I am a Game and Watch main. I stick through all his tough matchups.... Except one. I hate playing against meta knight as Game and Watch. My favorite character to play as against the knight is lucario, and from what I have heard he actually does decently against him. I would like to use lucario after I win the first round, to prevent a meta knight based counter pick, or at least be ready for one, so I want to know the matchup very well. Better than meta knights know lucario at least. So, could some of you better lucario's of this board tell me the ins and outs of this battle, what to do and expect.

Also, what I have been doing is abusing the living hell out of my projectiles, and the priority on the u-tilt.. I know the aura spheres are good but..

1) Charge them or use a lot of little ones? I tend to stick to the latter but I occasionally charge. Is there a clear cut better against the meta knight?

2) Is my u-tilting against a disjointed hitbox a good idea? It seems to work, but my friend is a terrible meta knight, and I don't see the matchup much...

Thank you so much in advance.

Williamson County, which is in the middle of Tennessee...

I doubt I can smash with you directly, but my dad (unfortunately my only mode of transportation) didn't mind taking me to a smash tournament with other players. PM me if there is a TN tournament you are going to.

I'm away from wii for a week, ill give you my FC when i get back.

Now, get back on topic >=[

But... I'm in the middle of Tennessee. =o I'm like an hour south of Nashville. In Shelbyville.

I'm going to Kumite in Tennessee, which is in Nashville in exactly one week.

I dunno, I haven't looked, yet. I saw Kumite and was like "THAT ONE."
XD
I would love to play you. Game&Watches are fun.

Anywho. Meta Knight. Uh... You can actually crouch under his ShFair and Shbair if they don't fast fall (and they rarely do) it which is hilarious and then dtilt.
You outrange him all day, with your aura bursts. If he goes in for an SH, do an angled up ftilt.

Aura Spheres, charged and uncharged, make him approaching you from the ground difficult so he'll come from high up which is easily countered due to Meta's limited options from above you.

Only thing you really have to watch out for is not paying attention to dsmash or fsmash and don't get set up for Shuttle Lewp.

=o What particular questions do you have against Meta as a Lucario?

Just how the match is best played.

Can you FP CG him, even twice? Or does a FP lead to something better, I saw that video of that lucario 0-Deathing a DeDeDe, and I was like "If that was a metaknight, I would be soo happy"

You can do it, but it's difficult.

There's no real best way to beat a Meta Knight other than limit his options so you can see what's coming and then outplay him. There's too many ways to play a Lucario at this point to give you a rundown.

I'd have to know how you roll your Luca. =o

Like Milln said, it's kind of hard to tell you how to play against meta. There's different, effective ways. Anyways, mix up BAS and AS. A full AS will make him think twice about approaching with nado.

my friend's meta is pretty good but i can beat him with lucario. i charge AS whenever possible as mini AS wont stop a mach tornado. use fsmash for spacing and you'll severely limit his approach options... throw your AS when he lands from any aerial or does a bmove, but shoot it randomly to stay unpredictable. attack meta from below with a mix of uptilt, upsmash and upair, that's where he's most vulnerable... dair will break a lot of his moves from above. i play a mostly defensive game looking to abuse my range, free damage is good.

i can see why you dont want to use g&w vs meta. it's a really, really hard matchup unless you have a GOOD practice partner. lucario doesn't need nearly as much experience vs meta imo.

I heard GaW was a soft counter to Meta. Why is it such a bad matchup?

Also don't land on Meta. uB and usmash will destroy you. Your dair can outprioritize the uB, but it's nearly instant and very hard to punish. It's something you should just avoid.

I have a few tips cause i usually play against metaknight:
1.- Dont try to beat him in the air with your fairs and nairs... they will get hit with his Fair even before you move.
2.- If hes below you they might try : A) Shuttle loop, B)Uair, C) Match tornado. If the answer is A then try to Dair him as fast as you can, you will outpriorise him, if its B then just try to air dogde DIing to his back, If its C then double team before you get trapped.
3.- Crouch his fair and keep spacing
4.- Shieldgrab them a lot but be careful with his multihits and insta-Dsmash
5.-keep shooting BAS to aproach and shoot them a full one when you see them running toward you.
6.-tech their dthrow and shieldgrab them after they attack
7.- be careful with your recovery cause they like to fair when you come back

so thats basically it

I just want a lucario that is good. I'm gonna use him if I win the first match, so whatever they throw to take out my GaW will instead face a lucario. I like the fact he is, at this moment, overlooked, and he is great fun to play.

Noob question, what is a BAS? I assume its a nickname for the small aura spheres, but I'm not sure at this moment =[

Thanks for the help guys.

BAS almost always means Baby Aura Sphere, which is a nickname for a small aura sphere.

BAS = Baby Aura Sphere Edit: Curse you, Hallooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!

It's the nickname for uncharged spheres, like you thought.

No problem, Phloat. Lucario's fantastic.

it's actually 50/50 if both players know the ins and outs of the matchup... but a g&w with less experience will have a really hard time. meta's ftilt and utilt beat g&w's bair and dair, respectively, and his dsmash is faster and has the same range as all g&w's smashes. if you try to play spacing he can tornado and even shuttle through your bair/fair/nair. also you need to train built in spot dodge reflexes or meta's insanely fast upb, rising aerials and dsmash will own you.

Well, say I lose the second match, but my Lucario did a lot better than my GaW did against someone's MK. What is a good level to counterpick if I am pretty sure he is gonna be MK and I know I'm with Lucario?

keep your distance and spam F smash. Don't use it twice in a row though, because he can easily get in and punish in between. You can try F-smash > shield if MK tries to reach you with an aerial or a dash attack. If he uses a dash attack, he may end up behind you, so just pay attention when that happens. If he uses the whorenado then good luck :/

If he starts side stepping and D smashing like some MKs do, you can try to sh > Dair instead of trying to punish with a smash.

Just some habits I've noticed from the generic MKs everywhere...

If you're Lucario and you have the ability to counterpick a stage, Luigi's Mansion is GENERALLY the best one to go with. If you don't like Luigi's Mansion or feel that you'd do better on a different stage, go with Yoshi's Island.

For the counterpick question: Yoshi's Island, maybe? The rising platforms on the sides hurt MK's edgeguarding game, and you can wallcling easily if you need to.

My friend and I have banned Luigi's mansion, although in a tournament setting that sounds pretty good. I saw the extremespeed off the ceiling thing, is there any other reason Lucario is so dominant there?

Lucario happens to be easier to KO off the top than to the sides, so the ceilings are great if you can keep 'em up. You can also uair through the ceilings and the stage seems to have close sides, which is easy for Lucario to snag KO's since our stuff tends to knock them away at 30-45 degrees.

Yoshi's Island because there's no way you're NOT coming back from being launched off the side if you're not outright KO'd and the 2nd platform is Nair city.

MK won't be killing vertically, but his dsmash sends you at like, the perfect angle to tech the ceiling from anywhere on the stage. Just word of warning. If you're caught in a nado, be sure to tech the ground and roll asap, or you're going to get owned by pseudo-pillars with nado.
