Kid Icarus Uprising had a good opening in Japan (a little over 130K). The question remains whether the game will have any kind of legs. Supposedly its getting good word of mouth. Sakurai did say that Uprising's reception would be a determinant for how he would follow through on Smash 4.
That sounds a little odd coming from Sakurai. Especially since so far sales haven't mattered. Link please.

Well that is a positive for him. Although it is curious what he means when he says "follow through"?
I think he meant in terms of how he would develop Smash 4. I think if Uprising is successful, there will be some aspects to Uprising that will be incorporated or expanded upon in Smash 4. I do think the AR card thing is one such idea.

Whichever direction he decides to steer the game towards is fine by me so long as he gives us more WiFi options. Having the ability to limit opponents by region would do wonders for the issue of lag.

The Wii was barely stronger than the Xbox, so I wouldn't totally throw that report out. However, I think that report might be using older information from last year or earlier this year when the Wii U was planned to be released much earlier, and wasn't as (fully) developed.
Barely? The gamecube was barely stronger than the Xbox, and the Wii was several times stronger, so it's plenty more powerful.

The only thing I've ever heard was that the Wii U was going to be more powerful than what we got now, but not the extent that the other next gen consoles aren't to overshadow it in that sense. Power is all that Sony and Microsoft has really.

As for Kid Icarus Uprising, if Sakurai takes what he learned from it to Smash 4, I am thinking we can expect something pretty good. :D

Oh, and

Whichever direction he decides to steer the game towards is fine by me so long as he gives us more WiFi options.
this. That is the most important thing. We need an online system that can make a lot of replay value, with rankings, and downloadable content. That'd make for a monster of a game.

Long time no see Holder.

Even though there is no explicit information out for the system yet I do think there will be an early leak prior to E3. Before the Wii was "officially" unveiled at it's following E3, information about the Wii was leaked a day prior. Have a feeling history will repeat itself; but don't expect anything now, wait until farther into May.

Long time no see to you too. I generally find it pretty intimidating to post here because of how fast posts come in at some points, but I may dabble. The fourth installment is the reason why I signed up here.

This thread moves pretty fast because of the mixture of social thread/gaming thread. Guarantee you a month from now it will be even worse. If you need to you can always use the SSB4 Discussion Group. As it gets closer to E3 that is where I am going to transfer too. If this thread is going to be like last year's this time E3, this thread will be bottle necked by an influx of new users and returning users. That is why I went ahead and created the E3 Discussion Thread, so that way come E3 the core group of us can discuss the latest E3 happenings without wading through everyone else.

Dangit, I feel bad knowing how much I have posted here. Half it was due to unemployment though and boredom. I miss Hex though. :(

Anyways, back onto a topic. I've been running some ideas for a Kid Icarus: Uprising stage, and I have to say I like Tri and Pieman's suggestions. Having centurions pulling a platform through the air with scenes from Uprising playing out in the backdrop.

Wow... 9,000 posts in this thread alone... You could make a book out of all of the things SuperOmega has said. @_@

And yeah, I may do that, but hopefully the E3 thread doesn't blow up too bad from people leaving here to go there. Just imagine if they have a couple second teaser or mention of the new Smash Bros... dear god..

Uprising Stage? Never thought of that... Definitely the
Chaos dimension. You could have portals rip open and transport the stage to all various parts of the game like a human city, the Underworld, Skyworld, Aurum Hive, etc. That'd be way too intense.

@Star: Same here. I get out at the end of the month though, so hopefully this summer I can get a job.

@Holder: Sounds like a good time to send you an invite to the Backroom social group. ;)

I swear the boy never slept for more than an hour. That is how he was able to rack up so many posts. It is, frankly, extraordinary how he managed to pull it all off in the span of one summer.

All I remember about this thread last year is I had just gotten off work. Logged onto my PC, checked some of the news and came here to see what responses were like. There was around 50+ people viewing, and 20+ people posting in this thread. It was so bad whenever I tried to post something there would be a ten post lag. Every 5 seconds there was a new post. Crazy.

Are you kidding me=??? The Xbox in the 5th Generation of Gaming was the most powerful console in terms of hardware. The PS2 and Gamecube were way below it. The Wii is barely an improvement on the Gamecube graphic-wise.

Heck, the Wii didn't even support 1080i or 1080p. Just look at the graphics from the Wii's best game (maybe Metroid: Other M) to the most graphically advanced PS3 game (probably Uncharted 3) and Xbox 360 game (Mass Effect 3 would be at least close).
The only thing I've ever heard was that the Wii U was going to be more powerful than what we got now, but not the extent that the other next gen consoles aren't to overshadow it in that sense. Power is all that Sony and Microsoft has really.
Umm... no. This is pure fanboyism. The PS3 and Xbox 360 have dozens of classic games. The Uncharted series (1-3), MGS4, The Elder Scrolls IV and V, GTA IV, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Soul Calibur IV, Street Fighter IV, Mortal Kombat, a bunch of older classic games games, independent arcade games, a much larger selection of download-only games, a bunch of backwards compatible games (PSx, PS2, Xbox), etc.

Best chances? You mean like what you did? If I had to do that it would probably be something like this:

1st tier: King K. Rool, Dixie Kong, Little Mac, Saki Amamiya, Mewtwo, Roy, Palutena

2nd tier: Ridley, Krystal, Zoroark, Mii, Toad/Bowser Jr, Waluigi, Krom, Isaac

3rd party tier: Megaman, Slime, Black Mage, Professor Layton

That's not a bad idea, although I would also like an Underworld stage from the original Kid Icarus.
Yeah, I know. I posted it here not so long ago.
And I agree with the "new blood" thing. After all, David Wise didn't compose everything in DKC3, but it's still a great soundtrack[not as awesome as the "omg so perfect" DKC2, though].
If you think about it, even Koji Kondo is letting other composers work with him in games like Super Mario Galaxy[which is one of the best soundtracks ever], so I guess a group of younger composers with a badass veteran leader could work nicely.
Exactly. Plus the series should be looking for a new "sound" or "sound direction" after all these years. Mario, Zelda, and Metroid have all done this successfully.
No, I can based upon the hardware alone. It is also funny how this article mentions no supporting fact or name other than a misused interpretation of the word "shader". It's like the author sat there and went to NeoGAF and pulled a few facts out of the air and decided to troll everyone. Plus this report came out right around April 1st. Really people? We have specific developers on record saying the Wii U is on par, if not better. The Darksiders II developers would not be talking about the ease of transitioning the Xbox360 version to the Wii U architecture if they were not similar, let alone being the definitive version.

I'm not saying the Wii U is going to be 5x better than the 360 or PS3, not even saying it can't be on par, but it certainly isn't going to be inferior. I think everyone got taken for a ride by an April Fool's prank.
I hope the Wii U is 5 times more powerful than the 360 or PS3. I don't doubt it, but I also don't doubt that Nintendo could pull out another weak console like the Wii.

He must have spent half the summer posting on here, if not more. I'd understand if there was a constant intake of information like Smash Bros. Dojo updates but with how little we had (and still have) back then... it would indeed be an awful book. xD

Whoa there, you didn't think about this post at all. I'm not talking about games buddy, I am talking about the consoles. The consoles themselves don't really try to innovate, except for Nintendo. That is an obvious objective fact. Really what Xboxes and Playstations do primarily is try to get more powerful.

I would be absolutely shocked if Mega Man does not get in Smash 4, but then again, Sonic seemed like a no brainer to us, but was one of the last two characters added to Brawl.

I was talking about the consoles hard drive, memory capabilities, graphic capabilities, and overall power. And yes, the PS3 and Xbox 360 had innovative technology. They were the 1st consoles to have that powerful of system, huge hard drives, incredible processors really great DLC, excellent online (lol at the Wii's online) on a console outside of Japan, 1080i/1080p graphics. Oh, and they also had all those great games I listed.

Also, "power" is what made Nintendo great. The NES was one of the most advanced systems of it's time. The Super Nintendo was the most advanced system of the 4th generation of gaming by far. Really, power = revolution. Nintendo's Power (lol pun) for the Wii generation was basically just the motion controls and a few handful of 1st/2nd party games and maybe half a dozen "classic" 3rd party games (that aren't independent DLC-only games).
I would be absolutely shocked if Mega Man does not get in Smash 4, but then again, Sonic seemed like a no brainer to us, but was one of the last two characters added to Brawl.
I think we all would be shocked. Capcom has begged for him to be in the next smash for YEARS!!!

We will see whatever came of Capcom USA's pushing of their Japanese branch. Of course I am still riding the Dragon Quest locomotive I've been driving since last year.

Correction, Inafune was the only one who has ever directly stated his opinion on the idea.

Capcom has given all indications they want Mega Man to be in the next smash bros game.

Heck, Bara Man even references smash bros. in Street Fighter X Tekken.

Capcom has also said they would like to have a "Capcom vs. Nintendo" crossover fighting game.

No, you listed a bunch of games. xD But yes, as you say, all they do is add on power. This does indeed add more to their potential, but that doesn't change the fact that making them more like computers is really all their trying to do.

With the Wii U at least having HD, I can't see why I'd really bother to care for much more right now. There's a chance it will be expensive without all of the power anyhow.

I am pretty sure Ono has said Mega Man would be his pick for a Capcom character in Smash Bros., while M. Bison (dictator) would be his pick for a Street Fighter character.

I second the Mega Man notion, he would fit oh so well with the rest, and the moveset would be far easier to make than even Snake and Sonic.

Though, I can't help but want Geno a tad bit more..

Both please. If any third party characters are added, I really think it'd be from either Capcom or Square. There are other notable ones but they don't stick out to me as much in terms of relation or potential.

I know he has I was meaning more in the realm of executives who had the power to make it happen.

The only characters I'd give a chance to apart from Megaman and a SquareEnix property would be Layton. Out of all of the Nintendo franchises in Nintendo's video game history exhibit in the Nintendo World Store, Professor Layton is somehow in there next to MOTHER and Fire Emblem. Not sure why, but it is, and no other third party series is.

I do expect both back due to Sonic being still popular as hell, and Kojima and Sakurai still being friends. Of course, that's if Sakurai sticks with 3rd Parties.

I think the Capcom choices are honestly between Bison and MegaMan to start with. But it's pretty clear that one of the Directors would like MegaMan in as is.

Castlevania fits in real well too and has a very long history with Nintendo consoles, though a Castlevania character basically has a dismal chance of being chosen.

As for why Layton was featured in that exhibit alongside other Nintendo properties, I am guessing its because the Layton titles were published by Nintendo of America, and the Nintendo World Store is in New York.

Is it sad I don't really know what a Professor Layton other than what one looks like?

Mega Man in my opinion IS a Nintendo character. By that I mean Classic Mega Man, of course.

All the great classic Mega Man games debuted on the NES/Famicom (basically Mega Man 1-3).

Also, Simon Belmont would be excellent in Smash Bros. That series/character also fits perfectly with Nintendo. Plus Simon Belmont is an awesome character... and has a whip!!!

It is too bad for some reason Castlevania isn't that popular (there are some classic Castlevania games on the DS) and that Simon Belmont isn't that requested.

Simon Belmont had a decent-sized fan base pre-Brawl. I was somewhat involved with it, because the group, Castlevania, and Slimon Belmont are all SUPER AWESOME!!!

Fixed it for ya. ;)

I agree with you on everything else though.

Not really, it has really only been in the past year that I've learned about Professor Layton. I like a few of his songs such as this, this and this.

Yeah, but Castlevania has kind of diminished as a franchise. Though I guess the same could be said of Megaman, but the difference is he has the most requests out of any third party series.

I'm not sure about Castlevania, I'll let Toise handle that. Megaman isn't dead, he still has a game in development (Rockman Online) and has been selling well with all of the new merchandice (Ex. Manga, new comic book series) within the past year.

Not that relvancy matters anyway...

Mega Man 4 was a good game (not a classic like 1-3), Mega Man 5 was basically a copy and paste of Mega Man 1-4 (although I loved the final boss and parts of the final level), and Mega Man 6, while far from super unique, was fun and had a few new cool tidbits and weapons. Plus it had some awesome Robot Masters.

Mega Man 7... started off with an epic opening level with epic music, 4 cool Robot Masters with pretty cool levels, then had 4 lame Robot Masters and a lackluster ending... minus Bass. He was a fun fight. Also, the game play and game speed sucked in that game. Mega Man 7 was like the classic Mega Man series' Brawl basically!

Also, Castlevania had a game come out just last November (which is now half a year old), and Mega Man is always relevant. Every gamer knows what Mega Man looks like!

You have not appeased the die-hard MM fan here. 5-7 were all equally as good as the first 4.
Although, not die hard enough to give a **** about Legends 3.

MegaMan is a Capcom game, whether you like it or not.

It's not an actual Nintendo game, although some are Nintendo-specific characters. Like MegaMan.EXE is Nintendo only.

It just means he's more Nintendo-oriented, but not a Nintendo character.

That's like calling Brian(Quest 64) a Nintendo character. He's NOT. He's THQ/Imagineer specific. ...Although if I go to college... I could go into video gaming and buy the series. Hell, I'd slowly save up money to finish the game myself if I have to.

Legends 1 was a good game; Legends 2 was great. And meah, I'm talking about in my opinion, not fact. 7 was just too slow IMO. The last 4 bosses were also stupid IMO.

IMO Mega Man 4 felt like it had a bit of "fresh" left in it, and it brought some new ideas to the series.
Mega Man 5 was basically a collection of elements from the previous 4 games. Again, I thought the Robot Masters and levels were becoming the "same old, same old."
Mega Man 6, while I like it (oddly not many people like it), it wasn't up to the quality of the first 4, or at least the first 3. It had a lot of stuff that kept me engaged in it.

Personally I think 2 > 1 > 3 > 9 > 8 > 10 > Mega Man and Bass > 4 > 6 > 7 > 5. Of course, this isn't a debate, but us expressing our opinions on Mega Man and Mega Man games! By the way, Mega Man for Smash or BUST!!! He's my #1 most wanted character, even above the GREAT RIDLEY!!!

Regardless, I see classic Mega Man as a Nintendo character. When I think about him, I think of the NES. He also was easily the most popular Nintendo 3rd party character ever. I'm not saying he's a 1st/2nd party Nintendo character, but rather I consider him a "Nintendo character." That is because of his history with Nintendo and because he just fits in so well with Nintendo.

Plus I cannot imagine Nintendo or the NES without Mega Man. It's just painful to think of. There's no other 3rd party character that comes anywhere as close to Nintendo as Mega Man is. That's not a fact, but it's pretty hard to disprove. Basically, don't take me calling Mega Man a "Nintendo character" literally!
