Also, for anyone playing around with colors, I have a few suggestions I haven't seen yet:

--Classic K. Rool (darker green skin, gold belly, red cape)
--Cartoon Klump (swampy green skin, yellow belly, green crown/cape)
--Cartoon Krusha (mid-light blue skin, light blue belly, pale or camo crown, camo or green cape)
--Kaptain Skurvy (dirty orange skin, lighter orange belly, black crown/cape)

Uhg, I can't do the hat. This is probably the best I can get it, I don't have Photoshop so this is too difficult.

Maybe someone else can pick up where I left off, or maybe someone will do their own and make it way better.

Maybe have colors based on DKC bosses?

Queen B., Oil Drum and Master Necky colors would make good palette swaps.
Maybe Oil Drum's face could even appear on the belly armor, like the Mr. Saturn swap for Ness.

Definitely liking the darker colors. I would be fine with either, but PAON design with Rare colors seems like a perfect blend.

I'll be honest: I can empathize with those who find K. Rool's appearance unappealing. I don't really like Rare's approach to character design in some ways. It's not bad, just not my cup of tea. The googly-eyed humanoid animals come off as a bit grotesque and unintentionally juvenile to me, but I must admit they do have a certain charm, especially the grittier designs from DKC and Battletoads. I liked their SNES character designs best, so K. Rool's appearance doesn't bother me much. Some people may not like him though, and I get that. I have a general dislike for anime-based character design, so I've found myself finding characters unappealing because of their designs as well. I would never not support a character's inclusion in Smash if I thought they were fitting, though, regardless of their design.

My only issue with Rare's design philosophy, particularly with regards to Banjo-Kazooie:

Why the hell does everything have eyes?!

Anime-style characters are usually my favourites, mind you, I really appreciate that awesome, stylish art form.

I just wanted to see how a scaled-down K. Rool would look compared to the Kongs, considering he's always been a good bit bigger than even Donkey. Looks pretty good to me here. They fit together so well.
