Both were probably planned before the Ballot. We are still going to see at least one character from the Ballot. I think Ryu is an interesting choice and Roy was wanted and is quicker to make due to his clone statues. We still have many supporters and the King has not been affected much by this.

Earlier I was a bit struck by the "leak news" but I'm okay with it now : ) These characters if going to be in, were definitely planned pre-preemptively to April 1st. All in all I'm totally fine if the characters get in and am super excited to play DK64 tomorrow! It's pretty easy to say K. Rool's chances are not slimmer and if they were, what can we do right? Not worrying about what we can't control is key.

Smash Brothers is a celebration of Nintendo's family (characters) and history, it is not about gaming as a whole. Pacman, Snake, Sonic, and Megaman all have to do with Nintendo, that is why we have not seen Master Chief, Cole (Infamous series) or Kratos in Smash Brothers.

It's not supposed to celebrate gaming as a whole. It's supposed to celebrate Nintendo. Blah blah blah "but they added Snake" blah blah blah. Maybe that's why he's no longer in the game. I don't think Ryu is a horrible addition, but first party favorites like K. Rool and Isaac should take priority no matter what. It feels like they're cheapening what made Smash Bros. so special in the first place.

That's the spirit. Ya know...if Nintendo wants to throw Ryu "THE Street Fighter" into Smash Bros and he has nothing to do with our voting LET THEM. Give us an Xbox character while your at it . And I am damn serious. I mean Banjo is an Xbox character right??? So would we freak out if Banjo got in? NO! I know it seems rather abrupt, this adding famous characters from everywhere type of thing, BUT Sakurai did say the following in an interview shortly after the reveal of Pac-Man: “I’m aiming to make this the number one character game in the world.” Adding Ryu makes perfect sense in this aspect as well as financially.

Disappointment that it's Roy we're getting presumably before Wolf aside, the one worry to take away is that less development time may be allocated toward ballot newcomers than toward these...others. That might or might not happen, but in the case that it does, it's our job to make sure K. Rool's the one standing atop the heap when the final vote tally is conducted. So basically, go out and find more people to get votes in (or whatever other tactic, if you so choose).

If it's any consolation, perhaps Roy is the red(-haired) meat that's being thrown to the mythical "casual voters" always referenced in relation to why we're all "so wrong about K. Rool doing well because a kajillion bazillion other voters are casual." That way, when a less memetic, more "hardcore" character like K. Rool gets in off the ballot, there's no outcry about "where's muh boy?!?!?" or "I wanted t3h ph1r3!!!!"

I'm against Ryu because I find him boring, both as a character and as a third party addition, and wish the time that went to develop him was used on a Nintendo character, a fan favorite, or both. I'm perfectly open to being proven wrong and perhaps Ryu will be a very interesting character in the game, but I'm not optimistic.

They are saving the best for last. We are all in for many more surprises I think. How can we NOT get a new DK character is what I am assuming. We HAVE to at this point. DK is too important of a franchise for that to not happen. DLC is the reason we haven't "YET". I bet anything.
