn any scurvy dog into swiss cheese.

Ball Cannon it is then. Seems similar enough to King K.Rool's weapon in DKC2.

If I get Uprising, I'm totally maining the Volcano Arm. I wish there was a possible magma-wielder for Smash.

Does anyone here seriously like that game?

Just wondering. I'm sure of the answer, but assumptions leave you dead most of the time, so..?
Its a good game, daytime levels are fun. There are some of the Werehog levels that I actually found tolerable. The rest can go die in a fire.
Also John thinks I'm like some troll 'cause my posts are simple.

I actually..... Kinda liked it. >_>

Werehog wasn't as horrible as people made it out to be, sure it was poorly made and the camera made using it frustrating, but it was decent in my opinion and that actually made me enjoy normal Sonic ten times more in that game. I hated that little fox thing in the game though.

"The Paw Pad Orbitars are too cute, aren't they? They have a short charge time, and shots bounce about like an excited kitten. Shield yourself with the backward-dash charged shot, or circle around enemies using continuous fire."

Meowth confirmed. That's right.

Can anyone show me a video of what Dillion can do?

:phone:
Google it, you lazy ****.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fh_FHbo8kL0

EDIT: If he somehow gets in the game[I'd sure like it], I think planting a little attack tower on the stage would be an interesting feature.
The problem would be with moving stages...
I think it would work like a Pikmin[in terms of damage and knockback], but it would stay put in one place, shooting.
