Those guys don't know what international means. Ally is the best player in Canada. Thats more international than Apex, cuz they didn't send 9B.

Yeah we discussed this on DI on Episode 24, so I don't want to be personally redundant, as you can listen to my thoughts on this there...so yeah I agree.

Yo esam is right. Shutup whoever is writing those long posts and trying to explain things. You guys know what he is trying to say geesh. There is no need for a debate.

Bottom is we should have around 2-3 real national events. This means at least like 200-300+ in attendance. This hasn't been happening cuz tourneys have been milking from each other.

So how do we fix this. Maybe the brawl TO's should get together and decide what should be what and when they should happen. Do you realize that if we create true nationals then sponsors will be interested and so on. The community will stay alive and grow. This needs to happen to for nationals to be true nationals. If a change wasn't needed then genesis 2 would be having way more hype right now.

I agree, except there should be a different national than Apex that we build up toward unless it adopts the ruleset that will allow it to get stickied.
Apex will be getting Stickied I do not know where you think it will not be. JV has already told me it will be stickied.

I understand what you are saying, but the problem is that most of those "Big Regionals" are supposed to be Nationals, but because of the frequency of these "Big Regionals" the nationals never happen.

That is not the problem IMO. The main issue is that many TOs do not focus upon the experience of the players and rather on things that are not as important. If you want more people to come you have to talk to others about attending rather than assume people will come. It is what I do and my tournaments often have the highest attendance in my region.

We should actually, as a community, decide to hold major nationals. Have some sort of proper ranking system and the like, and have an annual/semiannual national somewhere easily accessible for the largest number of regions. Not just American regions, mind you. Canada is stepping it up lately, we're working to get good enough to take your money. But with so many "nationals", it's hard to attend them for us in Canada.
That is what I am doing for Apex.

This isnt a hard problem to solve, the TO's for nationals just need to start communicating more and stop overlapping their events. It's entirely on the TOs to step it up though and not be so selfish.

Speaking of selfish, it's BS that DBR can plan an event a year in advance, then 5 months before Chibo steals attendance just because he decides he wants to host his own national.
These things happen. I had actually talked to DBR members so that I can avoid putting the date near them for Apex. It is a matter of miscommunication that TOs should have learned by now.

These Nationals need to feel like WRESTLEMANIA

special when it arises and anticipated for months xD

Thats what I do for Apex and Genesis does as well.

I just wish TOs would communicate more about this. And maybe agree to a range of blackout dates after talking about their national with others.
We do its just that some TOs are really not able to check every date. Sometimes things happen.

Melee needs more nationals, not Brawl.

True talk
<3 I got you bro.

Organize those "big regionals" into something like the evo circuit :\
THATS APEX and the Road to Apex in a nutshell XD

The rule applies to all tournaments.

There is no restriction or clarification on what it applies to size wise, so all tournaments have to follow that rule.

The only thing that talks about internationally is the last paragraph.

These Tournament Directors alone will host roughly 60 tournaments in 2011 under the same ruleset, including every national tournament for the year. With these tournaments as a base, in addition to the sticky incentives from Smashboards GM JV, and the coverage incentive from AllisBrawl Co-Founder Neal, this will be the best shot at getting every tournament to run using the same rules. Never before have so many successful and established members of the community come to work together to see a dream realized. Brawl will soon reach its 3 year anniversary, and when that time comes hopefully most tournament will be using the same rules.

*Notes*: This will initially be a US effort and as such sticky and coverage policies will only apply to US tournaments. However, this does not mean we do not have our sights set on a more global scale. We felt the differences in various international communities, along with the challenge of getting representation into the BBRC from those areas, was too much for this first push. We do want to be able to add international support into the fold in the future, uniting globally across the entire Smash Smash Bros. Brawl community. To this end, having the support of tournament directors and players everywhere is going to help turn this dream into a reality.

It's time to take our community to the next level together.
Your hosting an international event, but your still hosting it in the US, it's still a US tournament and therefore should not be stickied.

The international part is applying to unifying tournaments in other countries.

If JV gives the ok, then alright it's fine for you to do it. He runs the site so what he says goes.

But I still don't like making exceptions to policy when I felt like the unifying of rulsets had a very good reason for going to do such, which is why I am questioning this.

Why would anyone care about that? It's an executive decision. Questioning of it basically comes off as a massive tool move.

And if it DOES go through and APEX doesn't get a sticky, you just caused a very reliable TO who is running a huge (inter)national tournament to lose advertising simply because the BBR wants to strong-arm its own thoughts on a community who really just doesn't give a **** what it thinks. That's not a good move for anyone that wants to lead a community that ALREADY ignores or questions every single thing they say.

Not to mention, the last thing I expect from the people who consist of the "BBR's Ruleset Committee"(lol) is to come to a worthwhile unanimous decision on just about anything.

Anyways, back on topic. Personally, I don't think its that we need fewer "nationals", we just need regionals to not act like they're bigger than they actually are.

its best not to get into details about tournaments that are 9 months away with advertising that won't start soon
everything is still a grey area, who knows what can change from now till then

Making exceptions to policy creates an annoying domino effect where you starting having to question future decisions on that policy, when the issue comes up again, if it does. That policy was approved and considered a forum rule, which the staff should or rather must uphold. If I did cause that to happen to Alex, well sorry but it is a rule.

You either review each thing case by case, which is long and tedious, or you make a clear rule which outlines what is approved for it or not. A rule is in place, even if the owner gives an except, doesn't mean I can't ask why they made such a decision.

Still if JV says so, he gets it. So I'll stop there.

Well I got something promised to me and it would be insane if the biggest tournament in smash history is not promoted...then again it would not be the first time this has happened.

bottom line from what I was told exceptions were made for me due to the event being for the entire world and was told to get 100% coverage and possible sponsorship from AIB ( it is I just gotta work out details. )

Locals every month or twice a month, Big Regionals every 2-3 months and Nationals/Internationals every 4-6 months. Simple as that.

People CAN'T go to every National/Internatioal there is. Some people will never go to Apex, CoT5, Whobo, Pound, and the like. Genesis and CoT5 are around the same time and that's GOOD. Only people who can afford it should go such a long distance to go to a tournament that isn't really that much different from any other National. People should host some Nationals in completely different areas at around the same time, so players who are WC can go to a WC National and Players who are EC can go to an EC national. Although can't really be considered a National like that lol, but it'd be simpler. Besides you don't need people from every state to come to make it a National. You just need a big enough prize, Enough well-known players to come and about 200+ players in general.

u make a good point but don't exaggerate a main valid point. Of course not ever state, but at a national u do want the majority of the nation represented. That's the whole points. So for example, if genesis 2 had 200+ smashers all from Cali, it would not be a true national. See my point. It's not all about attendance and that is the point of the thread. Make the nationals less often so people can save up and plan accordingly to make it to an event where smashers from all over the nation meet. MLG could be considered a true national. It was awesome how we met and played smashers from all over.

Well I wasn't nessecarily implying that for every national you should have a second one or more that will make it easier for people far away to choose a closer one. Just when you run into a situation where you need to do that. Too many Nationals in a short period of time as Esam said, will barely get enough people to hype it. You should have them every 4-6 months a year and only certain Nationals should be held around the same time(roughly 1 or 2 months apart.). Mainly because 3 Nationals a year won't allow everyone who wants to host one to do so. I don't even know how you could cut about 5-6 Nationals out to do just 3. MLG and Apex seem like the biggest(not sure, because I haven't been to either.), but if you only host 3 nationals, they'll be first 2 probably and then a not as big national would be the 3rd.

Don't know how cutting it down to 3 would work. :/ Even 2 for that matter as Esam said.

Why does anyone care if APEX gets stickied? The thread is going to be so active for MONTHS before and WEEKS after the tournament happens and will never even leave the front page. Stickying will only save unsubscribed users like 5 seconds finding it.

Possibly 5-6 Nationals a year. Where some Regionals are held around the same time, so people who don't have enough money, can't go, or just don't think they'd stand a chance, could go to those instead. People who wanna go can also get some practice in before the big event.

Pretty much this. If your tournament is big enough (APEX, Genesis), you pretty much don't need a sticky because it makes literally no difference, lol.
