I was one of tohse people that thought Palutena was a terrible choice because of her lending Pit the power of flight... But I don't care anymore, she is a great character and she deserves to be in this game. She can be a very unique character (and probably very funny like in KI:U). So I supporte her now.

Also "When Palutena joins the fight, Viridi lends Pit the power of flight. Viridi:Leave it to me!"
Viridi doesn't even have to lend him the power of flight since he doesn't fly anymore.

This is making me wish I could play Kid Icarus.

(Yes, controls johns.)
Entirely legitimate.

I was barely able to finish the game. Not because of difficulty, but the sheer discomfort and displeasure of the land battles.

I had to take breaks after literally every level. It's a great game, but the controls seem to be designed in a way to guarantee maximum hand cramping.

I actually found the controls very easy to get used to, something I totally didn't expect after seeing how it was controlled. I still get hand cramps every now and again, but I kind of preferred the controls this way. Also, if you have a 3DS stand, it helps, a lot.

Honestly, I bet Kid Icarus Uprising would have done about three times better minimum if the controls weren't so uncomfortable to so many people.

I thought the controls were (surprisingly) decent. They were a bit unconventional, but I didn't find them downright uncomfortable, even without the stand. The only time I used the stand was the first time I played it; I stopped using it after Chapter 1.

It's one of those things that's purely subjective. Many people were fine with the controls, but many more found it extremely uncomfortable.

Maybe it's because I'm lefty, but I never had problems with Uprising's controls. Even playing with ABYX for movements.

If as little as 30%~ of the install-base are dissatisfied with the controls, they probably were not worth it. While people who would outright not play the game (I was this for a while) are a minority, you will still get a lot of people who will play the game and just stomach it. That's horrible.

The thing is, the director took so much inspiration from Sin & Punishment. If the land battles were just rail shooters, the game could have still delivered fun, interesting and unique experiences. I don't think the trade-off was worth it. Then again, as someone who loved the original Kid Icarus, I am just salty that I have not had a faithful sequel. With Metroid and Castlevania both laundering on y axis, the market for epic side-scrollers is lacking, and Kid Icarus could have fulfilled the genre just fine.

The characters, story, and dialogue made the game 100% worth it, though.

Well, I struggled with the controls for the first few chapters or so, but then I adjusted. I actually don't have any problem with the controls now.

KI: U isn't a game to play siting down, it's a game to play while lying on the bed and or Couch

I quickly found the perfect solution when I played. I leaned back on a comfy couch and propped one leg bent upwards on the table right in front of the furniture and placed the system on top. Rarely had any cramping after doing that even after multiple hour sessions.

I will admit KI: U was definitely one of those games I played in steps rather then try it form beginning to end in one session just due to the hand issue. The controls are rather... complicated.

Hopefull the next time someone decides to make a new Kid Icarus game (cause Sakurai is never going to again) they go with a new control scheme.

The controls were awkward but it felt like the only way that game would've functioned on the 3DS. Luckily I was one of the people who got used to the controls after a while.

I never had any issues with the controls, even being left-handed. As far as I know, that game is a gumdrop of sheer perfection, and I personally always enjoyed the land sections a lot more than the flight sections, which I treated more like awesome interactive introductions to the chapters as well as great ways to show off the 3D and awesome graphics of the 3DS.

As for future installments, I'm sure that this game would be a dream to play with using a wiimote and nunchuck combination. So I'm definitely hoping for a Wii U sequel, even if Sakurai doesn't want to do it himself.

I'm pretty sure Sakuari would of had the game capable with the circle pad pro. I believe the reason he didn't was because the game was too far in development. More the reason for a sequel on the Wii U

I am really suprised you two being both lefties didn't had any problems, I read in lots of places how this game is not for lefties, but you two disprove that notion.

Personally I LOVED the controls, I couldn't imagine the controls with other configuration, they are a bit unorthodox? maybe, but that doesn't make them bad, I can play the game for hours, sometimes I have to rest because my elbows became sleepy, but otherwise, I find every aspect of this game being a masterpiece.

I liked the direction the series took with uprising, such a way to diferenciate the gameplay of this franchise from other.

You can even configure the controls in some other ways if you really are desperate about the controls, so that shouldn't stop anybody for playing this great game! (Don't listen to reviewers those guys only play the game like 15min then say the controls are bad), I have this game since 2012 and still play it regularly.

The controls didn't bother me at all, though a friend told me he couldn't play for longer than 15 minutes. Land battle definitely aren't my favorite thing, however I love multiplayer for some reason despite that.

I guess people can't control a character with something else than an analogic stick nowadays :awesome: Sure, moving with ABYX is absolutely unorthodoxe, but is it really different than a D-pad? (it would be different on a gamecube controller, though :troll:)

I see a lot of complaints about the controls.
And from what I've seen, it also seems like Uprising is unlikely to get a sequel anytime soon.

I think the perfect solution is a Wii U remake. Or... the next console. But there is a lot they could do with the gamepad.

Multiple hour sessions? Did you play Multiplayer or on really hard difficulty? My 3DS logged me under 8 hours I think of overall playtime. I only played for an hour once.

It depends. When I first played it sessions could last for over 4 hours at a time. In terms of difficulty I've beaten the first 11 chapters (plus a couple later ones) at 9.0 intensity. Didn't play online a whole lot though. I think I've logged 300+ hours overall, yet that pales in comparison to Pokemon Y (my first dive into the series) which has soaked up almost 1000.

The greatest winner is Brawl for all time gameplay.

It felt too complicated and uncomfortable for me to play seeing how I am left-handed and all... and no, moving Pit around with ABXY buttons is not the same as moving Pit around with the Circle Pad. I want to move in curved paths and diagonal paths, not up, down, left, and right.

I'm beginning to wonder if there's another factor to the controls being bad for some people. Dexterity? Size of hand? Flexibility? Because left-handedness is not an excuse as has been shown.

And yea, KI:U was my top game for hours for a long time, but then Animal Crossing and Pokemon X both ate up that ranking almost immediately.

Kid Icarus has so many great potential fighters that will most likely not be playable: Medusa (she could be playable I guess but I'm very doubtful), Hades, Viridi, Arlon, Phosphora, Pandora, the list goes on. It's a shame they all can't be playable as KI is a small series. I seriously hope Nintendo doesn't abandon the KI franchise so soon, KI:U sold over a million copies with relatively positive reception, so it certainly has potential to become a larger Nintendo IP. Here's to hoping they surprise us with a new game on the Wii U this E3.

Since Sakurai doesn't want to do it (respectable, he got sick of sequelizing after Kirby), who would you guys want taking over this franchise if Nintendo wanted to continue it?

I think Retro Studios could do amazing things with the KI franchise. I also think Next Level Games could make a solid new game as well (they did a great job with Punch Out!! and Luigi's Mansion 2). But I definitely don't want the Zelda team or some mediocre third party to ever handle a KI game.

Director: Koji Igarashi
Composer: Yasunori Mitsuda
Art style and production: Monolith Soft
Storyboard: Masahiro Sakurai. Someone else can take it from there after the blue-prints have been layed.
Programming: Nintendo EAD

Retro Studios would be a good option. If it had to be handed to a 3rd Party developer, maybe Treasure (the people who did Sin and Punishment) or Platinum Games.

I'll take a port of KIU. Include options for dual analog, one stick+gamepad screen or wiimote+nunchuck just to cover all bases.

If it's platinum I'm sure we'll get a playable Palutena.

I wonder too. I always think that the 3DS XL have the perfect size for my hand. Plus, I have fingers hypermobility, and I do play the piano, so I have all three traits you talk about.
