Is there any reason not to believe this is the case?

Nintendo are trying to get an accurate reflection on what characters are wanted and what aren't and telling others to vote for a character multiple times or telling them you do is harmful towards that. I find it highly doubtful that we don't have people from Nintendo lurking forums such as Smashboards, NeoGAF, and GameFAQs right now. If (more like when) they figure out that there is mass vote stuffing going on, they are going to be infuriated and we don't want them looking at us as contributing to that.

See that to be sounds like Retro themselves decided it, since Miyamoto wasn't a "developer", which fits with the idea that they just wanted to make their own impression on DKC.

Shame the Tikis turned out to be such miserable replacements for K. Rool and krew.

Honestly, had we not just come off the buyout era, and K. Rool had been present in a mainline recent DK game, I wouldn't have minded the Tikis at all. Same with the Snowmads. (Although I actually like the Snowmads, even if they feel like diet Kremlings. I feel like the two would work well together.)
They asked "who should return?"

Yea it isn't unreasonable spamming for King K...for sure. The only characters I have noticed that do seemingly have a fan-base that spams votes is def Daisy and Geno...simply characters that they KNOW will have the hardest time making it into a Smash game ever. And, for us, the only thing we have a hard time doing is convincing Sakurai that King K. RoOl is a very viable and unique contender. (which is like trying to press a simple button, BUT its the hardest button on earth to press)

At this point, with the poll and all, there is probably a good amount of fans for each character doing it, but those few are the main ones like when you see Daisy on the top of a poll when every other poll suggests otherwise, it makes you seriously reconsider that poll.

Miyamoto saying he wanted Diddy and Cranky doesn't mean K. Rool was out of the question; just not something Miyamoto thought was absolutely necessary.

I don't see "we need fresh, new villains" quoted in here anywhere.

They said so in an interview around Brawl's time. I wouldn't worry regardless, the only spammers seem to be Daisy in that reddit or 4chan poll

There's reason to believe what they find on a single thread in a single site isn't going to sway them much. Unless that thread is planning some intricate mass botting or something.

And it's nice you guys want to keep a squeaky clean record but Nintendo knows every popular character (and lots of unpopular characters) are going to get voted spammed. If you guys really wanted a pristine record you wouldn't condone doing it privately either, not just for the sake of people observing threads finding something out they already knew anyway.

K. Rool isn't going to lose his standing, he's going to be the most popular, vote spam or not. There might be Nintendo lurkers here and there, but the contents of a single K. Rool thread on a single website isn't going to be the clincher in anything. I don't know how many people your "don't ask, don't tell" policy is going to fool, but do whatever you think is best I suppose.

Well I am going to be simply *worried* for the Kings inclusion in general. Not paranoid..

So everyone from this thread can just keep up the good work. I'd say I hear mostly (about 95%) good things about King K. RoOls inclusion along with Isaac and Banjo too.

Yeah, I agree. Nintendo knows that whoever fans want the most will get vote spammed. I honestly see it as kind of a good thing rather than a bad thing. Its just, some of the Kutthroats are a bit... leery that they'd deny him if Nintendo saw this. And I can't blame them for being worried. I'd feel the same way about Isaac, since both are my most wanted by far.

It's really kinda Nintendo's fault that their ballot system isn't... ideal. There should be some sort of accountability for voters.

They should have done the vote through Club Nintendo. It'd prevent people from voting multiple times, and would limit the voting to the much more hardcore Nintendo fans, who really should be the ones who decide this

The American ballot is much more prone to vote spamming, considering it only asks for your gender.

The Australian, European and Japanese polls also ask for a nickname and age, which can deter vote spamming to some extent.

Nate Bihldorff's post to NeoGAF from after Brawl was released.

Even though yeah, it's unlikely that a few isolated posts on a forum will change anything at all, it's still best for people to not openly talk about these sort of things. For all we know, Nintendo doesn't like the character much and would prefer to add another if they're given any reason to do so.
Um, acknowledging Smashboards doesn't mean they actively read through threads on the site...

As for the second part, whatever you guys feel is best. At least K. Rool has the luxury of not needing vote-spam to clean up.

Club Nintendo won't exist by the time this poll closes.

This is true... but we've been waiting so long its hard not too... *sigh*

The only other character I'd vote multiple times for is Isaac. Though I do want to vote for other characters as well like Lip, Dixie, and maybe Sami.

I had an idea for a cool dash attack: K. Rool's blunderbuss boost from DKC2. This when K. Rool takes out the blunderbuss, puts it behind him and uses it as a rocket booster. The attack would send K. Rool flying forward ramming into foes. This move would also have a rather unique sweet spot. The sweet spot pops up upon the start up of the move right behind K. Rool. It would be hard to hit with but it would be devastating.

Honestly, I don't know whether or not K.Rool is higher on my wantlist than Isaac. He's more deserving overall but I have experience with Isaac

He was the main antagonist but hasn't done anything antagonizing in years. The only characters in the roster who I truly consider to be villains are Bowser, Bowser Jr, and Ganondorf. Characters like Dedede, Wario, and Mewtwo have been evil in certain situations/mediums, but none of them have been evil consistently enough to be considered "villains" in my book

Mewtwo will always be the evil/misunderstood Pokemon to me. That is just how I like seeing him.

Talking about the Ballot something I'm wondering about is how there isn't a captcha or something to prevent bots to spam vote. It makes me wonder if votes are limited to one per IP - which would mean new votes from the same IP either are ignored or replace the precedent one. Because I find the possibility of voting multiple times without getting a mention "You already voted" AS WELL AS the lack of a captcha particularly weird I just assume that only one vote is taken into account per IP, which would mean than spam voting would be useless. Though I may be wrong on that.

It helps that both Rosalina and Greninja have actually been in games in the last five years. :p
And again we come to the point of "they're recent/relevant" instead of "They're ALL-STARS OF NINTENDO", which in my mind is what Super Smash Bros is supposed to be about from day one.

Again, nothing against Rosalina or Greninja (well, actually I dislike Rosalina, but I respect her), I just put those two as examples, but in reality I personally don't think they've done that much to deserve a playable spot in the game, while the main villain of a top seller franchise and the main character of an underrated great franchise have.

I've heard alot of people say that if you vote multiple times through the same IP, it'll overwrite your previous votes. But that's not confirmed and doesn't stop people from using public computers or changing their IP altogether. That's why I think it should work off of your Wii U account or Club Nintendo Account or something

Especially Greninja...I stopped with Pokemon after Season 2..so he was a "VERY" WTF choice to me... I may have been in the same boat as many who actually thought that Greninja's trailer was actually going to be them announcing Mewtwo...

People can still make multiple Nintendo accounts so I don't know how that would help.

I think he comes off that way a little too easily simply cause of his brutal nature of himself. Like seriously, he just seems to look like he hates everything always.

Dedede is the true hero of the franchise

Kirby: Saved Dreamland multiple time...while eating thousand of its inhabitants with a big smile and freeing by accident a lot of evil being (nightmare, eye-villain in squeek squad, etc.

Dedede: Tried to protect Dreamland from nightmare and to stop the mass murdering canibal, stole the food of all the kingdom once.

We need Metal Sonic , he would have a great move set would ba shame if he was a clone *snip*
I don't think you should advertise your character on support threads that do not support your character. In case there is none, make your own!
