this probably isnt even thread-worthy to the whole of u nerds who never do any physical activity but i dont give a efffffffffffffff

this whole saga makes me LOL with glee. oh let me count the ways:

1. above all lebron james is a pimp who has the media at his every beck and whim

2. above all lebron james, along with dwayne wade and chris bosh, made a huge sacrifice, potentially giving away millions of dollars in the name of winning and greatness. that is truly commendable.

3. point two is lost entirely in the shuffle, however, as the fickle media rushes to tear down what it created and rip him in two for leaving (LOL who couldn't see this coming?!)

4. basketball just got a whole lot more interesting

5. LOL @ all da kobe fans who feel threateend as *** by lebron

here's why lbj (and tim duncan and manu ginobili!!!) is my favorite player in the NBA:

Seven seconds to go, Miami Heat ball, half court, timeout. What happens? The game's tied. Who is getting the ball?
LBJ: Well, I think that's for coach. Coach Spoelstra is going to call the best play, put the ball in the best hands of the guy that he believes is going to make that shot. And we're going to live with that.

This is not about me downgrading D-Wade or D-Wade downgrading Bosh. We'll lift each other up. At that point in time, if DWade get the shot and he nail it, we're going to be with him. If he miss it, we're going to be with him. Same with Bosh. If he make it, we're going to be with him and move on to the next one. If he miss, the same way.

Or if I have the ball and I see someone open, like I've done plenty of times, if I draw two defenders and I kick it to a guy, he has to nail it. And that doesn't mean it's always D-Wade or Bosh. The same with Mario Chalmers.

yeah what a douche. he made hundreds of millions off of lebron (i bet the franchise's value at least doubled, if not tripled, from where it was before LBJ's arrival to where it is now) and has the nerve to call him out for leaving? LOL. business is business.

He wrote the letter in Comic sans MS font, the greatest travesty of all

This should be exciting I can't wait to see how they play together. Still think Lakers take it all next year, but this team will be very dangerous.

the only thing i ever turn it to espn for are:

live/recorded sports (including poker)
30 on 30
playmakers (now we're taking it back to '02)

so blame yourself for sucking at life

I'm not sure why, but I have a feeling that the Heat are going to get 1st Seed, and then lose in the 2nd round or EC finals.

I know just those 3 players alone guarantee a first seed since EC is wack except for Magic (and sometimes Celtics), but it'll be hard for them to get the depth needed to really go far in playoff basketball seeing as they only have 4 players so far, and are going to into luxary tax territory once they sign Bosh, James and Wade.

But who knows, Celtics did it with Ray Allen, KG, and Pierce. And Bosh, James and Wade are a better trio then them. Though the Celtics had help with Rondo, Perkins and etc.

Hard to tell now. Lakers are still favorites now. Though I HELLA want the Thunder to have an amazing season.

I reject your assessment and will continue to blame you. I just leave espn on in the background in the absence of a better option.

The 30 for 30 about the USFL was pretty interesting.

naota it's actually the opposite because depth helps more in the regular season (82 game marathon + injuries) than in the playoffs (every round has a day off between every game, NBA finals have two and sometimes 3). lebron and wade can give you 40+ minutes a game too; since you rarely need to substitute for them that adds a lot more value.

they also signed mike miller for 5 yrs/30 million. now the biggest problem will be finding a good defensive center. i am skeptical they can accomplish that this year and will instead aim for it next year.

c - joel anthony / d-league pickups behind him (hey it worked for the warriors and anthony tolliver)
pf - bosh
sf - james
sg - wade
pg - chalmers

bench: miller, minimum veteran (anthony carter?), d-league/undrafted pickups (LOL for the most part but good management can turn this into a good thing -- check out the rockets and warriors).

doubt they win the chip next year but don't see how they don't win it non-stop after that (obv variance and such but they'll be favorites)

biggest question is will bosh be a ***** and refuse to play C? because bosh/lebron/miller/wade/chalmers is by far their best lineup

and sheridan i'm ashamed. there are a ton of very good podcasts / even better music / npr to have on as background music. or, novel concept, have silence and practice being mindful. seems like a much better alternative than being brainwashed

I always thought that talent could get you through the regular season, since teams don't really prepare as hard as they do in playoffs. In a series they'll really disect the **** out your strengths, so that's why you see stars get shut down.

But they have 3 of them, so ****.

Only the Warriors have the ability to get such gold from the D-League. Not that it matters b/c they always end up leaving/getting traded. :(

Like I said, in the absence of a better option; it just depends on what I feel like that day.

Yeah. Because nothing says physical activity like watching Basketball.

Just wanted to say that.

Either way, haven't been into the game too much, but it's getting interesting. Been playing/watching more basketball than tennis now.

miller was the mid-level exception. the MLE pays the NBA average salary (~5.8 million, always increasing due to inflation obv) and you get it every two years no matter what. so if they dont use it they can use it next year but there's otherwise no real benefit to not using it (unless ur the owner and wanna be below the tax). beasley was traded just to get enough under the cap to afford all three (who are all taking slight discounts anyway i believe; we cant know for sure until the deals are finalized).

wooooow they gave up justin smoak? gay i just traded carlos pena for him and tommy hanson

as long as they didnt give up more than smoak it's a good deal (chris davis might be a keeper; adding him asap) because lee is just so good and the value of making the playoffs is a ton AND the rangers have a boatload of great prospects so this doesnt kill them

yeah i'm pretty relieved

smoak hurts but he wasn't doing that great this year (although seeing him in the division for the next 5 years or whatever sucks)... and of course the rangers still have davis and the other guy, mitch moreland

beavan is decent but i'm not sure if he's even in the top 5 pitching prospect-wise in the system and doesn't project to a TORP anyway

the other two are just dudes

the thing i'm somewhat afraid of is if the Yankees along with Lee, sign some other bigtime FA that drops the draft pick the Rangers wll get down to a 2nd rounder

hahaha thats a good point

rangers could have new ownership in place by the offseason... signing lee would be a big commitment, but i could see it happening. of course it wont be a good deal but for 2-3 yrs anyway lee/feliz/wilson/lewis/holland/perez w/ scheppers closing? pretty sick

they're welcoming him to the 'heat' by setting his stuff on fire

ha ha ha

really though, jersey burning is a fairly common tradition in professional sports

As a guy who went to college in Cleveland for the past 5 and a half years, my facebook is currently filled with people either cheering for Lebron, and people who want him dead.

the heat can't use the MLE because they were under the cap at the onset of free agency. once heat are over the cap they are done. they can't use the bi annual exception either

With 3 max guys at roughly 17 (these are estimates , apparantly they are each taking 1-2 million pr year less than max) million each, the heat would spend 51 million. chalmers makes like 1-2 million a year I don't remember but that leaves them like 5 million to sign 9 players to fill their roster. if they sign mike miller to 5 mil a year they'll have nothing but league minimum to fill up the rest of their spots because the cap is at 58 mil. If i were them i'd get a bunch of decent guys at 1-2 million each rather than sign garbage to fill the spots after they got miller.

mike miller is 3 times better than beasley. the guy can rebound, he can pass, and he can shoot the 3 with amazing accuracy. beasley is an inconsitent scorer who loses confidence when people make fun of him. Heat were smart to ship him.

ya i know semantics but i googled it and it doesnt matter if you were under at the start. you can use it once a year whether the signing would put you over or you're already over. and you can spread it out to multiple players too.

so if all 3 are taking slightly less than max then they could sign miller with cap space and get 1-3 players with the mle. they might have the bi-annual exception but i dunno if they used it last year; im assumingg they did since i figure i wouldve read someone mentioning it by now.

Yes, you can use the MLE if you are completely over the cap. But the Heat were UNDER the cap when the off season started, so they can't use the MLE. MLE is only for teams over the cap when the off season starts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Salary_Cap

MLE is only available to "any team that exceeds the salary cap at the beginning of the off season" The heat didn't exceed it. they were under. they cannot use the MLE.

If you wan to bet 50 dollars I will bet you that they can't use it ^_^

They've spent money that is equivalent to the MLE, but they are still under the cap. The heat now have to sign players at the MINIMUM to even fill their roster. They need garbage players who are willing to take the league minimum. That isn't gonna get it done IMO. At least the celtics hired people who were good enough to make a million dollars. The heat are gonna have one starter who makes minimum money, lol

surprised i never saw this.

i def think lebron can play PF for a good 25 minutes because 1) dude's built like a rock and 2) that's the way the NBA is trending. it's LENGTH that kills in the NBA, not size. the lakers' frontline is great cause of that, not cause their post game / ferocious rebounding. and if wade is still unable to make a 3 that floor spacing is going to be vital

i was reading a bball blog and there was a study about the severe impact on eFG% if a team has two non-shooters in the lineup. donkeys in the comments were like zomg common sense what groundbreaking knowledge but take a look around depth charts and see how many teams put 2+ non-shooters on the court (sup celtics!).
