Let the celebration begin!!! No more lag!!! No more server overload!! No more missed Brawl news!!!

....at least we hope this will be eventually happen. It may take some optimizing and a bit of tweaking, but we'll get it all straightened out by next week. As always, there could have been some bugs resulting from the server move. If you come across anything unusual with the forums, blog, or wiki, please report it here immediately.

I read the specs on the new server from the Announcements and it's pretty dang good. Defiantly worth the wait.

Some of you may have received database errors at first, but these should now stop. I had forgotten to set the new server's max_allowed_connections to higher than the default 100. It is now set to 2000.

Well, you know our downtime was bad when google had smashboards indexed like this:

Database Error
The smashboards.com forum technical staff have been notified of the error, though you may contact them if the problem persists. ...

That has to do with his ISP. That happened to me once on another site. ISP kept saying it wasnt them but when i said i was going to switch ISP's then they fixed it. So gid do trouble yourself on trying to fix it :p

Something happened last night around 4:30 am where the webserver could no longer access the db server. I'm going to double check all the configurations later today, but there still seem to be a few bugs to work out so please bear with me.

things aren't perfect yet but there is definitely a noticeable performance increase imo. I think with a few tweaks here and there we can have the servers running pretty flawlessly by the end of next week.

Bug: I can't enter into the server between 9:00 and 16:30 (GTM +0)

Why?
Yes, this is the second day in a row wHere an error at 4:02 PM EST has caused the db server to go down and stop working until I do a manual reboot. Fortunately on the first day I had class and was able to reboot it when I woke up at 8:00 am. Today wasd a Sat. so I slept in and didn't get to reboot until now, hence the longer downtime. I THINK this is when our daily backups are scheduled, so this could be the source of the problem. As soon as I do a reboot things are all better. I'll try to figure this out asap, but as of now it looks like is the main glitch to figure out. I'm looking into this and will get back to you guys asap.

Is this related to the problems with IE? Please PM me a description and screenshot (if applicable) of your problem.
Thanks for your patience everyone!

Please note: there will be short, random periods of downtime as I am fiddling with some server settings and must reboot every now and then. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Beautiful!

It does seem a little smoother when loading, although it is about the same now because I changed it to 50 posts a page, Im sure I would notice a difference =P

Yep, no downtime so far, except for a few minutes here and there for reboots (like you warned us about, Gideon).

I'm very happy with our new database server.

Also, I'm very happy with the vBulletin software. I think it's my favorite forum system of them all.

Some good news and bad news. The bad news is that I still haven't completely solved the problem that occurs every morning. The good news is that we've pretty much narrowed it down. It appears that a daily cron job run every morning is causing the db server to reject any mysql connection attempts from our webserver until I reboot the system.

We'll be doing a bit more trouble shooting today, so please continue to be patient with any short outages.
Thanks!

Hey there Gideon! I'm glad you finally got the new server.

I got an error just now and thought it might help with your optimising.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 16 bytes) in /home/smash/public_html/search.php on line 884

yeah, the problem is E for All is basically doubling our normal traffic, so it's hard to judge right now what needs to be fixed. Thanks for reporting the error.

Haha, wow, so much for the new server!

It took about half an hour to get to this reply page after all the "cannot find server" pages. SmashWiki is nigh impossible to work with at the moment.

All I can do is wish you luck, I guess.

Apologies for the site problems today. It turns out we had an apache log file that reached over 2 gb in size, and apache didn't like that so much :p

The log files are being rotated on a shorter time schedule now, so we shouldn't have this problem anymore.
