Luigi against bananas...

So I was in a tournament a couple of weeks ago, and I was in the loser's finals. I was up against this very sick Diddy. I'm a Falco main and I lost the first match. I cped Japes and beat him. But then I piked Luigi (my secondary) and ended up beating him the next two games. Luigi is extremely effective agaisnt bananas, sliding away if he gets hit, so Diddy can't do any follow ups. He also KOs Diddy early, and banana throws to UpBs are great. I looked at the matchup discussions, and its fairly even. I actaually think of Luigi as a Diddy counter.
What do you guys think?

I've never heard of Luigi vs. Diddy as even, I've always seen it as Luigi advantage.

Luigi big advantage. Luigi's glide toss is crazy. Plus luigi's basic moveset is pretty much Diddy+1. Anything he can do, you can do better.

Maybe I've played too many homo diddy's but imo Luigi does not counter diddy >_> I really think it's relatively even with maybe a slight advantage going one way or another unless the diddy doesn't know how to play luigis.

Luigi can out-prioritize and out-range diddy and all that which sounds good on paper, but most character's have that advantage against diddy yet diddy is a difficult match-up for most characters.

Falco has a better match-up with diddy so I'm guessing the diddy you played knows that match-up better...

Yeah, I got beat by a Luigi main in a tournament because I didn't know the matchup.

Yes and no. Luigi is a natural counter but diddy can camp the hell out of him with peanuts and he trips so far that out of a single trip diddy regains a ton of space to recamp and position himself. It's definitely one of diddy's hardest matchups, you just can't get hit by luigi in SH mode Luigi is also really weird to dash attack combo because of his weird body shape/air speed... its hard to grab that *****.

I ****ing died laughing at that ****. And yes he can camp literally with nanaerz :[ I was gonna say mindgames but that's abit too tangerent. And somehow if you throw a nanaer if luigi trips, he slides, but diddy's just have to run abit farther then usual to grab him. But then again no moar autopilots for j00s =P

The majority of the time, diddy's will not know how to play against luigi unless they've had extensive knowledge, or extensive snapshots in their head from fighting them on a first match thing. Luigi tourney scene isn't that tough or around compared to diddys >_>

Best advice, control the nanners. Obviously that's how you play diddy, but maybe not obviously.

I really think luigi handles diddy. My evidence? Alpha zealot is way ****ing better than me, but I played him in tournament and came like a frame away from winning both games. Lost, like I was expected to, but came ****ing close!

I agree. Luigi does very well against Diddy. His low traction makes him much harder for Diddy to combo and gives him a useful glide toss -> Smash combo.

I can easily see him having a solid advantage in this matchup especially if he knows how to catch Bananas and as long as he doesn't get gimped offstage. Because of his ridiculously low traction, he shuts down a good portion of Diddy's Banana game just by sitting around and sliding away. This means Luigi is one of the more durable characters against Diddy, since DIddy will have an extremely hard time landing a KO move on him. To make matters worse for him, Luigi has his own glidetoss to Smash combos which kill way earlier.

I just played this matchup recently...and LOL. It's so blatantly hard for Diddy to combo Luigi at all.

Also, Fireball camping > Peanut Camping IMO.

Not only does Diddy lose as a natural counterpick, he loses to me as a personal counter pick. I excel at throwing items and setting up bananas (I don't even use Diddy), and I abuse the glidetoss a lot.
