I've been listening to a lot of video game music lately and decided to share with you my favorites.
20. Stone Tower Temple - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
I love the vibes that this track gives off. The choir, the drums, and the flute are all used well in it. It just gives off an "echo" feel, as if the music is coming from much deeper in the tower, echoing off the walls. It also has a distinct tribal sound, which I love.
19. Green Greens - Kirby's Dream Land
This track is so peppy and cheery, fitting for a Kirby game, and it's really memorable. It just made me want to hum it uncontrollably. It's just so... happy. It really will pick you up if you're in a slump.
18. Dracula's Castle - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
SotN had some great tracks, and this is my favorite. It has a great mix of keyboard, guitar, drum, and that really cool sounding high-pitched noise that sounds like a wind chime. The aforementioned noise part is my favorite part of the track, as it kinda gives off a "night" vibe.
17. We're the Robots - Mega Man 9
I've always loved the Wily Castle tracks, but MM9's Wily Castle 2 is one of my favorites. Almost every second of it screams epic. It has that "you've completed the first trial but there's much more to come" feel, if you know what I mean. It is also pumps you up, encouraging you to keep on chugging and blasting enemies to bits.
16. Liberi Fatali - Final Fantasy VIII
The chorus, plus the epic "impending doom" orchestra makes this track truly amazing. It's perfect for a boss fight of epic proportions. Or maybe just a montage of **** going down.
15. Bowser's Rage - Paper Mario
Bowser's Rage exudes everything powerful and epic about the king of Koopas. The guitar plus drums and organ are all kinds of cool. Personally, this should play every time Bowser goes into "RAWR >=|" mode.
14. Song of Storms - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Song of Storms actually makes me kinda sad, because of the dreary tune of the accordion but actually fearful at the same time... which is exactly how a large storm makes me feel. The Song of Storms exudes the feel of the storm itself: out of control, windy, and powerful. It is also the one that I hum the most.
13. Team Rocket Hideout - Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal Versions
This theme is really ******, perfect for Team Rocket. The way it rises and falls really makes me jumpy, but that's what I love about it. Plus, like many of the other tracks in this blog, it's extremely catchy and easy to hum for the rest of the day.
12. Bloody Tears - Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
While there have been many Bloody Tears in Castlevania games, this one is my absolute favorite. Why? I'm not sure. Maybe it's the high pitch. Maybe it's the epic guitar. It is really fast-paced and epic, though.
11. Against the Pressure (Wily Stage 2) - Mega Man 10
I actually prefer this Wily Stage 2 to MM9's. It has all the qualities I described earlier, but I feel it's more "go Megaman, whomp Wily" than We're the Robots. The opening reminds me of MMX, which makes it more epic.
---The Epic Line---
(any music after this line can simply be summed up with "Epic.")
10. Forbidden Land Eureka - Final Fantasy III
9. Final Battle - Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
8. Dark Beast Ganon - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
7. Final Battle - Super Mario Galaxy
6. Final Battle - Final Fantasy III
5. Pokey Means Business - Earthbound
4. Champion Lance Battle - Pokemon Heartgold and Soulsilver
---End of Epic Line---
(these last three tracks need more elaboration)
3. Ballad of the Wind Fish - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Ballad of the Wind Fish is an emotional but amazing track. The tune just gets to my heart... it's more of a lament to me than a ballad. It's kinda sad, the tune. It's also kind of hope-inspiring at the same time. Like, there's a brighter tomorrow coming...
I get too emotionally involved with this **** when I do it at 5:00 AM.
2. 0² - Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
This track is so amazing, jaw-dropping, and, yes, EPIC. But, like the previous, it's also sad... very sad. 0² can only feel negative emotions. This is a true lament... but the epicness it exudes is amazing. It's the perfect final boss music, bar none.
1. Always - Robot Unicorn Attack
HARMONY HARMONY OOOOH LOVEEEEE
