Yes, the title’s right. We’ve had returning characters from Melee, we’ve had profiles of characters from the trailers, now we’ve been shown a brand new character for Brawl, from an already existing franchise. If you want to keep it a secret, read no futher.

Ike is the son of Commander Greil of the Greil Mercenaries. The storyline begins with Ike’s last day as a trainee in his father’s mercenary company, and follows him as he grows in power to lead a military force for the purpose of restoring an entire nation.

Ike was the main character in the Gamecube Fire Emblem game, Path of Radiance, and is our new Smasher. He wields a 2 handed sword, often with just 1 hand, which hints he’s going to be one hard hitter.

The only other thing we know about him in Brawl is that one of his attacks is called Aether, which I believe is one of his attacks in Path of Radiance. Also Sakurai offers this tip; “Try for a single-stroke finishing blow with his mighty blade!”

They probably would keep Marth and kill Roy. Would this mean Ike would be starting character I hope so. Im assuming they’ll release a new character every few weeks or so. Now gives us Ridley and King Dedede.

whats so wrong with roy? he was a bit slow but he was one of my most played guys. hey what if they put in the black knight? that would be cool. he could have slow but really powerful sword swipes, like 6% per swipe but 1 swipe per second (thats really slow) i think they should keep both marth and roy and make roy have lots of medium range fire magic like zeldas dins fire mixed with luigis fire ball so it goes strait (damaging whoever it touches) and then explodes. it could be like, a fire bolt and it could go really fast out of the tip of roys sword. marth could be the same and ike could be a mix of the 2.

Well, there’s one of the most desired characters return, one of the top 5 I’d say. Only Sonic, Diddy Kong, King Dedede, Lucario, and Ridley to go. We’re getting there. This character addition, was truely awsome.

First of all, I am stunned they’d reveal a new character this early. Do you think he’s part of the main lineup - as in non-secret characters?

Secondly, I predict that Ike’s in, Marth AND Roy are out. Just a hunch.

Marth isn’t going anywhere, his roll in the series is bigger, and in Melee he was the most desired character in Japan, and since when has Nintendo screwed over Japan real bad=??? Roy could go either way, but outside of Ike no one in the series is anywhere near as important as Roy.

Disagreeing isn’t logical, no one has been the star of two FE games the whole game. Everyone else was the star part of a game, or a full game, except Ike, who was the main character for PoR, and is the main character for 1/3rd of GoD. If Nintendo gives Marth the boot, then many Japanese gamers will be upset with Nintendo, as well as worldwide. It’s bad bussiness, so it’s near impossible to see that as a any bit logical or viable option.

LOL at post above, you’ve obviously never played some of the earlier Kirby games. You could literally take his moves from his games, and put them in smash 1, 2, 3 easy. All the moves he needs he has, plus enough for another whole moveset almost. Making a King Dedede moveset is easy, just check out the Kirby for Brawl thread, there are tons of movesets. And btw, King Dedede [along with Diddy Kong, Ridley, and Lucario] are as good as in, so you might as well get used to that fact, even if you don’t like it. Just a heads up [nothing personal].

I was hoping for Peach but when i saw Ike it more than made up for it. it was obvious he was going to be in. i remember reading that sakurai didnt want any Japan only characters. Ike is the american version per se of Marth and Roy, the game he was in was international. honestly if Roy gets the boot get rid of Marth also. It wouldnt seem right for both of them to be in melee and then cut one out for brawl. no matter what game Marth was in.

Man this update was so awesome! Ike is so cool, I hope they dont get rid of marth and roy but if someone has to go i hope is Roy.. or maybe let him be in the game with new atacks.. no clones this time!
Ridley would be so cool! I hope he is in the game!
Lucario would be cool to.. expect at least 1 new pokemon in the game.. my guess is lucario or mewoth… About kingdede i dont really know… it would be great but i dont really think he’s in the game… hope so! =/ Diddy kong was a top request since the beggining so c’mon bring him too!

I had a feeling today’s update would be too awesome. Normally, in my time zone, the updates arrive shortly after three in the am, but this update still wasn’t here when I went to bed at four. Glad to see Ike has finally been confirmed so everyone can stop worrying about him, although now people will just argue about who he is replacing *sigh* because he OBVIOUSLY HAS to REPLACE someone, he can’t just be an addition.

Anyway, question: Ike and the Black Knight trained with the same trainer. From what I hear, the Black Knight is slow but powerful. In KirbyKid’s video (thankies much) the Black Knight uses a sword just like Ike. So, wouldn’t these similarities make Ike and the BK clonish? Would it be better to choose a different FE character over the BK?

Also, I think it’s fine if we ditch Marth and Roy in favor of two new FE characters. Out with the old and in with the new.

I doubt we’ll see a return of Roy, myself, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Marth back. I just hope that if both Ike and Marth are in it, that they don’t make them to simalar. Maybe Aether is his Final Smash? An offhand guess: target one oppenent for an instant K.O., while at the same time reducing your health meter back to zero.

I’m glad to see the new charactor, belive me, this post was AWESOME. But when are we getting Snake’s profile? C’mon already, we’re moving on to new charactors and such lately, but Snake is a known charactor sooo…what’s the hold up?

Also, i’m not too familar with Fire Emblem, is it pronounced like the English name “Ike” rhyming with “hike”, or is it pronounced using Japanese romanji as in “ee-kay”?

i think his name is pronounced rhyming with hike. any other way would sound kind weird to me. Diddy i think is a shoe in. marth and Ike look similar to me with the hair and everyhting and i cant picture both of them fighting side by side in brawl at all. I dont see what the big deal is with Marth anyway.

in brawl I suspect that there might be a option to use costumes. Im not talking about the ones in melee but costumes that let you ues a variation of a character without it being seen as a clone (so mario could have his dr persona and a few others, and ike could have the option to not only look like but play like marth and roy.)
