Absolutely brilliant.

Whoever first noticed Stafy, you deserve twelve-thousand cookies and a high-five.

It works on the level of kirby when it comes to simple characters being awesome.

I really have nothing useful to add here, but I found this character a while back when I was looking for odd characters they could add to Brawl. I just went through all of the Nintendo franchises, and I found this Japan-only character.

I actually like him a lot and would love to seem him in. I'd love to see people's reactions (which would would be a lot like the people's in this thread already): Who the HECK is THAT guy???!! He would be very interesting and unique.

I support Stafy for Brawl! (He was in my old sig, before I got upset at the anti-Falco people...)

at first i thought, "lame, what moves can a stupid star have?"

but when i read your moveset i was kind of impressed by the simplicity of it. every other porposed moveset has like, 50 lines of buildup to some ridiculous move, but Stafy's all came from games (i think) and none of them were stupid or overpowered or whatever.

you've made a believer out of me! Stafy for brawl!

I support Stafy conditionally. If the roster is larger than 40 characters, yes. Lower, no.
He is absolutely adorable. Though he looks kinda bland. But I want to play Stafy games in English, and if Brawl boosts Stafy's popularity, then maybe they'll translate the DS game into English, and even make a Wii game.

With Stafy what you see is what you get. A star with a smiling face. People want it in because looking at Stafy somehow makes them happy.

Stafy and Starfy are interchangeable.

Anyway...this guys is awesome. How great would it be to see a happy star flying around the Brawl arena tackling people. Shweet!

Check these out, too:

Those videos are pretty amazing, too. You guys should check them out, but some of them are down cuz of stupid YouTube.

same here man, stafy would be an awsueme brawl character. i just hate it when people say "oh hes just a star with eyes, he can't be in brawl" but kirby is in so the arguement is null

Except Kirby is cool.
And Stafy isn't? I think he's plenty cool, not to mention SUPAKAWAII. Really, though, I think he would be a fun character with a colorful and exciting stage to boot.

Stafy's voice is almost exactly like Pichu...are they voiced by the same actor perhaps?
Yes. According to the Japanese and English Wikipedia articles about the Densetsu no Stafy series, Stafy is voiced by the same voice actor who did Pichu, Togepi, and several other characters from other animes. Her name is Satomi Kōrogi.

Knowing somewhat about Stafy's Japanese popularity for a while now (I've kept an occasional eye on the series ever since first word came out that the original title was being worked on, before it was decided to be Japan only), Stafy's been a character on my prediction list for quite a while. He's had four dedicated games in Japan that have sold well, a manga series, and several cameos in other popular games. Here's a fun fact: the Stafy cameo in Super Princess Peach makes a lot of sense, as SPP was developed by TOSE. Stafy is also the only series for which TOSE owns the copyright to (in a co-ownership with Nintendo). Technically this makes Stafy a third party character, but I doubt that Nintendo would have any problems dealing with TOSE in bringing the character around. Anyway, even without seeing what his series hallmarks even are, I've supported him.

Then I started playing the games. I'm near the end of the second game right now, and so far it's sucked away almost all of my spare time for the past three days or so. The games themselves are pretty simplistic (and surprisingly text-heavy, it's offering me a nice review of my Japanese reading comprehension), but still a lot of fun. Playing through the games, I've learned a few things: One, there are plenty of moves for Stafy to draw from to make a suitable moveset thanks to the wide variety of vehicles and friends of his (from Stafy's own variety of spin attacks to his team-up move with Kyorosuke in the fourth game, his flying parachute, hell, he even gets to run around in a koala bear outfit and roar at stuff); Two, both the games and Stafy himself are dripping with personality. Even on the GBA he shows a great range of facial expressions and reactions (I still laugh when I see his running animation), and I think they'd translate to Brawl very well.

Overall, Stafy's the face of a very popular game franchise in Japan, now spanning more than one game system. If any of his games had seen an international release, I bet Sakurai'd have no issue with adding him. His lack of international popularity is really the only strike against him, but we've already seen that such a limitation can be worked around. Stafy and Ridley are the two characters I'm most pushing for to be in Brawl, and after playing through some of his "works," I'd say at this point that Stafy is my most wanted character...pretty big words after only seeing half of his portfolio.

If you like the first 2 games so much, your going to like the third, it's definitely the best one in the series.

Yay for Stafy support.

He's a more logical choice for a Japan only character who could be introduced to Western audiences. I know a lot of Nintendo gamers actually recognise Stafy, or import the games. It could even mean us getting the series over here as Fire Emblem did.
It'd be a good choice. Imo

Stafy was my first pick for an odd, random character. He's even better than most candidates because in addition to being popular, he had FOUR games, and he has a great possible moveset. Plus...he would just be an awesome addition due to his expressions, which just crack me up from the games. I'd love to see him in. He's in my top 5 most wanted.

If Smash Bros has a plumer, a fox with a gun, an elf with a sword, and much other crazy characters im sure a star could be playable

This is one of the best character ideas ever. Thanks for bumping again, Jopaan. If he didn't have the moveset to go along with it, I'd say..axe him. But to anyone who doubts...look at the initial post.

Better yet...

Name: Stafy
First Game Appearance: Legend of Stafy
Platform: GBA

SPECIAL MOVES:

B: Spinning Star (spins like Zelda's B-Move, Nayru's Love, but it doesn't reflect attacks. If you press B too much, Stafy will become dizzy and uncontrollable for a short amount of time. Click here and click the word "Spin" to watch him do it in action. You can also rapidly click the "Spin" button to watch him become dizzy.)

Forward+B: Shooting Star (A pretty fast move. Points his head sideways, while he spins toward the direction you move the control stick at. If the player slightly moves the control stick when doing this move, Stafy will do the Whirling Star, which is a more powerful version of the Spinning Star.)

Up+B: Kyorosuke Spin (Used in Legend of Stafy 4, Kyorosuke the clam magically appears, then Stafy clings to Kyorosuke's back end, while they spin rapidly and diagonaly upward.)

Down+B: Falling Star (Click here for a YTMND webpage showing this attack of his while it plays the song for the first Stafy title)

Extreme Attack: Star Coin (If heads, then every opponent gets 100% of damage. If tails, then Stafy gets 100% of damage.)

Taunt:

Entrance: Falls from the sky. Sound's stupid? I doubt it, because at the beginning of every Stafy title, he falls from his home.

Victory Themes - First one from Stafy 1, second one from Stafy 2, and third one from Stafy 3. Sorry, I couldn't find any DS sound files from Stafy 4.

Here are three commercial ads and two music videos:
