Alright, it seems to me that a lot of people from Montreal may be interested in going to California for the July10-12th Melee+Brawl tournament GENESIS: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=211141

I'm not going to start planning right away but if you are actually interested in going to this, I suggest obtaining yourself a passport before March. Give yourself a month of time to get it because it takes awhile, and expect delays. Here are the steps to getting it: http://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/media/nr/2006/nr20061124-2-eng.aspx

Please note that it'll cost you $87 to get one (unless you're kr3wman).

Let's try to get our tickets planned out in late March-April. That way, we will get some nice air fares. Anyone who has travelled by plane knows that rates are known to increase by the week, by the day, and sometimes by the hour. Doing this early will save us A LOT of headaches.

If you want to go to this, start looking for a job. Now. Be prepared to spend upwards of $500-$700 for this (although in reality we're going to try to lower that as much as possible).

EDIT: Just for emphasis, I did a quick search for flights from Montreal to San Francisco (Antioch has no airport and San Fran looks pretty close...) on Expedia and this is what I got:

United: $476
Air Canada: $497
American Airlines: $514
Continental: $531

Deals will appear every now and then so we'll have to see what the best options are.

EDIT2: On another site...

Air Canada: $388
American Airlines: $403
United: $403

Joel, if you can get us reasonable rates, i might be interested. Taking an airplane trip with friends is something i have always wanted to do.

And how come none of you have your passports already? Bunch of non-immigrant, white trash scum.

QFT
Immigrants ftw

EDIT:I think if we have a big number of people going to this we might get some really good deals

A couple more things:

Ohana

"C"let has also pointed out another large Summer 2009 tournament happening in Boston: Ohana. http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=178903

This one, we at least have the luxury of driving and/or bussing, so keep this one in mind as well.

Gamers' World

Gamers' World has a couple events in mind:

  • A 16-man tournament
  • A large event focused on Magic, D&D, Warhammer and all the other cool stuff they do, and Smash. They have a venue planned out and while the Smash tournament will probably be regarded as a side event as far as they're concerned, we get a venue and a tournament out of it so it's fair game.

FFYF 2

I haven't talked with Denis about this yet, but we both agreed that we might have some time to plan another tournament, so during my holidays in January I'll look into plans for the second installment of Fight For Your Friends. It'll take place either late February or early March (hopefully not infringing on anyone's Spring Break plans).

We'll try looking for a cheaper venue to maximize the prize pool. No word with Gamers' World being involved as of yet.

EDIT: And feel free to chip in about what you expect from FFYF 2! We made the first one great, lets make the next one greater. If you feel like contributing, feel free to do so.

I went to California with friends in an old beat up van, it takes about 4 days to get there!
You guys should turn this into a road trip, it's even more epic. <3

Well, we did stop for sleeping 2 or three times, and the van demanded some repairs on the way >_>

joel, if that's the case, take notes from niagara if it goes well, maybe we could have melee and brawl, and even advertize for magic players in other cities so that they can have something to check and trade and be geeky ****s just like us.

Hmm... I haven't touched the Cube controller since "C"let's last fest. What was that, like a month ago?

I think it's time to get back into it. Maybe try and, like, improve. I hear playing against others is a pretty important learning tool.

SO, I'll go to the next weekly. But ALSO, I think I'll hit up the Melee again and see what Jarc's fest is all about tomorrow? If there's still room?

I was at Fizzi's an hour ago and he just told me to get to sauve and call you when I got there and so I did, but you didn't answer :[. I then called chet and he told me he doubted he'd be able to go because he had to get to zaf's at like 11pm as they're leaving early tomorrow. So I headed back home... Guess I'll be missing out xD.

Well, I guess I'll just post it here and get ready for the flames:

I'm extremely sorry guys, but my dad REALLY thinks its not a good idea to go through the storms in Friday and Sunday.

I'd hate to put my dad through this, but we really hate to disappoint all of you guys too.

The storm just happens to hit southern Ontario. Also doesn't look like it'll be clearing up later in the day either, which is when we're leaving.

My vote right now is not going because I'd hate to force my dad into this. But if you guys REALLY want to go, he's still willing to try bringing you guys.

Well, my dad just told me right now that tonight will be doable. The biggest problem his has is the storm on Sunday, which he said will be impossible to go through. We're probably going to have to stay there another day of that happens.

Nice, glad to hear that, but really, if he doesn't want to do it he doesn't have to. Life is more important than a tournament of smash...Anyway, I'll be back by 4-5 pm so give us full info for tonight later =)
