Something tells me the lights thing above the ring could be breakable, like that Corneria gun from melee. Except I think it benefits the player who hits it last. In this pic's case, Zelda as opposed to Little Mac.

In my ideal Smash 4, K Rool's DK64 Boss Theme can be played on the Boxing Ring stage.

Maybe the FD version just won't have a hall or spectators. I mean, look at how different the FD version of Gerudo Valley is from that stage. Come on now.

It's already been confirmed some of the FD stages will be grounded... they're not like... all the exact same layout and size with stage specific aesthetics, they're just... flat, platform and hazard-less stages. Maybe the sides will be different, but it's not like the ring must float.

So judging by the comment I'm guessing certain characters with poor jumping/recovery will need the ropes to assist getting up. Sounds... unfair.

Are you thinking of Mario Galaxy? It's kinda in the same boat as Wily's Castle with the WarioWare-esque shape, but I'm pretty sure FD Gerudo Valley was three floating squares with the Gerudo symbol on them. I might not be remembering right.

Edit: Nevermind, forgot about the rock part, although really, I didn't mean they'd just be floating midair with nothing underneath, more that the FD Boxing Ring would have nothing on the sides. Something like those three, actually.

I kind of imagine something like it being on top of platforms like the ones in Mad Jack's room (There's more DK64 influence, SOMEHOW.) where it just gets propelled very high up, and you can't see the ground, but the ring itself is still there.

Here's a kicker though: Would it still have the bouncy edges? Not having that part of the ring itself might defeat the purpose of it being a "Boxing" Ring, but maybe they just won't bounce.

The lights feel more like a bonus then a actual stage hazard. I'm not sure how rigid rules are, but I'm sure if everyone agrees to not go out of their way to go up there this is a non-issue.

If you mean competitive/tournament rules it probably won't matter because the stage will be banned due to walk-offs.
