They didn't just reveal the obvious tho. Sure you had updates like "you must recover", but you also had new items like the Gooey Bomb and Assist Trophies revealed pre-release. Not to mention the starting characters.

I can imagine my surprise if I didn't know Olimar would be a starter in the game, since he was on my wishlist for Brawl. I'd have been stoked. Same for disappointments, like Krystal not being included and just reduced to a special taunt role for the StarFox characters.

Yeah, quick amendment; it revealed a lot of obvious information, and also a reasonable amount of new information, much of which was necessary for hyping up the game. The bigger problem with Brawl, which overlaps with your complaint, was its poor handling of starter and unlockable characters, with too many cool newcomers as starters and obvious veterans as unlockables, which also seems to be fixed this time.
