THAT is impressive as a community and really nice for breast cancer research. well done :D im glad mlp will still get some stuff but man i was hoping we could get that tourney... regardless though good job and keep going!
You should stick around and browse Melee threads and vids. The Smash community is awesome and the Melee peeps go super hard.

Looks like wepay is back up. Good thing, too, the Skullgirls dudes would probably have accused us of hacking it if it had stayed down for much longer.

If it looks like Melee is going to completely dominate Skullgirls at the end of the month (and judging by the mood both here and on SRK it looks like it will), there's no reason that we couldn't hold a separate round of donations that can be given to the Skullgirls community to use as a prize fund for their EVO side-tourney. Even if it only amounts to a few hundred, a small gesture of goodwill can go a long way.
This is actually a great idea. I had read it before but for some reason it didn't register. Also thanks 0sh for the regular updates, it's extremely helpful =D

Making a donation drive for SkullGirls side tournament (if we lose) at Evo would be the nicest thing you guys would ever do. Thank you for the kind idea lol

Happy to help. I personally play SFIV, but I've always had a soft spot for the Smash series (played a lot of 64 during breaks at high school), and a lot of respect for SG as an aspiring developer myself. So I'm sort of torn between the two, lol.

If melee wasn't an option I'd have went with SG all the way. It's a really solid fighter with a lot of good hand holding elements. I honestly have no idea how it didn't catch on.

Greetings, I come from the SG forums. Just wanted to sign up and congratulate your passionate community for raising that much money in a short amount of time. Thats truly impressive. This is a good cause raising donations for Breast Cancer Research.

Wish you people luck for the rest of this interesting competition :)
Thank you so much, it's so nice for people from other communities to post here, I really appreciate it

Number 13 over on the SG boards seems to believe that a last minute "Snipe" donation will throw us into chaos and turmoil. I disagree, most of the people who donated are going to be monitoring the numbers until the end. However i feel we should organize a final donation drive to be held in the final hours. Lets finish this four stock with a spike.
This, we really aren't clear yet. The last day of donations is going to be tough, we need to watch out.

Also, once we're at EVO I think it would be awesome to raise some pot money for the Skullgirls tournament at Genesis 3, like that would be hella legit.

Melee and Skullgirls communities, unite!

Ugh...my head hurts so much...passing out with all my **** on sucks lol

Anyway, I'm glad to see that there is more then just "LET'S WIN EVERYONE". See the mentality that I hate is just people only thinking about winning and nothing more. At least we've all thought of secondary goals besides winning. I know we've already established that, but it still makes me happy that a big community like smash is willing to help a small community like SkullGirls. To be honest, every day I'm getting closer to trying out Melee.

I already got someone to start playing SkullGirls at my arcade, and I am most likely going to start playing Dead or Alive 5 in exchange (Me and the guy had the same exact idea lol. We sat right across from each other, not realizing that were both fighting to promote our games).

You know..I scratch your back, you scratch mine.. :3

ugh..my head...

Edit:

That may be true, but we are still going to fight. We've at least proven to your community that we meant business. Hopefully these next few weeks, SkullGirls will try to pull an epic comeback with our own donation drive coming up. Only time will tell.

And the thing is, I just hate people with mentality that this whole competition will leave the opposing community for dead if either community wins, when in fact it is just a friendly competition to help find a cure for breast cancer. I know not everyone thinks that, but some of you (and my community) do.

No one here seriously thinks that dude. <_<

Super sure of it.

Also, you should let the guys know how some of us here feel about help you guys are and about how some of us bought the game and/or liked the demo. >_>

This is a good chance to start on working on that community bond some of us are thinking about. :V

Thank you for reassuring me. That's nice to know.

We should work hard to create a strong bond for our communities, I felt this competition had way too many close calls to cause a unrecoverable tension between our communities (and unneeded hate towards each other)

And sure, I'll spread the message to the SRK forums.

Let's work together for a brighter future. Like I've said countless times, I don't care about the outcome of this donation drive, I care that we both can grow as communities and that SkullGirls will one day become as legendary as your guys community.

Besides, we need to stay buddy buddy so I can all have your childre-I mean get to meet you and maybe we can play each other games. That's what I meant..:3

There is not one single person who is perfectly going to represent our community in the light that the majority want it to be represented. You should look more at the whole when "judging" our community rather than at specific individual posts lol

Anyways, it's really amazing that all of us are so committed to donating to such a good cause while trying to get our games into EVO. If Melee wasn't on the list, I definitely would have voted fro Skullgirls. Really legit game- love the artstyle and gameplay especially.

I'm really glad our communities are all being "united" by these friendly competition for such a great cause. It's very inspiring to see that a group of people can collaborate and make such great things happen. :)

I wasn't judging your community as a whole, I understand not everyone has perfect people in their community lol

To be honest, when this whole competition started, I assumed that everyone was going to be at each others throats, trying to kill each other for a spot at the biggest fighting game tournament in the world. Nobody caring for whoever lost, only caring about their own selfish gain.

After awhile, it's amazing how much our communities are actually so kind towards each other and that no matter who wins, we will still support each other either way. The fact that you guys say if: melee wasn't on the list then you would of voted for SkullGirls, is proof enough that you guys are such an open minded community and care about communities that are struggling much like yourselves.

Yeah well from reading the SG thread, it feels like most of the kindness comes from Smash and is not all that mutual. Just my gut feeling from reading it, I'm not going to make a general case here.

To be honest, I won't deny that. Thankfully, I'm one of the many people who wishes to have peace with your community. I just wish everyone had the mindset I did, not the melodramatic or crazy over the top mindset, but the mindset to respect other communities and accept the ideas and help they are willing to give us.

I completely agree with this. The SG community on SRK are just hating on Smash left right and center. I think i can point out like 2-3 guys that really support Melee. I am not gonna get into a beef with some of the SRK guys, but if they were winning i doubt any of them would give a rat** about donating some of their money to the smash community.

All they talk about is how we steal(The Apex fiasco) Smell bad(pretty sure i bath everyday) and our game is played in a way that is very boring. Shout out to BrandX for being one of the SG players to show some love though.

Dude you seem like a pretty sensitive guy, that's awesome cuz I'm too

But remember that this is the internet, you should really ignore such comments and not take everything seriously

And I'm positive he was joking, I actually found it quite funny joke in midst of all the compassion expressed towards your community. It makes sense in the context of the other posts. Either way, it really shouldn't matter to you nor make you upset

You seem like a cool guy, I hope our communities can merge together and perhaps have a baby

Sorry, I keep forgetting the internet is a vast world that shouldn't be taken seriously lol. And really, when I'm not being over the top, dramatic, or sensitive, I really am a cool guy. If any of you want to add me on skype, I would definitely talk to you, trust me lol.

And to be honest, even if SkullGirls was winning, I'm sure I would of tried to rally ideas to help melee out. Not sure how many people would listen, but I would do something.

Btw, SmashGirls anyone? I think I suggested this hybrid before lol

Well you can ignore srk randoms saying **** like bathe cause they tell that to anyone new regardless of game. We say it too.

I do have a problem with the whole stealing thing, they understand that it's just one disgusting person but no one had even had the thought cross their mind that it wasn't a smasher. 10 games were represented and people on campus may have gotten in. Just hoping we can find whoever did it.

Just take it in stride that some people are so fearful of Smash winning they have to make vehement posts to hate on it. People hate on something they don't want to or will ever understand what it's about and that's the spot Smash has always been in.

All that matters is what we want and we want to get more exposure for our game, we want to expand, we want to reach an audience that otherwise doesn't know we still exist, and we're doing that by not only donating to breast cancer research but also by trying to get into Evo. There's other reasons too but I'd be going on a long laundry list I don't have the time to write out (in class atm) and my thoughts are kind of jumbled right now but the point is: we have the drive to go forward and there's nothing some silly people on another forum can say to deter us from continuing. Ignore it and embrace the people who actually appreciate what we're doing and know what we're about (as well as the game).

For the love of the game, basically.

That's the spirit. Don't let people get your community down, keep fighting. I used to be one of those scared people, that's basically how you all know me lol, but most people didn't realize that it's just survival of the fittest.

But that's not to say that the lower communities aren't trying to do the same. Smash had mostly the advantage due to being around for 12 years and having a larger user base, one of the things that I believe people were most frustrated and confused about.

The one thing that matters to me however, is that at least you guys respected us for working so hard to defeat a kingdom like yours. Out of everyone that was in the race for EVO (not counting MLP because their fanbase is as big as yours I believe lol), I'm pretty sure SkullGirls was the last game you guys would have expected to put up one hell of a fight. That's the one main important factor here, "respect".

Skull girls is way more easy to assimilate as a "fighting game" for most of the FGC though, we've been through this for too long, people are just starting to take us seriously, don't get me wrong i like SG, it's just that i feel this time we deserve it more than ever

I understand that, you've guys have been oppressed for too long and finally want to get the recognition it deserves.

But you know, the FGC is a cruel mistress.

Even if we are considered more of a "fighting game", the fighting game community still looks down upon us for having a low roster, apparently "weird" artstyle and not having anything anyone knows (Also apparently having too long of combos, even though Marvel vs Capcom 3 does the exact same thing...). Even if we are a game specifically made for the competitive scene and by the fighting game community itself, people still have the gulls to try and make SkullGirls vanish.

By the looks of it, SkullGirls could be considered at the bottom of the food chain.

Goes to show that if it doesn't have the words CAPCOM on it, it automatically sucks. (Not really true, but sometimes that's the way I see it)

Well, you have to realize that all of the FGC does not reside on the SRK forums. So saying "most", when about 50%-80% of those posters on there don't even attend a single tournament, would be highly inaccurate. Though maybe that statistic fits more with stream monsters (which should highly be ignored just as well).

Just saying we're a fighting game and just acting naturally towards everyone else who plays the other games, as Skisonic said a few days ago, goes a long way to bridging that gap we never seemed to cross for whatever reason.

And I really feel like a huge boon to us has always been the lack of an actual *news* site so people know the community is still thriving. And we're now just getting that since AZ bought smashboards back from MLG. That's going to be huge for us, alone, to get more exposure. Vectorman's combo video got posted on SRK because Omni had made a newspost about it! That's a step in the direction we need to keep going in.

I know not everybody plays Project M or whatever, but look at what it took to get word out there about it. It went from being largely unknown to the mass audience to becoming something *big* that even someone like James Chen wants to try out sometime. That's good for Smash, really, really good. To have such an amazing community driven project. It's just an example I'm making, is all.

This contest or competition or donation drive, whatever you want to call it, can get us a huge level of exposure. Evo is like the icing on the cake. Showing we love the game this much to donate to a good cause is simply amazing.
