I'm continuously updating the three lists whenever there's new information or when old information needs to be adjusted. I have all of this backed up in a text file.

So dumb thought;
what if there was a Ridley mode in a 2D Metroid game? He could demolish Morphball tunnels, use plasma breath and tail whips to destroy certain blocks and destroy doors...

Made a mockup of 8 player Smash, featuring 7 Ridleys vs 1 Samus on Battlefield.

Like how Kirby is making villains playable? The additional playable character modes in Kirby work because the other characters tend to have a common goal with Kirby (they're anti-heroes really, not straight up villains), they play like variations of existing copy abilities, and it's a very cartoony universe with very thin lore to adhere to. I feel like the Metroid games would lose a lot of appeal if you replace Samus with any character, her weaponry and upgrading it is such a big part of what makes the games so fun to play, the worlds tend to be designed specifically to test your mastery of Samus' entire arsenal, and not just the nearest copy ability like in Kirby (of which the other playable characters always have equivalents of). I also don't feel like Metroid is as flexible as Kirby in what you could make believable, it's really hard to pass off a playable Ridley mode as something that would make sense in the Metroid universe. Like, what kind of premise could ever make it work? Can you make a smaller Ridley look natural in the Metroid environment? What powerups that could realistically substitute some of Samus' would make sense for Ridley to not have from the start (flying, tail attacks), and could they gate the game in the same way? And most importantly, would Ridley even be fun to play as within Metroid's framework?

A large part of why I want more villains in Smash is because it's hard to pass them off as being playable in their own series, so for a lot of villains it's their only opportunity to be playable in any form. In Smash anything is believable, it's got a far less strict ruleset as it's effectively a spinoff series, and with it being completely non-canon none of what it does actually matters to the core series. It's also the best place for any NPC to be playable given how free its gameplay is and how much emphasis it puts on nailing the feel of its characters, even for someone like Bowser, who's playable in a ton of spin-offs, Smash gives us the best playable incarnation of him, it truly feels like playing as Bowser as he's not glued to a go-kart, tennis racket or turn-based combat. Of course Smash does still have its rules, which is why we're still here, but it has nothing to do with breaking the series' believability or messing with its framework.

Sorry if I ended up rambling a bit btw, my intention with this post isn't to slam on the idea, by making me think through these kind of things it's actually a good question.

I don't think Zero and Dark Matter could become playable in a kirby game, it wouldn't made any sense that an emotionless entity that wants to possess and consume the universe would team up with Kirby.

Even though I agree with you, I don't think the prospect of having Ridley being playable in a Metroid game is entirely impossible. Unlikely, yes, but I can see it being something the development team might consider since the character is so popular among the fanbase.

Now if the development team were to tackle a playable Ridley by having him go through areas specifically designed for Samus, then yeah, I'd have to agree with you and say that I doubt it would work out very well. However, if there was a part of the game made specifically for Ridley, or better yet, an entirely separate mode made specifically for Ridley, I might be inclined to believe it could work without feeling too forced. It seems like a mode focusing on swarms of enemies would work well, and I could even see Ridley being able to fire larger, more powerful projectiles in a vein similar to Samus.

Again, its not likely, but the idea could work. The potential is definitely there.

Reminds me of some fan-made flash games I’ve seen of either his M1 sprite or Super Metroid sprite being controllable... It could work I guess, though don’t really see it happening officially for some of the reasons pointed out. For a fully fleshed out mode/game, a power-up/upgrade system for Ridley would probably be the hardest part to come up with, but not impossible.

As it is, may be easiest to just have him playable in an alternate multiplayer versus mode, if multiplayer for Metroid ever expands beyond just other hunters or generic space marines, but given the series’ track record for multiplayer, it wouldn’t be a top priority for me.

3 play as Samus/Bounty hunters, 1 play as Ridley.
A good old 3 vs 1... or 10 vs 1... or 24 vs 1... depends on how strong that Ridley would be.

That or assuming Sylux is final boss of Metroid 4 it be cool after defeating him he makes for an escape into space with his ship then you use some ancient magic goofy alien whatever to take control over Ridley's body to make chase. Then once you catch him and tear his ship apart we can all enjoy Sylux being snapped in half like a twig.

Frankly, i've wanted an action game like DMC for Ridley for years. Comboing GF soldiers and other aliens just sounds fun. I mean he's a dragon with a weaponized tail. Im sure you can get some cool moves of that.
I know it's unrealistic

Don't you remember? Hitting Ridley enough makes him join your side. You don't need any alien stuff for that

I can only assume that they aren't actual size since I've already pointed out that Bowser's way smaller than that for my pics

Anyhow, working on a baddie lineup a la Dissidia. I should probably give Bowser eyes at some point

Back in the pre-Brawl days I actually made a move set for Ridley. I wanted him so much back then. But now, I don't know if i'd even call myself a Ridley supporter. But yes, go ahead and call me a Ridley supporter. He's not in my sig, but I would like to see him playable. The only problem, as everyone admits, is his size. He'd have to be bigger than Bowser, and that's a questionable choice...to have ANYONE that big.

im not gonna lie... over the years my biggest motivation for wanting ridley has become spite against all the too-big naysayers.

like i still want the villain rep, i still think he'd be cool, and i still think he's a worthy candidate, but more than any of that i just wanna stick it to all the people who make out like he's the size of a Star Destroyer or something and that a team of competent artists couldn't make him work if they wanted to.
