I remember reading somewhere that there was originally going to be 3, and then they increased the number to 5 or 6 I think?

But who knows... I really doubt there will only be Sonic and Snake, because Sakurai himself said that after Snake, there would be 2-3 more 3rd party characters announced.

And I hope the last third party character is Megaman.

If him and Zero are in, then all of my childhood heroes will be in Brawl.

You do know your basis for third party rest on a statement made over a year and a half ago and Sakurai used the word "tentatively" in that statement. However, according to a recently released Korean Article, Sakurai confirmed many more third parties.

With update today, I think it has been basically confirmed that some first, second, and third parties could even be represented by an at or stage only. There is no telling what all we will get in Brawl.

We may already have the starting lineup... Sakurai may release maybe 2 more characters in the starting lineup between now in 15th (maybe Captain Falcon).

I know I am going to get flamed like a madman for saying this because Sakurai has an article early on that says otherwise, but I think Sonic is a starter due to his appearance already in the demo and his popularity. I know Sakurai said no third party starters, but he said a lot of stuff he later changed (like only 2 ways of control or the fact that Brawl will be released December 3rd).

I have a feeling he makes it, too much support and his moves work well with the game.

I actually have a theory (just theory) of an example of a third-party minus a character that might make the game.

EA Sports is tremendously popular around the world with games like Madden and Tiger Woods Golf. EA Sports is starting to release exclusives for Wii only and is getting closer to Nintendo then Sony and Microsoft (in the past EA seemed to favor the latter two). I would not be suprised to see a Tiger Woods Golf Stage or an NFL Football Stadium appear as a stage and that is it. There is no limit to the crazyness of appearances that could be in brawl.

Top Three likely Third-Party Characters (with reasoning):

1) Megaman. It is his 20th anniversary this year, the 17th of this month and it would make a big hit with the fans if he was included. This is not to mention he has been in alot of Nintendo titles, and wouldn't be a stranger to the system.

2) Bomberman. Hudson, the company who owns Bomberman, has been working closely with Nintendo through various Mario Party games and other nintendo titles.

3) Geno. Geno, the famous doll from the Super Mario RPG. His fanbase is actually huge, and he, Diddy Kong, and Ridley tied for second on the recommended list. His moves would go great with the game, and for Square Enix, this wouldn't be their first game on a Nintendo console.

I know Donkey Kong is a Nintendo character. Miyamoto made him up, but what about Diddy Kong Racing and stuff like that. Is every character in that game besides Diddy third party? I mean, Conker and Banjo originated in that game.

No, and I don't few people around me now who he/she is. I am more of a smash fan then a video game fan and I am very old school.

Systems I owned: NES, SEGA Genesis, SEGA Game Gear, (great time lapse), Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo Wii

I only owned 5 systems, I went Computer after Genesis mostly played Civilization games, Sim games, Blizzard games(Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo), Age of Empire games, and Doom series.

I did not know who Captain Falcon, Ness, Marth, Roy, or any of the names of the Pokemon until I got Melee. I am learning by listening to everyone. I also got a SNES emulator and played Earthbound and other games on it to try out.

I grew up with the original two LoZ, the original 3 Marios, Kirby's Adventures, Megaman 1-3, and Sonic series.

My favorite game all time is Mario Brothers 3

My favorite series may be Sonic actually (at least the old ones).

However, not a lot of people who even are big on games now know who Sora is. I probably heard of the game he/she is in though if you told me. (I only knew who Geno was from this board, although I have played Mario RPG since I have been on here).

If we get a character from Microsoft, it'd be this one. We got ourselves a Sony character already (Snake), so a Microsoft character isn't COMPLETELY unimaginable, however unlikely it is.

Microsoft owns Rare, and all of the characters from their original titles (ie no DK characters, as DK was originally Nintendo's brainchild).
