Pulling out of this debate.
And so boring too. One warning and the whole charade is over. Tsk. Not the right attitude for this place. You know smokebomb quoted your post and I can still view it in all its prettiness, right?

Always funny how I touch all kinds of nerves when I insult some kind of entertainment, but the minute someone is pushed they retort by condemning me for my taste in "boring crap". Hypocrisy goes both ways.

And so boring too. Well, if a simple warning is enough to stop you, maybe you don't belong here. Still, you know smokebomb quoted your last post and I can still view it in all its prettiness?

I do know he quoted it.

I don't condemn you for your taste in "boring crap". That's a value judgement of its entertainment value, not its value as a cultural product. There is a inherent classist statement lurking in condemnations of cultural products based on their value as cultural products. Realist novels, for example, are highly boring to me, but they are just as worthy cultural products as anything else. Likewise, superhero commentary can be exceptionally deep when done right or incredibly shallow when done wrong. No form is inherently better than any other as a cultural product.

Once you start separating cultural products based on their value as cultural products, i.e. superhero movies are inherently worse than other kinds of movies, it leaves the way open to value judgements about the people who enjoy superhero movies. Or Tolkien. Or Star Wars. Or realist novels. Or postmodern sculpture. And this then leads us into the trap of telling society how we "should" live, what we "should" watch/read/listen to.

And really, that's just the tip of the iceberg that kind of mentality can lead to. Which is why I will object to the stratification of cultural products based on their value as cultural products.

I've said my piece anyway.

A good debate never hurt anyone, @ smokebomb12 smokebomb12 . But as a grad student, I do like the idea that arguing is childish.

Thank you:) I am new here. Some guys on Twitch suggested I come and sign up
I guess I should probably just let you know that all the information you could ever need (and more than you could ever want) can be found in the stickied threads toward the top of the Link boards. If you ever have any questions or need anything at all, feel free to message me personally.

It's a Friday night for a fair few people on here. I'd imagine a lot of them are out partying.

yo u got a 3DS? cause I wanna battle a real link.
I do, but I have essay deadlines on Monday and a flat to deep clean. Ain't got no time for Sm4sh, sadly. I feel bad enough for being on the boards as is.

Siledh, Siledh, Siledh...unfortunately it seems your true colors have shown. From here you have two options.

A) Grow some thicker skin
B) Enjoy your stay on the Link boards while it lasts

It makes me laugh that Link mains think that choosing to end a debate somehow implies weakness or thin skin. I suppose that means projectile spam to zone somehow implies timidity in battle. The debate was going nowhere and I was not getting my point across anyway.

The warning merely served to show me that I was on unsure ground, if we continue the battle metaphor. Rules here are slightly different to the rules on other sites. Better to withdraw, recoup, scout the lay of the land and then return, which is what my last post on the matter did.

I cut my teeth debating religion on the internet, as a theist. This place holds no fear for me. ;)

You showed thin skin when you took things personally in the first place
I doubt that you'll believe me, fair enough, but I didn't. Someone trashing Avengers, Tolkien or whatever isn't going to get me upset. I simply have a big issue with cultural elitism because it is at the heart of pretty much any kind of prejudice you can name. That and cultural elitism pretty much ignores most research about culture, but that's more of a professional thing.

"Arguments" in the Link boards are just lame now, they're supposed to be funny. This was a little too...serious.

Just to note, I laughed zero times, shame on both of you.

Also it's finals week, so I doubt anyone is partying...

Trufax, although the frat/sorority near me clearly didn't get that memo. Although this week is apparently known as "dead week" at my university, so maybe there's something I'm missing. I'm new to this whole American education system anyway. Bah-humbug, when I was young, etc. and all that jazz. *shakes cane vigorously until joints stiffen*

I actually just finished finals this week (am I like the only here who has?) so it looks like I'll be doing a whole lot of nothing until everyone else gets off.

On a side note though, while I really only play Link as a tertiary now, I was wanting to see if I can get some matches in with you guys online. I'd like to better my fundamentals/reading ability/mix-ups so I can stay consistent with this sort of thing rather than my playstyle constantly shifting left and right due to my mindset.

I finished my last finals week in 2004. I've been partying for the past ten years as I work from home and make a ****load of money. Stay in school, kids

VDF has a valid point. It's just a very trite one. I've heard it a million times. Superhero films, reality television, war porn, blah blah blah.

Just like what you like. Maybe what you like is destroying civilization but **** it. You like it. So like it. Just make sure you like it as much as you like showering and finishing school.

Really there was a simple manner of dismissing the "cultural elitism" one implied from that argument.
"Don't feed the troll"
1: You say nothing of his "distaste" for Tolkein, he doesn't go on about it, OR 2: You continue to talk about what you like in super hero movies, and he plays the part of a Pomeranian nipping at the ankles of giants. Commenting on dissent only lowers oneself to the equivalent level of Gnat unworthy of the time spent typing retorts.

To follow up on what Fox said earlier, stickies cover important info, Mu threads cover matchup discussion, Social handles everything else. Just try not to take ANYTHING said by ANYONE to seriously and you'll do just fine.

[EDIT:] I cast my official nomination for Lawz. as top candidate for Modship. Not only is he respected in the annals of Link history, but he is of the perfect mindset to disarm and redirect conflict and has shown his maturity in spades for the last few weeks.
The only prerequisite missing is his weekly pledge of devotion to Linkdom and all that is Green tunic'ed and holy, but I'm sure that will come along in due time... say around the time Link becomes a viable tournament pick again?

Srsly though, provided that Lawz doesn't mind the extra work, I vote him to be next mod

Well thanks Zane, much appreciated. Now that summer vacation is basically here, I can play more. Actually I'll have time to do anything in general really...

Tolerance is always a good trait. There are a lot of things I don't like but if they're not hurting anyone I try not to complain.

OT but I'm having trouble getting the challenge 'get 300000 points in lv 3 target blast with Pacman by bouncing one bomb off the back wall. Any strategies or tips?

I'm having issues with my Sm4sh. It feels slow, as if it had lag in offline mode.

The game lags if there's too much c*** onscreen. This shouldn't happen except with 8 player games on huge stages with items. I run into lag in 1 player mode sometimes.

I've been trying to get all the challenges and am on the 'Clear Kirby's Crazy Appetite on Hard' event. It's times like this that I am reminded of Sakurai's sick sense of humor.
Sakurai:
"Wouldn't it be fun to put Kirby in a huge stage full of off screen instant death traps with 140% damage? You know what would make it even more fun? Speed up the animation, add 7 King DDDs to troll, have the food and mine carts spawn randomly, give it a 2 minute time limit and make some chests explode for no reason! That way even if the player practices and learns all the spawn locations there still is a huge luck element that can screw them over; then the player will have to try again for even more fun!"
