Yeah I'm a SA/CB guy. My friend uses hammer and his 0 issue...probably because he can stop the inevitable super saiyan mode from happening as soon
I use pretty much everything, with IG and Bow being my mains. Bow is great for Zin, and IG is almost laughably easy on him. You get the speed of DB, reach of LS, Kinsect buffs, and mounts. It's ridiculous. That said, do love SA. Run in, draw attack, get a couple swings and roll the heck outta dodge, then unload sword mode when he's rolled over. So much fun.

I just use great sword and wail on him until he goes crying to his mother.

I haven't had any problems with any monsters just yet, though. I died once to the zinogre because he pinned me in a corner. However, I just got my quest for the Daimyo Hermitaur so we'll see how that goes. I loaded up on like 7-8 quests before that though so it'll be a bit before I take it on.

I will look into all of those! Thank you, friends. I have heard that critical draw is amazing for great sword users.

Also, I think I've decided that this installment is easier than previous games. I have 0 trouble with new monsters. I think I've been carted once. Though maybe that's because I haven't hit high rank, yet? I'm expecting to hit a wall at some point.
When using Crit Draw, just make sure that your affinity is greater or equal to 0%. A negative affinity will reduce your chances from 100%. Using Crit Draw with a level 3 charge, guarantees monster flinching (or atleast it used to, haven't tried GS in MH4) so that is a thing to keep in mind.

Plus MH4U is definitely easier on the lower difficulty but on higher difficulty the game is definitely harder. Although the tons of options the Insect Glaive offers, has made it a favourite for me. Heck I haven't even touched the rest of my favourites (Lances, Dual Blades and Long Sword) yet.

I don't really feel that MH gets much harder in High Rank. Maybe this is due to me just starting high rank, but the hardest part was getting my first set of high rank armor. After that, everything sort of fell into place.

Seregios gives my some trouble cause he hits like a train And his attacks have weird properties and rathian/zinogre are a staple for me dying a lot but the rest has been fine for me

Well maybe that's it. I was sorta having troubles with the 10 star quests. But those are the toughest ones with Gold Rathian, Silver Rathalos, Molten Tigrex, and Savage Deviljho.

This.

My top 3 worst monsters (including variants):

Zinogre
Rathian
Barioth

My best are
Nargacuga
Brachydios
And uhhh iunno. Nerscylla isn't too bad, neither is tigrex
Zinogre and Tigrex are probably the only two that get me rustled.
The Tigrex just never stops moving and I just want to hit it. I get so salty when a tigrex is frenzied and his combos are annoying

Tigrex and Zinogre are probably my favourites.

Seregios is definitely annoying (that boat mission solo!!!) and Deviljho was always an annoyance.

I liked fighting seregios but I ****ing hate when he shows up to a party unwanted. Deviljho isn't bad when you hang out around his butt

Just killing the Deviljho ain't that tough. Getting the tail cut and face break is what annoys me the most considering those places are so tough to reach!

Seregios is fun because of its erratic movements but than that is what makes him tougher in the first place. Plus that new bleeding status effect.

I've actually never fought a Deviljho in any monster hunter game. I always get so close to the HR you need to fight it, and then I stop playing haha.

THIS TIME, I WILL NOT FAIL.

So is anyone else having trouble getting the pounders on brachy to break on low rank? It's almost as if his head hitbox has gotten bigger, I can't hardly hit the damn things.

In other news....frenzied brachydios is quite the thing

don't abuse dual blade dash mounting, i did that when fighting chameleos and literally just aligned myself in fire of its steam attack for a one-way trip to base

Just slayed the Shagaru Magala first attempt no deaths as dual blades.

Used 1 Farcaster, 6 honey, 3 mega dash potions, and 2 mega armorskins.

Wow I thought it would insanely go up in difficulty which is why I brought the ingredients to make 10 more potions and 5 more farcasters. :p

T'was an insanely fun boss though, with all of dem dual blade demon dodges. All I had to do for myself was to put on the Smash mentality and "punish it for whiffing."

Yeah...he was surprisingly easy for me too. In all the times I've fought him I haven't died once but normal magala kills me sometimes for some reason

Pretty much. If you're decent at dodging, you just won't get hit by Shagaru. Gore on the other hand, hits like a mothertrucker.

yeah I was expecting a difficulty spike for the "final boss" but it was just sad because you could literally sit underneath him and be fine.

But once gore "frenzied" and showed his feelers it was such a change in the battle it kinda messes you up.

Yea Shagaru Magala was a disappointment, too easy.

Same with the Kushala Deora (somewhat scripted) battle. The game has a problem with its storyline's final battles.

If you get Tetsucabra, you will be fine. I could manage to fight Pink Rathian with Rath also armor, but I fainted once. Honestly, that is the fight that pretty much tells you that you should get better armor. Saw someone try doing it in low rank Nercylla armor, and then he started blaming other people for why we couldn't fight it. I just left after that.

Any other good armor sets to keep eyes on later? I don't need a lot of health and defense since I'm getting the grooves on dodging and can manage my own with the defense amulet (costed like 24,000z) and even then mega armorskin.

Also as a coincidence I used low rank nerscylla armor that had 29 defense apiece. 145 apparently not good enough lol. But I stuck with it the whole low rank because of trap master, negate sleep, and really no elemental weaknesses.

Currently wielding Hurricane (DB) which is 196 damage and 220 ice.

I am pretty sure you can fight high rank Nerscyllas now, so if you liked the armor before, you can make the high rank version of it.

Should I start on something like Jaggi+ armor so I can stand a chance?

Depends on your skill level. If you are good enough, then no need for Jaggi armor, but if you notice that you are always pushing it in terms of wipes, then you may need it.

personally I just kept the low rank armor for as long as possible because some of the monsters can be predictable. So find one you can read and farm away

Man I'm not enjoying soloing the Guild Hall High rank quests. Like I'm trying to farm Tetsucabra here, one that's basically the right difficulty, then Deviljho comes in outta nowhere and forces me to wait for Tetsu to move because I can't handle big devil yet.

So I just resorted to farming on mini Tetsucabra...

Guild Hall Quests are usually meant to be taken on with a group of people, be it online or locally. Stick to Caravan for Soloing Quests. There is a quest to farm Tetsucabra in High Rank Caravan.

Basically this. Taking on guild quests is very hard alone. I haven't gotten far enough but there's g-rank in single player now? I hope that's the case for that very reason

Is there any point for getting two elements/status effects on dual blades or just stick with one? My research has gotten me mixed feelings.

Yea doing all the G-rank quests alone was a pain in MH3U. Although I find G-rank a bit harder in MH4U so far, harder to solo. Plus I don't have as much time anymore to solo through most of the game. Plus it was necessary, I had a 3DS copy of MH3U.

I think I needed another post for this:

I have a regular 3DS XL with CPP XL. Whenever I close MH4U after a LONG period of time (don't know around 4 hours+ something), it takes tons of time to get back to the home screen i.e. much more than it normally does. Does this happen to any of you guys?

Edit: Woah what happened to this thread? No new posts since 2 weeks!

Let's get back up again!

So, I want to upgrade my power and armor charms with the Deviljho talons.

I'm currently sitting on dual blades that average like 196 damage and 180 element if you take into account all of them. I have one for each element and status minus sleep. Best imo is Mortal Miasma with something like 200+ attack and poison.
Armor is the famously mentioned HR Gore mix set that is upgraded like 5-6 times.

Anyway to fight Deviljho without unstable environments for mid-HR Caravan?

More importantly, how to fight him as DB? Which element or status?

Oh man Monster Hunter X Cross.

Farming is actually pretty fun imo as a monster is easily wrecked by a team of 4.

Farming for endgame armor.

Still talisman sniping for Handicraft +7 OO

EDIT: Got exactly what I needed after a bunch of soft resets, praying to RNGesus, doing steak/mega potion quests, and juju melding.

1. Look up talisman table.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...FZ8_UJ6SPuYMU/htmlview?sle=true#gid=348441009
2. Meld talismans accordingly
3. Do steak or mega potion 1 star quest
4. Don't you dare save after the quest
5. Check the melder and pray to RNGesus for your talisman type, skill type, amount, and number of slots to be correct
6. Rejoice or Rage
7a. If rejoiced, save game before continuing
7b. Most common one. If raged and not as desired, soft reset back to step 2 by exiting game without saving and reentering.

Please don't save!

Great since now there is another Monster Hunter in the works, I have to get back to hunting. Had taken a small break since I had beaten pretty much a lot of what I wanted and was grinding for endgame armour and all the weapons possible! And get money, it is much harder to make in this game with award money splitting 4 way rather than total to all like in 3U.

Now just gotta fix up my hands before I get crackin' again (kinda the main reason I stopped in the first place). All that Monster hunting has taken its toll >.< Or it is something totally unrelated which hurts 'em. I wanna get back to hunting, not hurting ;)

Edit: Just saw the trailer and these special moves look snazzy. They will definitely make the game even faster than before. Plus the chaos! I love the fact that more monsters from 3U are coming back (saw Gigginox and Nibelsnarf) as well as being able to go to all areas from past MH games! Would be cool to visit Pokke, Yukumo, Moga and all that.
