Need Help with Zelda on Zelda

So my roomie and I are progressively going through characters and playing... well I play as his main against various characters and he plays mine. He gets to see how I would use Luigi against MK or whatever and I think this is really helping both of us. Then we decided to do mirror matches and Luigi vs Luigi is fine... but Zelda vs Zelda is the hardest thing I have ever done. I've never really played another Zelda... and I could not get her to approach me. I mean it's not possible... and it just really... I dunno... I just didn't know what to do. I can't use a dair approach or anything because of Zelda's usmash. I mean... it's like a game of spacing and who lands a hit. I won half the matches but it was just like... what if I went to a tourney and played a Zelda... man would I have been caught off guard. I never feel like this against any other characters because I have some viable approaches and I have a reflector. I mean if I know my opponent is Zelda I could gladly pick Ike or falco (my secondaries) but how can I do better if I'm Zelda. Any suggestions? Note: lets assume I don't want to transform to sheik at all... how should I play this?

A Zelda cannot approach another Zelda D:
Seriously, it's a battle between who makes a laggy move first and gets punished :O

So your friend DOESN'T main Zelda? If that's the case, then there's a lot more you'll need to work on with your Zelda against all characters. If you don't know what another Zelda is capable of then you don't know what you're capable of.

Mirror matches are always simple and difficult at the same time though. It's easy because you know what the opponent can and can't do but hard because they know the same about you (that wouldn't be the case though with someone who isn't an actual Zelda main). There's not really any more strategy that you can come up with that they couldn't mirror. The best tip is to just play a better Zelda overall.

My roomie is just as capable as I am so when it came to dodging and dsmashes, dtilts, whatever it was like a tradeoff. I had a large advantage on him when it came to using FW. He had little to no control over and made some bad teleports. I also learned a lot when it comes to NL vs myself.

Yeah my roomie mains Luigi and he's a far more aggressive player than I. Luigi fits his playing style perfectly... especially on small stages. I'm really the only one of my roomies that plays random often so I know all the characters decently... they both never play Zelda though and I don't get out much. Don't get me wrong I have a pretty decent Zelda... that match just threw me out of my element because I'm so used to... if I play patiently enough eventually they will have to approach or I can approach them. In this matchup I could do neither. So just play better is the only thing I can do... well that's good to know. I'll keep improving :)

Also, lawl at the thread title. I feel like a 12 year old girl for giggling at that.
I read the title again after reading your post and lol'd also XD

anyways
It'll be a hard fight depending how good the opnnent is with Zelda. I've heard Zelda dittos are the worst dittos. But then again I heard that from a Zelda hater sooo idk if it's true T.T

Yeah it seems a little unusual to be fighting yourself.

The good thing is you know all her moves already. Treat her like a slower marth:

Stay just outside her range. Close but not TOO close.
Wait for a lagspot and then move it.
Learn to avoid Din/predict Din.
Learn to be really aggressive off stage.

this, zelda on zelda action is awesome lol

when playing zelda dittos you just have to powershield everything, if you can do that you can punish everything and you'll win super easy

Best advice: Learn how to lightning kick out of shield. Zelda is an easy target for these, ironically. She's tall and light and most of her moves are a bit laggy on the end, like Nayru's, up tilt, and her smashes.

I'm currently having issues with my router finding my wii and even then the couple of online matches I have had have been laggy as f*** so I'm not sure how much that would help. Not to mention you're amazing at Zelda and thinking of playing you scares me/raises my anxiety level lol.

This was also really helpful. I don't spam lightning kicks a lot but I see how Zelda is a good target for them.

Well if it's connecting then I doubt there are any major problems.

Is your internet connections generally slow, or is it just the Wii?

If it's the internet, well, lol good luck.
If it's just the wii, try changing your channel on the router page to 1 or 11.

If it stays connected but it's just slow, check to see if any other computers in your house are running high-bandwidth programs like P2P, videostreaming, etc...

It could also be the location. Are the router and Wii in sight of eachother? Any metal objects interupting the signal? Perhaps there is a cordless phone, mobile or other WiFi device causing interference.

Thanks for all the info about the Wii. I'll see if I can get it up and running eventually. My roomies are really bummed cuz they really wanted to see DM wipe the floor with me... one day :). Also thanks for all the posts in this thread. They helped. I did some more ditto matches today with Zelda and did infinitely better.
