IMPORTANT-Lan only has four tv's so to help the matches go by quicker and have room for friendlies it would be much appreciated if anybody who could possibly bring setups please do! I didn't even think about it until S. Link said something and i'm going to try to talk my friends into bringing as much as poosible too.

@Everybody- There are going to be a lot of local noobs from the surrounding neighborhood so it's pretty safe to say the prize money will be (just a guess) close to $150-$200 because the last tourney gave $100 to the winner and that was with just the noobs and a barely even a handful of good people, with the smashboards hype i think it will be more (can't be sure though b/c i think lan-matrix takes a cut). Lan-Matrix also has drinks and snacks and stuff for sale, is connected to a strip mall with a bunch of food places, and there's a gas station across the street for all your junk food needs

I talked to a dude named Shikami and told him about the date, but I guess it's a no go for being changed. Anyway, good luck man!!

Lance- Prepayed doubles would be $10 ($5 each), regular would be $20 ($10 each). That is if you dont want the discount for not prepaying. Double prize money is usually 70/30 (as I have seen it.)

For more info on LAN, they have snacks and drinks you can buy. If you want to use a computer you have to sign up. It is $5 per hour you buy and when you first sign up you get one hour free.

If you need more gamecubes, I can bring mine.

And if someone is going to prepay, will you prepay for me if I swear on my life I will pay you back? I do not have a credit card or anyway to make it to LAN.

Ok, who jumped the gun? That date is tentative, so there is nothing final yet. Smashter Marth and myself were to be running the tournament, so I don't know why this thread is being made ahead of time. Here is the tournament information in it's entirety

Location
Lan Matrix - http://www.lan-matrix.com
1890 Berryhill Rd (Memphis/Wolfchase area)
Cordova, TN 38016
(901) 507-0176

SINGLES ONLY TOURNAMENT

- 4 Stock / 8 min time limit
- Double Elimination
- Matches are best of 3 (Finals are best of 5)
- All items are turned OFF

Other Rules & Special Issues

- Any unnecessary pausing of the game will result in a forfeit of that single game.
- Glitches used to stop your opponent from controlling their character or indefinitely freezing them (Mewtwo's Soul Stunner, the Ice Climber freeze glitch), or any glitch or trick that freezes the game or makes it in any way unfinishable are banned and will result in the immediate forfeit of the entire match.
- Tactics such as Peach's Wallbombing and Jiggly's Rising Pound are allowed as methods of recovery or to maneuver around the stage. Using them (or any similar tactics) to excessively stall a match, such as droping below levels intentionally and stalling underneath, is banned. If by using one of these tactics, you have put your character in a place to lose a stock by ending the tactic, a judge may force you to stop the tactic and lose a stock.

Controllers

- You are responsible for bringing your own controller.
- Controller mods of ANY kind (short-hop mod, L-trigger mod, etc), except for cosmetic changes (paint job, different colored plastic), are banned. Tournament staff may randomly inspect any controller at their discretion. If you are caught using a banned controller you will be immediately disqualified from the tournament.
- Turbo or programmed buttons of any kind are banned. You may use third party controllers or pads that have these features, but if you are suspected of using the banned features you will not be allowed to use that controller any longer.

THE TOURNAMENT WILL BE HELD ON FEBRUARY 11TH - BYOC!

@Shikami: I am one of Smashter Marth's crew members that wont be able to attend on the 18th. I would love for it to be on the 11th, so I would like to pre-register before the 8th. But, if there are not enough people signed up by the 8th, and the tournament will be held on the 18th, would I get my money back? I know that 5 bucks isnt that much to lose, but to a broke fool like me it is. haha. I was just wondering. ^___^

@Shikami-Umm...I talked to an employee at Lan-matrix and he said that they (lan-matrix) were hosting a tournament. So, if you work there and you are the one that's holding it and i "jumped the gun" then i apologize but i'm posting what an employee told me, not about your tournament. I'll call the dude that works there again and if he tells me diff. i'll change my original post. Sorry that you thought i was infringing on your tournament or something but it's not even like that.

Absolutely not Lance. It was probably the new guy working there that told you this, so don't worry about it. I don't see why he considers it as Lan Matrix hosting the tournament. They are the venue for the tournament, but I try as much as possible to bring business to that place, primarily in the form of console game tournaments because of the lack of it there. I've already hosted several H2 tournaments, which went fairly well. Weekly CS tournaments are second-rate and get old hella fast, plus most hardcore gamers in the area prefer console games over PC. I do appreciate your apology, but you didn't have to since I don't work there. I'm not one to make hasty assumptions like that, so don't worry about it ^_^

@ Smashter Link: Of course you'll get your money back. Though if you gave it to Lan Matrix I guarantee they would keep it ;)

Awesome then. I will try and get up there this weekend and prepay. I am sure that there will be at least nine of us that will prepay. We just have to get 11 more people to prepay. I really want to go, but the 18th is a no go. So hopefully enough people will preregister.

Update

:link:

@Shikami- I called yesterday and talked to a guy named Josh. Apparently I spoke with a kid that just started working there :) Got everything staight though-You also might want to know that last time i went to a lan tourney it wasn't best 2/3 and Josh said that they were doing levels "like we did it last time" so i don't know how the levels were last time but about 2 years ago when they had the first smash tourney it was weird. I don't really remember exactly how they did it so you might want to talk to him and see if it's ok to do the stages MLG style. He did say he was waiting on an e-mail from you though.

@Pwn Zone- there is a chance if there are enough people that want to do it (says the new guy so take that with a grain of salt).

@Everybody- please try to pre-pay if you can because they need a certain number to even have the tourney. I'm sure if i talked to them and guaranteed a bunch of people to show they might make an exception but that's not the point. ;)

Hey, I was there when Josh was first setting up the tournament, he wanted to set it up Like MLG But last time, some noobs were confused about the rules so some matches were done with like the winner picking the next stage or whatnot, but hopefully if I can contact Josh maybe we can set it up like Innsomnia and create pools. Or would you guys prefer to keep it like it is?

Nah. The rules should be MLG style. That is how just about every tournament is held. The rules arent hard to understand, so if there are people who dont get it, someone can explain it to them. Winner picking the stage? Well that doesnt seem fair at all!!! HAHAHAHA

I agree that it should be MLG stlye, maybe (ripping off of MLG) someone should print off a rules packet like they did at MLG...it had a very clear list of rules and listed all the allowed stages and everything. MLG was my first major tournament and i was confused about the rules so it helped me alot.

@Smashter Link-Me and Dennis were at work last night and mentioned the Lan tourney and it just so happens that the guy i was making a milkshake for is part of a "wavedash free crew" in memphis...the syndicate/7 is gonna have to show them the error of there ways...plus he uses ness so Zero has to show that fool what's up. I got his number and i'm going to let him know way ahead of time when it's going to be so him and his crew can show up....I have a feeling this is going to be the biggest tournament lan-matrix has ever seen thanks to smashboards.

@Kyo- I'm pretty sure Shikami will work it out. Thnx tho :)

@ PwnZone: No, there just wouldn't be enough time for a doubles. However, the next one I hold (after Little Rock) will probably include doubles, so look for that.

@ Lance: He probably assummed I was the same person holding the tournament as last time, and since I didn't e-mail him yet with details, he just told you it would be like last time. Generally it will be, with some minor changes. I got a reply from him, so everything is a-go. Btw, my name looks sexy by those bumpers :chuckle: Thanks for that.

PS: All of my Smash tournies at Lan Matrix will be MLG rules generally, though not as detailed due to the lesser "tone" of the tournaments so-to-speak. The things I leave out of them are minor, so it's really no different at all. I will have a printed rules packet on-hand at the tournament so there is no confusion. When we aren't playing, Smashter Marth and myself will make sure every rule is enforced, though when we are, then I'll have some other people keep watch and make sure there are no infringments.

I need to get up to Lan Matrix and pre-register. I'm getting excited about this though, I'm too impatient I guess. How many people attended the last Lan Matrix tourney?

EDIT - any tournament without doubles is no friend of mine.

@ JC: You have to understand that this is only until these tournaments start getting bigger, and they will. Once we start getting like 40 people minimum per tourney, doubles will be included. I hear you about the whole "subscription" deal, because alot of lan centers do that. However, I guarantee that you will get money for this. The pot will probably be somewhere along the lines of 75% of the income, so you'll get roughly 53% of the entire income if you get first place (70% of the pot)

@ Smashter Marth: You can contact me on AIM to sign up later today. Btw, about 25 people attended the last tourney, and that was without a post on Smashboards ;) I'm hoping to make the next tournament I hold at about 50 participants so we can start the tourney a bit earlier and include a doubles part.

@Smashter Marth-I'm going to work out in that area today so i might be able to prepay for you (if you're not working that party that day) and a couple others in our crew. As for everybody else, no offense but don't ask me to prepay for you if i don't know you personally.

@Shikami-you talked to the people at lan-matrix yet?

@ Lance: I already said I did so in my previous post. Josh received the e-mail several days ago and said everything is set for the tournament. He will inform me once the 20 player limit has been reached for pre-registration. Btw, do you have an AIM s/n? If so, feel free to discuss the tournament more with me there. AIM - Shikami EX.

@shikami- i don't have aim, sorry. If you can try and tell Josh that even if 20 people aren't prepaid there will still be a lot of people there

@everyone-as of right now it's supposed to be on the 18th but it's not concrete. Also, just because the last one only had 15 people, that doesn't mean this one is gonna be small. Smashboards is letting a lot more people know about it. I can name about 15 people within a 10 mile radius of me and i don't even live that close to lan matrix. That doesn't count the noobs that live in the neighborhood around it that only act as pot fillers.

@Iori + Kyo-There's gonna be serious competition at this one. period.

Ya, I really need to know when it is. My parents need to "discuss" it, so Im thinking the closer it gets to the 11th chances get slimmer, but maybe that is just me looking on the dark side of things....

I really hope the date being so close doesn't drop attendance due to people not knowing for sure when the date was, maybe next time it should have a concrete date from the beginning, i'm just lucky i'm off of work this sat. cause i already took off for the 18th.

Hopefully those that originally thought it was the 18th are frequently checking this thread to see what's up, so, I have a feeling the changing of dates won't be bad, or so I hope. Either way, it's gonna' be fun.
