Dude, you're literally making an assumption that does not make sense. He did not say anything about a stage hazard. He just said that an "enemy from Samus' past" may appear at any second. I think that's more of a reference to Ridley's playablility, but, either way, we do not know. Saying "poor Ridley" and whatnot is honestly just annoying.
Whoa whoa, there's no need to flip **** over this!

I'll state again I'm a huge Metroid fan, I'm just looking over what we've been shown, and what we know, and I fear for his chances as a playable character.

What, what? Now people are saying that Ridley's chances have gone up and poofed? Where in any of this did Sakurai say that "Lol Ridley's a hazard guys"? The Pyrosphere was the place where he and Samus fought in Other M. That's it. It's what most people remember about the game apart from Adam and "the Baby".

Confirms Ridley as a character or hazard?
The first quote does not explicitly say anything about stage hazards. The second pic clearly shows an enemy from Samus past but I can't really tell what this says about Ridley.
My logic is is that he claims an enemy from Samus's past may appear any second, and Ridley is pretty much the most prominent enemy form her past, and is in fact a too big huge important part of the game (Other M). Not to mention that this is the level you fight Ridley on, it just points more to him being a stage hazard more than anything else.

All being said I still want Ridley to be playable more than anything :urg:

The hole Ridley makes in Other M is present.
You mean the hole he made to escape?
So, wouldn't that mean that Ridley....wouldn't appear at all? Since by this point, he's being food for the Queen Metroid?

Ridley is the only boss of the Pyrosphere, why would that change?
Pyrosphere bosses:
Asborean
Goyagma
Rhedogian
Vorash
Ridley

While Ridley is the only boss in the Geothermal Power Plant, the stage is simply known as "Pyrosphere".
That means any of those bosses could show up.

But then again, Sakurai has been shown to defy logic before....

On a change of subject, I love the idea of Mother Brain being a assist trophy. It kind of reminds me of when you were able to summon SNES!Andross and watch as he spits out blocks at the characters.

It would be even better if Ridley is able to summon his boss, like how Wolf is able to with Andross in Brawl.

A valid point, the bosses. That's a good catch.

But what I fear; how many of them are enemies from Samus' past?

Ridley to me would be interesting to see as a newcomer but the problem is the first look of the Pyrosphere stage back in August and therefore I think he'll be a stage hazard come time for release of the game. Besides we have Diddy coming up in less than a week and possibly Dixie

It's just that you're showing sympathy when no sympathy needs to be shown. It makes you come across as rude even if that's not your intention. Imagine you were going around telling a bunch of Toon Link supporters "sorry bout the deconfirmation" when we saw him on the ST stage. It would have been an unfounded assumption on your part (which would later turn out to be wrong) that ultimately just annoyed people. This is the same situation. Sympathy is not required, and giving sympathy sounds passive aggressive even if it's not your intent.

I'm not trying to insult you, dude, but you're getting on some people's nerves, including my own, and I'd appreciate it if you stopped. Did I explain it well enough?

It would be hilarious if the stage hazard is actually Phantoon who rips his own hole in the ceiling making the the other holes completely pointless.

Why would Sakurai intentionally leave fans of the most requested character in the dark just to take a massive dump on us months later... How does that make ANY sense from a developer's standpoint at all? Why not just show off Ridley right from the start instead of delaying the inevitable disappointment?

To this day I still have yet to hear a reasonable answer to this question from the anti-Ridely crowd.

She doesn't look scaled down to me. She's probably been scaled up.
Plus with that angle, of course Samus is going to look larger than she is. The real size comparison should be made using Mario who is right next to it. She looks to be at least 3 of him and the entire assist trophy model is even larger than that.

You do realize, that you're talking about the same man who chose to have WFT a character because there were no request for her.

I give sympathy since Ridley isn't confirmed nor deconfirmed, but I see Mother Brain here as being a problem for Ridley. My sympathy doesn't say he's deconfirmed, hell I'd be upset myself to not see another playable Metroid rep.

Hey it's you again!

I remember what a nice person you were to me, and you're showing it again! Yay!
And I remember you misinterpreting what I was saying, and you're showing it again.

Care to tell me how saying Sakurai's quote is neither a confirmation or a disconfirmation for any case, be it pro-Ridley or anti-Ridley, is attacking you? Or is asking that also attacking you?

Why even worry about Ridley? This update is about Mother Brain, and while I don't play with items, they come up in single player, and this one looks really cool. Between this and the moon falling on us, assist trophies seem like they could be really over the top this time.

Ok so Sakurai likes to think outside of the box... This is something we've known for... years now?

So what does this have to do with Ridley exactly?

This is where I stand too, especially as quick as he was to de-confirm Ashley, Skull Kid, and the SSE. Delaying the fact will lead to hope and doubt. If he isn't in, the disappointment will be much worse, and if he is in the excitement will be greater. I'm sure Sakurai is aware of this.

I just thought about this. This basically disconfirmed the possibility of Mother Brain being a boss in SSB4.

People are up in arms about Ridley being a playable character or a stage hazard (although I wouldn't really worry about that right now as a Ridley fan). This alone opens up the possibility of the Metroid Queen being the boss representative for the series. And I would love it if Ridley could get his revenge for killing him offscreen.

At this point, technically all of them are. :p

I definitely hope Ridley is playable, and I wouldn't be surprised if it went either way to be honest. If he's playable, that's awesome. If he's in the background here and comes out of that giant tunnel, that's a bit disappointing, but also cool.

The strange thing is, though, that we haven't seen any actual indication of a stage hazard at all on Pyrosphere. People sort of speculated that the lava would rise like with Norfair in Brawl, but I don't think that's the case, as that's a detail that I think would have been revealed when the stage was first shown. The other option is, of course, a creature attacking the stage...but with no confirmation on that and a complete sidestep of anything Ridley by Sakurai, there is a chance he could be a playable character. That tunnel may just be for extreme detail...or maybe another creature is set to come in from there and attack the stage (of the ones listed, Rhedogian would be most likely).

The other possibility is that maybe his model and programming as a stage hazard are simply incomplete at this point and not ready to be shown. Anyway, we'll see...but the excess number of Pyrosphere images, as well as zero mention of Ridley's name directly, keeps me hopeful for his playable inclusion. :)

And you know what? If Anthony Higgs is playable instead, I'd be cool with that too, haha!

I got it.
That hole on the Pyrosphere stage? We'll see an injured Ridley.....being eaten by the Queen Metroid, who will then see the fight that's going on, burst from the hole and be the stage hazard.

Thus, everyone is wrong.
Ridley is neither playable or stage hazard; he's a cameo. :troll:
And that "enemy of Samus' past"? It's the Queen Metroid, not Ridley. :troll:

EDIT: And the "trauma" thing? The Queen Metroid is a clone of THEBABYTHEBABYTHEBABYTHEBABYTHEBABY :troll:

How does he not think of us fans? He's making not one but two Smash Bros. games. He's acknowledged that cutting characters can alienate some fans, he's also added characters like Sonic and Mega Man and is trying to make a game that competitive and casual players can enjoy. So seriously, how is he not thinking of the fans.

If anything, this helps Ridley's chances.

Take a look at the pic.

SEE HOW "BIG AS ****" MOTHER BRAIN IS? NOW ALSO LOOK AT PALKIA!!!

Now you may be asking... What does that have to do with Ridley?

Simple.

Sakurai doesn't care about big assist characters clipping through stuff.

And I mean, major clipping.

Why wouldn't he hold the same stance on characters? Especially when Bowser already clips through Battlefield.

What you said about him leaving fans out of the dark, I was just saying he doesn't really seem to think about us fans.
Half the roster would like a word with you.

Seriously? Sakurai loves the Smash fans. Brawl and Smash 4's entire lifespan have been nothing but fan service from the launch of the Dojo all the way to the pics of the day that we're getting now and Sakurai is the sole reason for this.

Isn't Mother Brain only in Metroid, Super Metroid and in flashbacks in Other M?
dont forget zero mission, which looks to be what this version is based on (although i feel it should be a bit more red)

Anyway awesome end to the week, one of the coolest AT so far. I wonder what that means for the metroid AT we had in brawl, i liked it so i hope it still returns.
Oh and the first reactions to this update were awesome, i hope we get a few more that get people to lose it haha.
