Just came to show my support of the cunning God of Death himself. He's probably my third most wanted character in smash and I've wanted him for a long time. The boss reveal was a kick in the gut but I think his chance is above 0 this time. Here's hoping.

I think Dark Samus could work, if she was handled like Wolf (but obviously less janky). Her specials would be different but derivative, have different animations, and most of her attacks would be different than Samus. Final Smash could be a transformation, like Metroid Prime or Dark Samus 4 from Echoes.

That being said, I doubt this will ever happen. DS' time has long gone. If she couldn't make it into Brawl, than she won't be making it in now.

Its actually not a leak, part of it anyway. Ryce caught wind of people talking about it on Gamefaqs and said that wht he said was just disscussion.

During the hype of the March direct, staff of the site ResetERA began to hype things up themselves. This included multiple hints that smash would appear in the direct. Obviously, this was correct. However, what is relevant to this thread is what was said by Nibel and, most importantly, Jonneh. Both are ResetERA staff and gave a few special hints of their own.

Even on twitter, we have little hints to tie things together.
EDIT: these were previously tweets about a ridley image being "too big" and then a reply "We'll get back to this," both deleted by Jonneh

It's clear to me, that this is all hinting a Ridley having a "big" role.

And before people go "but wait!" Jonneh has had a pretty good track record of late.

No. Sometimes inside info is skewed or wrong. Things like this happen. Hell, for all we know this is all one huge misunderstanding and Jonneh was never trying to hint at anything.

My suggestion: Don't get too excited. We don't know what the future holds, and I would hope Ridley fans learned their lessons after what happened with Smash For and shadow analysis.

The second rumor is from das Vergeben, who has leaked some things, but also has been wrong before. He claims it's from his source who told him Prime 4 is developed by Bamco.

Well, I think Dark Samus would be a fine addition as a semi-clone of Samus. Sylux would be a good option as well, if he has any sort of role in Prime 4.

I don't think Metroid needs anymore characters than Samus, ZSS and Ridley tbh, they represent the game just fine, any other additions would be a bit odd.

If Smash Run returns from 3DS (the one thing I still play that for), obviously all the Metroid enemies there should return (and possibly even for a new Adventure mode).

If Boss Rush returned, or a new stage boss/hazard that isn't Ridley were to happen, I'd love to see either Nightmare, Diggernaut or the Queen Metroid.

Assist Trophy-wise I think we're pretty well off with Mother Brain, Dark Samus and the Metroid itself. Though I did have the idea a while back to change the way the Metroid functions (make it the Baby Metroid, have it circle around and attack anything near, and have it siphon energy/recover health for whoever summoned it).

Pipe dream wise, I would actually love seeing another hunter (Sylux obviously being a frontrunner once MP4 comes to light, or even the Chozo at the end of SR), but obviously I'm not expecting more than 1 character unless DLC becomes a thing again. (Rodley and his brother Roidley or bust)

Hm. Vergeben has been wrong before, but he certainly can't be said to not have some credibility to his name... I'm not going to believe it for now, again, as I said, too early for me to buy any leaks, but it's something to keep in mind.

The thing with Vergeben is he allegedly has multiple sources and cuts them off if they give him false information. His Ridley source is apparently the same one which leaked that Namco Bandai is working on Metroid Prime 4, which is pretty much all but officially confirmed to be true. Additionally, the way he says "yes, really" reads to me that he's actually somewhat sincere and not doing this as a joke.

Granted, Vergeben has also been wrong in the past (namely with Soul Calibur VI), so I wouldn't take his word as gospel. He could personally believe his source but his source could be wrong/giving false information. Personally, I really don't believe him unless Ridley is confirmed at E3, but there is some validity behind his name.

Vergeben is an example of something many overlook when it comes to leakers (LKD was another example of this). These people have multiple sources, which means there are more chances of people lying, being incorrect, etc. This is why some leakers can have such mixed records, and why people like 10k from GAF/ERA get taken advantage of. So while we should take it with much salt, it's still noteworthy nonetheless.

I think Ridley being an unconventional character, while not ideal, would be interesting. He definitely has the richest Smash history of any non-playable character, so it could maybe work, assuming the mode is actually good and not trash.

Honestly, no thanks. Ridley’s been in the game as a few roles; it’s time for that role to be “playable character.” If that’s all we get...it’s something, but if Sakurai wants to keep his meal analogy, this is hoping for a steak dinner and getting bologna on toast. At the kids table.

I’ve seen other games with a “play as boss XYZ” mode, and it’s nowhere near as satisfying as having the character as an actual playable character. That may even make it more infuriating, since he’ll have a fully realized moveset, but still not be truly playable.

With all of the mods and mockups showing Ridley working at the scale of Smash bros, and Pikachu and Olimar not being less than a foot tall, this “oh, he’s only a boss” is bull.

Awhile back I've actually been thinking of a possible new mode in Smash that basically allows for playable bosses against the regular cast, which would obviously include Ridley...

Could call it Titan Smash or something...and it could be a separate mode similar to how 8-player Smash is separate from regular Smash...

Hey finally back after a long long long time won't be around as much but glad to see smash 5 is under way

now for ridley i will always want him to be playable not holding my breath as much as last time due sakurai is in a way against making ridley playable but i will never give up on ridley for smash playable

After finally feeling how boring and slow Galactus was to play as in UMvC3 (it wasn't fun at all like I thought), I can't quite entertain a playable boss mode for Ridley and such as an alternative like I may have once upon a time. The execution would have to be giving Rids as much a full moveset as any regular character for people to accept it, so like real good. Playing as a typical OP boss such as Galactus, or like Master Hand via hacks that only have a few moves gets old pretty fast...

Well just about any popular character has some kind of amateur or half-assed looking mod in Smash or whatever the game may be, but when the top quality Smash mods by Bagan and such started coming along, it only increased the popularity of the idea of him being playable with a full moveset for fans.

For one, his popularity already had downgraded by the pyroshpehre and the 50 fact extraveganza reveal. And a lot of people complained about them being too OP. . .
