have you ever played a level 9 and wanted to see how many times you could KO them before you died? ever wanted a disadvantage while playing a n00b to prove you can waste them? what if you could choose how many lives each player had, kinda like in 1-P (where you have 3, 4, 5, and they have 1, but without limits)
cool? gay? pointless? 7?

In fact, I wonder why it wasn't in SSBM in the first place. It would make playing against my father so much more rewarding than stupid old handicap.

People already do this, they set the match to 6-7 stocks than suicide to give the person more stocks... its so simple to do I dont see the point programming a mode for it, but if it was there I wouldnt complain.

Ya, good idea. Not to mention, playing with handicaps I consider dangerous- like playing with CPUs. Both get you acustomed to something unrealistic. Playing CPUs too often leads to predictability yourself, and expecting your opponents to do certain things. Playing with handicaps makes you get used to certain strats made easier by the handicap (like chain-throwing).

Not to mention that handicap has a really strange way of making you stronger. Bowser is broken with a higher handicap because his >B and sometimes dash attack and 'Fortress can often kill even at 0%.
Other behavior also seems different ( from what I observed ), such as reduced hitstun and maybe altered trajectory that almost ALWAYS allows the higher-handicapped to recover because they get hit so high.
So yeah. The actual handicap function is useless for training.

Eh, does anyone really care about the record? But it's still unnecessarily inconvenient to do it like that... plus, it's kind of embarrassing. I mean, it's one thing to activate a feature to give one player an advantage, maybe turning it into a challenge like "how often can I kill you!"... and another to be the weaker player and watch the other guy continuously suicide to give you a BIT of a chance.
And from a practical standpoint, a challenge like I described above would require a lot of stock... SDing so many times would just be impractical.

I always liked this idea, a lot of players in my area I met up with don't know anything about the game. I'm not one for talk-actions work better. And nothing is better than having 1 stock, they have more, and you win. That way they can't talk about "unfair play" if they had more stock than you. Of course, they'll still have an excuse, most people I know are mature enough to accept any type of loss, so it's good anyway.
I like the idea, I don't see why they'd make a whole new mode for it. It could be in the normal mode, and you just activiate it when you want to, no need for a whole new mode for something so simple. I guess you can SD to get the same thing across, but this feature won't hurt anything, I always agreed with the idea...never mentioned it 'till now, it's a fun idea.

I would agree that it wouldn't hurt to put a simple stock tweakage in, I mean if a player could use this in almost every vs. mode without making a player look foolish for suiciding themself

It's nice and simple, I don't see anything wrong with it. I'd probably need it since people complain about the dumbest things "You surprised me when you attacked me at 1 stock! NO FAIR!".
