Well, one less game to look forward to.

They really screwed this one up, unless these are just the screens for special, annoying levels that no one wants to use, and it is possible to play the actual, simple game of tennis.

I'm willing to bet it'll be like Mario Golf was. There'll be levels that are Mario universed like the above ones and then there will be normal tennis courts.

I don't really see how the obstacles make the game a bad thing, it's something new and it adds to the fun.

Looks like it will be another great game to add to my collection. If it's better than the first one, it will be a must-own. Mario Tennis 64 was a blast.

Gosh, Nintendo, I love you and all, but do you want to make me broke? Geese.

I think they do, provided you're spending all your cash on their crazy crap.

That said...

I loved Mario Tennis 64 so hard. This'll be awesome. Genius, I see where you're coming from, but like CSHD said, they've got to have some regular courts. It's just that the plain stuff doesn't make for exciting screenshots like ghosts and stuff do.

Looks cool. Mario Tennis 64 was one of those games that I loved, but was too expensive (like Mario Party 3).

Hopefully Mario Tennis 2 will recapture the fun that was Mario Tennis 64, or at least make it more fun than Toadstool Tour.

Those special stages are nothing more than the extra things like in the original, so don't worry.

It looks as refreshing from Mario Tennis as MKDD was to MK64! Let's hope it'll be as fun as the first one, with even more unlockables and that it will last as long (unlike MKDD).
I hope they bring back also the character-themed courses, but more of them. The Wario course in MT64 was my favourite by far, because it had a remix of the Wario Land 3 theme.

Mario Tennis 64 cost too much?

Blech.

I guess...Maybe...I bought it for $30 at a used game place...

And believe me, it was well worth it. Add in Mario Tennis GBC for $10, and I've had PLENTY of hours of gameplay on those two games combined. Whenever this game comes out, I am definitely getting it...After I get Paper Mario 2, that is...

30? I've seen it for around $40 used (like Mario Party 3).

About the Delfino Isle stage: what are the shine sprites for? I'm thinking they may be obstacles when you smash them.

Also, it looks like each character has a special move. Personally, I'd love to play as Koopa with his speeding shell.

I just watched the video, and I think I've figured out some of the special stuff, namely the Shine sprites. It appeared that hitting the ball through one caused a couple of puddles of goo to appear on your opponent's side of the court. The goo, of course, slows you down.

I think Nintendo should sell Reggie's personal items on Ebay. They'd make a ton of money. Like, I'd totally put up for that suit.

Holy crap! For those of you who downloaded the IGN video, watch it again, since no one mentioned this:

Koopa Troopa vs. Waluigi

The ball was too far away for Koopa Troopa to hit, so he jumped into his shell, flew to the other side of the court in a burst of flame and smacked it, winning the match!

How many other secret hits will there be??

Waluigi had some kind of huge spin attack.

Also, you can hardly move when you get in the Mario Sunshine paint.

Just some observances :D.

I remember that. I had my mom buy me Pokemon Stadium 2 the day it came out, and she had me do extra chores for it since it was 15 dollars more than I told her.

There seems to be a 4 player coop or mini-game, too. That will rock!
Also, the crowd is made of very strange characters in the video. There are Toads, Nokis, Piantas, but also Toadswtorth, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, a blue Birdo (!), a Monty Mole, a Penguin, a Para Goomba and Ukiki the monkey. That's pretty neat, and so is DK's course.

If I remember correctly, wasn't this game supposed to have a major graphical overhaul at E3? Yeah... it was!

I remember this article:

"The latest issue of Nintendo Dream is apparently reporting that the Camelot Software developed Mario Golf and Mario Tennis for GameCube have received major improvements over previous versions. The magazine declares that players' 'eyes will pop out of their heads' when they see the changes implemented. "

So much for that...

A recent IGN news article:

"According to a Mario Tennis page on Nintendo's press site, the upcoming GameCube sports title will be able to communicate with the broadband adapter, which would indicate that it could be LAN or online ready.

Nintendo has not released official details on Mario Tennis' multiplayer mode, except to say that it will support four-players simultaneously for single-screen tournament play. But pundits have long suspected that the popular franchise could be a vehicle for Nintendo's long-delayed online plans. That noted, given Nintendo's current stance on online games, a broadband modem-enabled LAN-play option would appear to be the more likely of the two scenarios."

This definitely shows promise... think about it. Why would Nintendo need LAN support for this game? It's unlikely you'd have more than 4 people playing at once, first of all, and the way the game is set up is that everyone can see what's going on without having multiple screens. So if this game goes online... *drools*

Nintendo will add in the gimmicks, as always, but as long as they do what they did in the first one, I'm interested. That is, if it's another very simple, fun game of tennis with Mario-universe characters, and with bright graphics and sharp controls, it'll be great.

LAN support would be beautiful, of course.

Why would there be LAN in a Tennis game? Tennis has 4 people playing at the most and I don't think everyone needs their own TV when playing Doubles.

I'm just going to assume it's online, LAN just wouldn't make sense.

well online would make more sense... but this is Nintendo... I don't understand why every major gaming websites such as IGN and Cube-Europe now believe that this game will be online.

But obviously LAN wouldn't make sense either...

unless we get Tennis Triple Trouble ;) and you can play up to 6 players in a match...-_-

for some reason most of my ps2 and xbox friends played Mario Tennis in the n64 era and they all want me to buy this game when it comes out.

If it has online/lan support I defintely will.

Is this coming with a game boy version as well like the last one did? I loved building my own PERFECT character and the ability to transfer her over to the 64 version was more than an extra bonus. Is there any word on a gba version?

I'm too lazy to look myself

I think I'm going to buy this game. I just rented it, and it's ridiculously fun... Especially with four people. If you enjoyed the first one, you definitely need to pick this one up. The game is so japanese though. Like Warios offensive special? You can tell this game was made in Japan.

Well, I guess the game has already been out for a year and no one has posted anything else on this game. In the end, I think there was like no improvement in the second one. The little mini games can be fun, but the actual game is pretty much the same.

By power off do u mean the things that stops the game play for like 5 seconds so you can hit the ball. If you mean those, and you leave them on, you really don't know how to play a fast paced game.

This game is pretty fun... but only with power shots off. Otherwise, its just "Oh no, i suck and cant reach this ball so Ill stop time and get the point!!! Just like the last 20 times!!!"

but with power shots off it's the exact same thing as mario tennis 64, which is thus why the new one is completely pointless.

Yeah I never played the N64 MT except a few times at a friend's. Power shots really do suck. It was primarily because of power shots that I ended up playing Peach in this game and not Paratroopa. Control is the only stat I can't do without. Get to the net, and own with mediocre Speed, Power, and Spin, but insane Control. It would've been broken if they allowed you to transfer GBA characters to the GCN. lol Max power, speed, and control.
