So I recently purchased a new web server for my various projects at www.nealpro.com. I moved tio and tia to this server, so all tournaments will in the future be posted there. The old site will stay for now, but all tournament results will redirect to nealpro.com.

What the new server allows me to do is unveil something I've been working on a very long time: the new tia tournament archive.

tia has been upgraded from a simple tournament archive to a full-fledged social networking site like Facebook and MySpace. Most of the features you love about those sites -- friend lists, private and public messages, common interest groups, etc. -- have been merged with tia's core feature set to create a unique web experience. New features like medals (given to the top 4 finishers of an event), an improved rivals list, accomplishment badges, the ability to tag yourself as having attended a tournament make updating and comparing your tournament successes a million times easier than before. Tournament directors can create pages for their events and upload results themselves without having to bug me :).

You can see a few examples here (my profile), here (UCLA 2 results), and here (tournament hosts group).

In other words, it's pretty amazing.

You can join tia by reading the instructions on this page. About a dozen people are already using the site -- beta testers I've been using for a couple months -- but the rest of you need to join the fun! IF YOU'RE REGISTERING, you might need to try two or three times to get the security images right. There might be a bug on the first attempt.

Some notes:
* Some people already have pictures and friends without having signed up (HugS, Aesis, Ken). I was using your profiles for testing. You should feel honored.
* Some parts of the site might not be working... some things didn't get 100% transferred to the new server. Please leave a note here if you find anything is broken, especially if you get "Could not find stored procedure 'blah'" errors.
* Some features don't work 100% as advertised, but they will soon.
* I'm not putting this in Tourney Discussion because I'd like a smallish userbase for now. You can tell your friends all you want, but I'd like to keep discussion in this topic rather than scattered all around.
* If one of your tournaments is already in tia, I can transfer control of that tournament to you so you can update it, note who helped host it, verify people who say they attended, etc. Just PM me here or on tia and I'll take care of it.

Have fun :).

BIG UPDATE 08/11: I've added small "game profile" packages to tia that can be installed to any user's profile. These packages contain customizable information about a pre-selected game (only 2 so far) and will show up on the bottom part of your profile. Games installed so far include:
  • Mario Strikers Charged: display your Friend Code and the team you use most often.
  • Pokemon Diamond/Pearl: put up your Friend Code, Trainer Name, and the six Pokemon you use. You'll get a custom trainer card right on your profile!
I'll be adding more games as I see fit in the future (suggestions welcome). I think this is a fun way to integrate more games into tia, especially "smaller" games that don't have a developed tournament scene that would otherwise use the archive.

Groovy.

EDIT: you can install & edit your games by going to the ME menu and selecting My Games.

Oh, and excuse the "service unavailable" messages, or anything having to do with "could not load such a file because it is in use by another process." That means I'm uploading changes and resetting the server. Takes about 30 seconds.

NES needs to clear his PM inbox and/or turn on PMs so I can send him his pw. Or just hit me up on aim.

question

do you watch the office?

edit: yes that was directed to you. i was asking because in that show there is a character who always explicitly states the word "question" before he asks a question.

and yes i think you should watch the office. everyone should

I think the office is better than the current scrubs. The older ones than they play on comedy central are **** funny but I think the past few weeks on scrubs has been less than maximum funny.

Also I signed up for this and am waiting for a confirmation. This thing looks really cool.

Hey neal, if I said that Tio and Tia suck, will I get a warning?

Remember, this is PURELY hypothetical, and no accusations have been made

I totally agree with you. I think the producers are running out of ideas, so all the recent episodes of Scrubs seem like they are leading toward the end of the series...:(

I like the old school Office more than the recent Office too...it was a bit more funny before Dunder Mifflin (?) merged with the other company and Jim went all serious with his feelings toward Pam o.o;

Either way, Neal > Scrubs (overall) > Office (overall) :)

There is no way that Scrubs>Office.

Why? Becuase I have never watched an episode of the Office (British or American) and not laughed out loud atleast once. The same cannot be said about scrubs.

The office is easily the most consistent show on TV.

Lots of updates for upcoming tournaments:

* Directors can add venue information (address, notes, even a MapQuest/Yahoo/Google Maps link) to their tournament page. This information will show until the tournament is uploaded. You can also add tournament rules.

* Players can say "I'm attending this tournament" by visiting the tournament's page. You will show up on the site under the "planning to attend" section.

* Profile pages will show the "next tournament" for a player if he is planning to attend one in the future.

* Your Home will show random upcoming tournaments in your state.

Groovy.

At OC3, I entered doubles as 'Durgan' but singles as 'DRGN'. There is some way to link those names am I correct? So that "Durgan" will also lead to my profile (which is registered as "DRGN")?

Also, is it possible to recover or reset my password if I've forgotten it or can't find where I wrote it down?? (I can't get iinnnn! ...Which is why I've picked up and dropped the Pacific West Ball twice in a row now, lol.. :dizzy::chuckle:)

I'll get you your pw this weekend, DRGN. Once you have it, you can link Durgan to your account manually.

I would like to point out that all of the people I have seen who are having trouble with tio are causing their problems through lack of knowledge. Ex: Arash spent six hours re-creating pools at OC3 because he didn't know it auto-saved, and Park in Modesto runs his tournaments on paper because he didn't know you can move players in losers bracket. Also OC3 organizers blamed seeding problems on tio, quote "because tio seeds randomly" - but I wonder if they knew about how to properly combine manual/location/skill seeding.

Besides tutorials, it would be very useful if there was SOMETHING which reminded people of tio's features. Sadly, ignorance is giving tio a bad rep.

Solve that problem and you'll be a very rich man. There's a very comprehensive manual, tips of the day, and several in-depth tutorials explaining just about everything in the program. It's up to the tournament director to use those resources to make sure he/she knows enough about the program to run a successful tournament.

I mean, what else can ya do, ya know?
