Hmm, Pretty cool.
Yeah not a lot of mods really interact with a lot of people.
they should also tell you what you did wrong when they give you an infraction, Maybe like In the infraction notice, send the part of the rules that you broke to get said infraction.
It would be really helpful to most people

I got an infraction a little while ago from Virgilius, it said why and even gave me a quote

"Dear kingdomofthehearts_snucas,

You have received an infraction at Smash World Forums.

Reason: SPAM"

If I become a mod (LOL, prolly not gonna happen, but a man can have hopes can't he?) I want to not change, and still like talk to people and be my normal self. To me that's what separates the good mods from the bad, the more elitist ones aren't fun, and to me just because you're a mod it doesn't mean you shouldn't just act like a regular member of the community at the same time.

@KOTH: That's standard procedure for infractions, trust me, I've gotten a pretty good amount of infractions and warnings lol.

Would you mind saying why you stopped being a mod? It's cool if you don't want to, I can understand that.

Anyway, I guess this is okay. Really, mods are just like other members only with a bit more power, at least that's the way I see it. The mods around here are great though, from what I can gather they're all cool guys and deserve their position. The only way I think you can be a 'bad mod' is if you try to be a bad mod, or if you just don't deserve your position and are modding a small site due to you having the connections.

Sure sure, you just have more duties than normal members to keep the site in order, without making it a corrections facility.

I moved here, and it was much more fun, and smaller. Brawl Central got closed anyways.

I wont give any names, or rat anyone out, but this was meant for 2 or 3 moderators that I have seen that are just too strict.

Considering my infraction record, and the general ******* of a person I am, I doubt I'd ever have to worry about this.

Still, the mods here know what they're doing. They could infract far more than they do, they do use a lot of discretion when handing out infractions.

Still, unlike normies, the poor guys have to set an example, which means they can't let loose as much as we do.
Oh, one of the perks of not being a mod. Do ho ho. No burden of responsibility = naughty Teran.

Mods are interactive. Just because they don't ask questions or make new threads doesn't mean they don't want to interact. These people are chosen because they know what the hell they are talking about. Just because they are moderators they aren't obligated to know everyone in their forum and always be the one starting everything.

I also don't know what forums here you visit, but all the forums I visit here the moderators (and moderators from other boards) are very interactive, friendly, funny, and also know what they are talking about. There's no better way to close a thread then a mod party imo.

Like you said, this place is bigger, with alot more people than where you moderated. It would be a tough job moderating here. There are also a lot of, for lack of a better word, idiots here who troll (guilty), make threads before using search function, make stupid/flame threads, and a whole variety of shibaz. If you watch them closely they only act on things like that.

This is my feeling too, some of the character discussion threads are closed because "This can be posted in Q&A". Seriously, it's character discussion, when someone asks a question without a 1-5 word answer that hasn't been discussed recently it doesn't seem out of line for him to post a thread pertaining to it. Another "more important" moderator tends to shut down threads with strict reasoning as well.

Also, "threads about individual members"? Seriously? On a thread with sections devoted to the "competitive" scene, we can't talk about individual people? I don't know, it seems silly to me.

Good post.

LOL out of all that you chose to pick that out? that still doesn't change the fact that this IS a fairly large forum.

Well, see Q&A's are there to keep the boards less cluttered and to be a place where everyone can go to and ask questions and SEARCH (for some reason people don't do this) for what they need. Or even just reask it. Normally, from what I've noticed, moderators won't even close a thread that SHOULD belong in the Q&A thread if it's the first time a thread about it is being made. The ones that get closed are the ones that appear more than once and have been answered several times and are just cluttering the boards.

You don't understand why you can't talk about individual members? Because not everyone has the same feelings towards that member as everyone else, and sometimes feelings get hurt. Yes, it's an online forum, you shouldn't worry about opinions, but it still hurts some people.

Now talking about an individual members PLAYSTYLE, or something along those lines, that would be silly to close, especially if it's something innovative or new.

Haha I meant more in dept than that though. Like the segment of the rules that describe what SPAM is and how to avoid it.

If you're nationally recognized as a professional player and go to tournaments you're going to be talked about, and that's just the truth. If you don't like being talked about stop going to big events?

To be honest, if you're spamming, you know you're doing it. :)

Oh, and I don't think I've seen one person thread that wasn't spam, dumb, or a joke.

I saw the word moderator so I felt obliged to post here.

(I love you ND3)

(Jungle and SOLID pretty much have it right.)

Why should we leave a thread open when there are 100 others threads on the same subject?

Talking about a person is different than talking about how they fare in smash.

If I say something mean about a mod for example, it's different than me saying how badly X tourney goer did at Y tourney and why Z vid shows this.

Yeah, listen to SuSa, he's a mod he must be smart!

It's not even really that. Other users turn most of them into flame threads.
I personally don't understand the rule beyond that. :\

Also, can we stop with the almost-obsessive "zomg moderator" discussions? It's getting creepy. :x

I love you so much right now.

Lupe is the greatest.
Ditto.

We don't look cool, we just set the standards for what "is cool" and what "isn't cool".

There is a difference.

(Wait... Killjoy... you don't understand the rules? D:)
orly? That makes sense =O
Mods don't look cool, mods ARE cool.

Mods arent exactly the nicest people out there. Though 90% of the infractions I got were deserved. I was a smash noob/troller. When I finally decided to smarten up I was still hated by mods. However a mod is supposed to enforce rules. Not give more infractions to people they hate then ones they don't. A mod even pm'ed me and called me an idiot after I tried to become a better SWF member.

Sorry, she's higher than you. Sucking up, not down...

I'm not good at this. >_>

But anyway, I think Maxfire is the only one of us to be hated by mods and then actually turn into not just a mod...but an admin.
