Only if the Wii U gets Street Fighter V and all of its extra editions does it make sense to add Ryu in SSB4. This would only make sense to me as a marketing ploy.I mean if we were going to have a completely brand new character, I'd rather it be someone who lots of people actually want, y'know? Why Ryu over someone like K. Rool or Isaac? It's just so random and nonsensical.

I still get the feeling that we might wind up with a Nintendo VS Capcom game on wii-u, wouldn't be the first VS exclusive game on Nintendo, great potential, and they could use a modified version of Street Fighter 4 engineOnly if the Wii U gets Street Fighter V and all of its extra editions does it make sense to add Ryu in SSB4. So is Master Chief.Because Ryu is from one of the biggest fighting game franchises in the world.
So is Master Chief.
And Goku is from the biggest animu in the world.
The only reason Ryu would weasel his way in for is due to Capcom being corporate and wanting a character actually making them money, given they've been going out of their way to slander Megaman.
Hopefully we get something worthwhile out of this. It is happened too often that Nintendo and its fans get screwed over from third party game releases.I still get the feeling that we might wind up with a Nintendo VS Capcom game on wii-u, wouldn't be the first VS exclusive game on Nintendo, great potential, and they could use a modified version of Street Fighter 4 engine

Smash Brothers is a celebration of Nintendo's family (characters) and history, it is not about gaming as a whole. Pacman, Snake, Sonic, and Megaman all have to do with Nintendo, that is why we have not seen Master Chief, Cole (Infamous series) or Kratos in Smash Brothers. If smash bros is suppose to celebrate gaming as a whole wouldn't it make sense to have the main face of the series that popularized the fighting game market? The same genre Smash Bros is?
It's not supposed to celebrate gaming as a whole. It's supposed to celebrate Nintendo. Blah blah blah "but they added Snake" blah blah blah. Maybe that's why he's no longer in the game. I don't think Ryu is a horrible addition, but first party favorites like K. Rool and Isaac should take priority no matter what. It feels like they're cheapening what made Smash Bros. so special in the first place. If smash bros is suppose to celebrate gaming as a whole wouldn't it make sense to have the main face of the series that popularized the fighting game market? The same genre Smash Bros is?
Yes, everyone knows how all the main Metal Gear Solid games were on nintendo system, or how Pacman started on nintendo systems.Hopefully we get something worthwhile out of this. It is happened too often that Nintendo and its fans get screwed over from third party game releases.

I find Ryu hideously boring, so... maybe? Are people seriously insulting ryu
You also need to take into account that adding Ryu opens the flood gates of Third Party characters that are allowed per company. This should only happen once 99% of the Nintendo characters are fleshed out and playable. Are people seriously insulting ryu
Do you people not understand he is pretty much the face of fighting games other than maybe scorpion (rated m anyway). Its not like SF has a history with nintendo anyway.
This is about as all star as it gets. Plus he isnt a ballot characyer so he doesnt affect anyone else. Jesus christ
Snake was a request by his creator for Sakurai. Pacman was requested by Shigeru Miyamoto and he was on the NES, SNES, and Gamecube.Yes, everyone knows how all the main Metal Gear Solid games were on nintendo system, or how Pacman started on nintendo systems.
Calm? I'll be calm, of course. I surely can. The waiting extends past E3, right? This news is rather shocking whichever way we look at it. The fact remains that we know very little about what is actually going on at Nintendo in regards to what is planned for Smash and when. As hard as it is to just be calm and simply wait, that is exactly what we need to do. Just be calm and WAIT. Keep supporting the King no matter what. If we let this little bit of information stagger us, in no way, shape or form, will we be prepared for the (hypothetically speaking) terrible news we COULD get. Just hang in there and don't lose your heads. Nothing is over. Things are only just beginning.
Exactly everyone : ) ^ On the bright side this news could mean we are getting MANY more characters OVERALL than we originally thought. And I think that's awesome. But again, nothing is confirmed. This news is rather shocking whichever way we look at it. This is DLC, this isn't taking anything away from the main game. Snake was a request by his creator for Sakurai. Pacman was requested by Shigeru Miyamoto and he was on the NES, SNES, and Gamecube.
As of now, we particularly have all the third party characters that were needed.
Now that is baffling, its like nintendo doesn't even know about the internet or how it works. What is most baffling to me is that Sakurai would put these files in the game, plain as day, months before they're even announced.
It takes away the concept of what the Smash games actually stand for. Having a multitude and over abundance of third party characters takes away from what Smash truly means as a series. This is DLC, this isn't taking anything away from the main game. If they want to add in
Unlike Snake, Pacman, Megaman and Sonic, Meatboy has done nothing with Nintendo in their life and has not worked with Nintendo. That there nullifies your point.Just because someone high up requests a character to be in smash brothers doesn't mean they are part of nintendo's family, if that was the case then I guess MeatBoy should belong in smash then.

Smash Brothers is about Nintendo's Family and History, first and foremost, where do you draw the line and say enough is enough?

Ryu being in would allow third party companies to have more than 1 character, something that devalues the importance of Third Party characters that get in.
That, or it was done on purpose. Now that is baffling, its like nintendo doesn't even know about the internet or how it works.
Correction, he had 4 games. Metal Gear, Metal gear 2, Metal Gear: ghost babel and Metal gear solid: the twin snakesSnake had 2 games on Nintendo systems up to the release of brawl. I guess that counts as a deep history then.
Ryu is the most famous fighting game character ever created. If there is another 3rd party that's worthy of appearing alongside Mario and Link, it's him.Personally it's a little disheartening that Sakurai is using precious time and resources to bring in... a third party nobody asked for?
It is not a deep history as, say, Megaman and Sonic; however, Snake had more than 2 games:Snake had 2 games on Nintendo systems up to the release of brawl. I guess that counts as a deep history then.
I believe the reason people are against Ryu is because adding him in opens the flood gates of how many characters 3rd party companies have in the game. If it is true, then where do you draw the line and say enough is enough?Ryu is the most famous fighting game character ever created. If there is another 3rd party that's worthy of appearing alongside Mario and Link, it's him.
He has nothing to do with the ballot and people should get past this illusory sense of competition. If Ryu is in, it's because of reasons wholly irrelevant to K. Rool.
That's the spirit. Ya know...if Nintendo wants to throw Ryu "THE Street Fighter" into Smash Bros and he has nothing to do with our voting LET THEM. Give us an Xbox character while your at it . And I am damn serious. I mean Banjo is an Xbox character right??? So would we freak out if Banjo got in? NO! I know it seems rather abrupt, this adding famous characters from everywhere type of thing, BUT Sakurai did say the following in an interview shortly after the reveal of Pac-Man: “I’m aiming to make this the number one character game in the world.” Adding Ryu makes perfect sense in this aspect as well as financially.Exactly everyone : ) ^ On the bright side this news could mean we are getting MANY more characters OVERALL than we originally thought. And I think that's awesome. But again, nothing is confirmed.
Well, it's not like they intended it to be hacked (though given Sakurai's trolly nature, it's hard to count out that possibility either. )What is most baffling to me is that Sakurai would put these files in the game, plain as day, months before they're even announced.
It's 2015, Nintendo should be well aware that their games are gonna get data mined.Well, it's not like they intended it to be hacked (though given Sakurai's trolly nature, it's hard to count out that possibility either. )
Not to say I personally want Roy in the game, but at least he is a Nintendo character. Let all Nintendo's franchises have playable characters and then we can think about adding more Third Party characters, especially more than 1 per Third Party company. What I don't get is by keeping so many Fire Emblem reps it implies they don't want to cut characters anymore. So in Smash 5 ina few years there will likely be another new FE character from the new 3DS game...and we're going to have 6 Fire Emblem characters in the next game.
So when does it end? Fire Emblem continually gets new reps every single game while Zelda, Metroid and Donkey Kong have been starving for new characters for a decade?
It is not a deep history as, say, Megaman and Sonic; however, Snake had more than 2 games:
Metal Gear - NES 1987
Metal Gear Solid - Though it is stated as a Virtual Console release.
Metal Gear Ghost Babel - Game Boy Color 2000
Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes - Gamecube 2004
I believe the reason people are against Ryu is because adding him in opens the flood gates of how many characters 3rd party companies have in the game. If it is true, then where do you draw the line and say enough is enough?
They are saving the best for last. We are all in for many more surprises I think. How can we NOT get a new DK character is what I am assuming. We HAVE to at this point. DK is too important of a franchise for that to not happen. DLC is the reason we haven't "YET". I bet anything. What I don't get is by keeping so many Fire Emblem reps it implies they don't want to cut characters anymore.
