Well....at least Sakurai us giving a shoutout to us peeps outside Japan, no doubt confirming we'll get a demo. I guess i'm fine with this POTD because we'll be able to know pretty much everything about the game in a few days time anyway. 7/10 All around solid pic
Really is 7 the lowest rating you can give or something? As usual the potd was a waste of time. I guess it's hard to do something new every day but this was even more worthless than usual

My reaction to the pic of the day,

edit: I do like the game demo being released today but still, I feel like something else could have been shown.

Pff, what a tease. Though I got to admit I wasn't expecting a demo for this game since it's not a game that needs one at all, so I guess I'm happy. Played the crap out of Mario Golf's demo as well before launch.

They better not till 3 days before release to release that demo here though.

First he releases the game 3 weeks early in Japan for no apparent reason
>No apparent reason

Because people can definitely translate the thousands of trophy text paragraphs that are constantly added until the very last second before the game is finalized into over a dozen languages and have them all done the moment the Japanese version is finished.

Or he could, you know, delay the Japanese release date and wait until the game is finished on every language and release it all at once. Just saying.

About the demo, I hope we get it soon, I'm dying to play it >_<

Sooooo....

Not only is the rest of the world denied a demo, but is downright ignored and robbed of a POTD.

Damnit Sakurai, I take back all the bad things I've ever said about you. At least give us a damn legit menu!

Why would you not release a finished game lol.

If you were Sakurai, and you have this game youve been working on for like 2 or so years, and you finally finish it and want to give it to your fans, would you just sit on a fully finished game for a month because other versions havent been translated, or would you want to show your work that youve worked on so hard and are proud of?

I know, I know. I'm just saying Pokémon X/Y were released at the same time around the world, so it's not impossible.

All the text and conversations for Pokemon were finalized well before the release of the game, the last 2 or so months was finishing up modeling and animations and such, so the translation teams for X/Y had all the time in the world to finish on time.

Brawl trophies and their text are added until the game is finished.

They also had to get all the translations for texts done at the same time since they decided to add the option to choose the language. I doubt Smash 4 is going to do that.

"PotD, hey look! Japan gets to play smash 4 right now with this new demo! Now, everyone else won't be able to play it for a long while now, just don't get in the way of the Japanese people playing smash ok? Here is a screen of what it looks like, it's in Japanese because I am too lazy to actually make an English demo. Japan also gets the game tomorrow, making this demo almost useless, but they get it anyway before everyone else. Toodles! "

More interface....

I hope that the releases outside of Japan have different characters depending on the location. That would be pretty cool.

It is a middle finger when you realize that the retail demos have offered way more playable characters, AND the option to play Smash Run, while the eShop demo is only limited to 5 characters and one game mode.

Yikes, I thought people would at least a little more happy that we might be getting an eShop demo.

Ehh, it is a bit. I think the only difference that makes the eShop demo better is you get an unlimited amount of Smash matches at least, (as long as you don't run down the 30 demo run limit.) I'm sure you can bypass that anyway with Sleep Mode.

Whatever, I'm glad we're getting a downloadable demo in any case. Demo's are meant to be a taster, anyway. Not the full thing.

I guess you're right, but it just feels like a middle finger when you consider that the people who played the retail demos had more character and stage options. And of course, they could also try out Smash Run, which is not available in the eShop demo.

Anyway, since the eShop demo only offers five characters, it probably won't take long before you get bored of it, but if the demo data can be transferred onto the actual game, that might be another story.

Yeah, this was a really underwhelming PotD. It was already rumored that countries outside Japan were getting a demo, so to have a picture solely focusing on the demo that the majority of people can't currently play is not really the best way to build hype. It didn't even reveal anything very relevant for people not able to play the demo. I just hope Friday's picture isn't "Here's the title screen. Players in Japan will see it when they boot up the game today."

Wow the anger is real in this thread.

Idk. I'm in the US and I'm hyped. I think this was an expected PotD. I certainly don't feel like I deserved something better than this. We've gotten plenty of info already and it felt like we were in menu week 3.0, so this demo is appreciated and the PotD makes sense.

Lol at the anger here.

To be honest, I don't see the point of a demo being released just a couple of days before release, but eh, the more the merrier, I suppose.

I dunno, people were doubting an e-shop demo at all, and since it's releasing so soon, I think giving us more than they did would've been too much.

Maybe another stage, but at least we can pick Battlefield FD version.

...I just want the demo. I'm good with just having Mega Man and Villager as newcomers to try.

The demo could've at least given us the option to use the eight starters from the first Super Smash Bros. though.

I guess I'm just gloomy, simply because the gaming events have been so spoiled with their retail demos offering more to try out.

Perhaps, but I would think if anything Nintendo would have preferred a simultaneous release...and I see no real possible reason that such a simultaneous worldwide release wouldn't be possible when it was done with huge, text-heavy games like Pokemon X/Y.

So I choose to blame Sakurai's bias!
That's a ridiculous notion. Sakurai plays a major part in developing the game, he's not involved in the marketing, manufacturing, licensing, or distribution of the games themselves. You can't pin the bias of one individual on a process that involved with several divisions within Nintendo.

The fact is we do not know what the simultaneous release wasn't done in this case, and at best all a simultaneous release would have done in delay in further in all regions more then likely. The vast majority of games that come out from Japan generally do not have worldwide releases, it's actually not a extremely common occurrence. The nature of the game itself is not always the biggest problem when it comes to release schedules.

True, but doesn't it make more sense to give you more if there's an event around it lots of people are also going to be at, that you'd have to travel to, rather than just download and play in your own time?

My guess for this is probably to limit the size of the demo itself. As any demo of SSB is going to be a major download they had to limit it's overall size for the purpose of easing up on the server resources needed for the demo distribution while most of the retail demos had a physical means of dealing with that problem.

Tomorrow's pic of the day will be of his 3DS menu where he indicates that you can start the game by clicking on the smash bros. icon.

So, I step in here and...

People whining. Why am I not surprised?

Anyway, three weeks until the release outside of Japan. For someone who's waited extra 5 months for Brawl and without news even after the game was released in North America, I'm quite satisfied with how things are turning out this time.

I can't learn anything I really care about the demo from yesterday because it's so limited.

I don't really care about gameplay, more about animations. Yeah, I spend more time on solo than anything. Only time I use smash is unlocking purposes. Smash run is the thing I'll play a lot and it may be the mode I'll use the most if you can select your music.

Which makes me avid to see Paper Mario music...

Please? I mean the stage kinda confirms at least one so...

Well, ok, I did learned the stage icon is mario, but because it was shown on the week end demo, that's not surprising.

So, I just wait on Friday 11 AM EST.

Btw, is it weird to not see a leak of the full roster now? Brawl was I think, but here, it's not final.
