When I was playing as Mario yesterday, I used to tornado to recover and when my opponent Kirby tried to intercept, he got sucked in and the last hit spiked him straight down. Why does his tornado spike and where exactly is the spiking hitbox located at the end?

The last hit has to be the tip of the feet.

I don't recommend going for this often though, it's risky, sketchy, and unreliable. That and Mario already edgeguards fine. Only do this for flash, really.

Alternatives: DSmash, wait and grab the ledge, jump off and bair/fair/dair, jump off the edge and do it, wait for landing and throw them off again.

the combo uair + uair + tornado to spike is so cool and not risky. Try to practice it in training mode. All you need to do is be very near to the edge when doing the tornado

Slide DI.

It's a multihit move. Multihit moves are easier to DI.

Means that while you can spike, it's not guaranteed.

Jake is definitely dropping Yoshi
Yeah thought so. My point was even if someone has mastered the spike as best as tool-assistedly possible, a human can always escape it with DI. It would be cool to pull off, but it would be safer to just do a Fair or Dair.

Get a turbo button just in case. This way even if you miss, you can make helicopter noises.

But yeah, unreliable, but I guess you could throw it out there once in awhile. It's not like anyone really EXPECTS it to spike.

Is that legit? I like Mario a lot but I seem to have a hard time finishing his combos, unlike Luigi who is clearly inferior of the two but has two legit finishers out of Uair juggles so I find myself using him more. If you get a Uair juggle with Mario by the edge will this work?

Go to a tournament with a turbo button. Yeah, that'll definitely be allowed.

Also, anyone who knows about this and DI will definitely be suspecting an attempted spike and be completely prepared for it. It only works if you either get really lucky or the other person really sucks at DIing. Or if you just happen to hit them with the feet while they're trying to edgeguard you.

Sometimes the tornado even hits them at a downwards 45 degree angle, which is also pretty hard to recover from for some chars. Although sometimes (probably a lot of the time) they just pop out with like, no hitstun at all.

Or they just get sent up by the regular hitbox. That would be silly.

...Wait, what? They seriously have tournaments for SSB64 still? That's awesome. I gotta look those up.

Thats true, luigi has better finishers, but mario is better in everything else i think.
You can use marios powerful up+a to finish. Also you can use nair without jump, and fair if you have one more jump.

Well like, Mario's Usmash is awesome, but sometimes it's not practical if you there isn't a platform or something for him to reach while he's ending an Uair juggle.

yeah and i believe mario and luigi are awesome on stages like dreamland where they can do a lot of fast and devastating combos using the platforms.
Luigi for example, I think hes rubbish on a stage like Hyrule... With the horizontal fireballs he cant spam on the sides unlike mario.

If you live in BC, no johns for not making the tournament. There are people who are coming from farther away just to attend the tournament. Quit being lazy and find someone else in your area who you can get a ride with :p
