Man, wanting K. Rool in Smash this bad brings me back to the days when I really wanted Bowser in it since n64, then I found out about melee and was a happy camper. Hopefully the same will happen to K. Rool.
So I'm gonna set my sights on Inkling, just because. Hype may vary. Which is also good for K. Rool because it destroys the flimsy Mii costume argument.
Unless it's like Bomberman or something. In which case, K. Rool confirmed anyway. (That one leak with Pirate Ship and Bomberman. I can dream goddamn it.)
This will be an interesting week.
That aside, I want to know (if it's actually anything*) HOW THESE PEOPLE KNOW SOMETHING THIS DETAILED.
Like seriously, what the **** is happening. (If anything.)
Remember, people will still come up with excuses as to why K. Rool won't be in, even if Inklings shatter their flimsy costume rules.
The thing I don't get is how they know the character didn't win. Is it a character that so blatantly did not win the ballot and yet is a big deal for fans? Only character I can think of under that criteria is Ridley. Or is it a character who scored highly, but had its development started before the ballot closed, therefore not being the winner?
So many questions, so few answers. For what it's worth, I did some digging and K. Rool is Sean's most-wanted character up with Banjo, according to a tweet of his, but he also contributed a great deal to the Inklings Smashified Art. It's all coming back to those two again.

Building on the above, since we know that these chaps attended a private Splatoon event before and all that, I'll theorise that perhaps they know because an upcoming game reveal makes that obvious.

I'm not really seeing that. What reason would Nintendo have to reveal a new Smash character at a private press event? I just don't buy it, I think someone inside Nintendo leaked it to a few big names who he felt wouldn't reveal the info.

It's not that the event itself was private - it's just that it was under an embargo. I'm just wondering if it could be a similar case. I'm just exploring the possibilities based on what little we do know, and we do know that they've attended press events previously.

But by that logic, any of the most requested characters are in the ballot, so this is like a "not in ballot = in the ballot" anyways.
My guess is that they had it planned already before the ballot, and they made the character within these past months, which would make sense. And for some reason, Isaac comes to mind.
This is an illogical fallacy. What character could've possibly been added who hasn't been in ANY polls? Hundreds of characters have been added in many different polls.
Not from the ballot means just that. Not a ballot pick. So even if this character was popular and/or voted for in the ballot, Nintendo was planning on adding them anyway due to overwhelming support/outcry for the character or they have had this character planned.

What do you think this means..? I'd like to hear your opinion on this tweet. Do you think it really is a hint at something or since it is just a .gif from the video he put on YT, maybe its just a laughable random joke?..
Seeing the wonderful pieces submitted by our own Kutthroats has made me want to do something to help the Kampaign in some way. While I may not be the best when it comes to drawing and sketching things, I reckon I'm quite okay when it comes to the craft of words and verse - so to that end, I've decided to write a poem in honour of our beloved Kaptain!
It's a rather different telling of the events of the DKC series, told from the perspective of both the Kremlings and the Kongs, and the meter is inspired by the Gangplank Galleon theme from the first DKC. I'd recommend having that on in the background when you read this, since it's what I had playing constantly while I wrote it.
Keep up the good work, Kutthroats!
Yo, ho, blow the kroc down
Set sail for the isle with a glint on his krown
Yo, ho, raise the black skull
Bananas for feastin' and apes to be culled
Fruit and booty's what we've got
Send the apes their warning shot
Black flag's crossbones on display
Hell of a storm is on its way
Scurvy brigands, that we be
Terrors of the seven seas
Swig a shot and cut their throats
Skin the chimps for fancy coats
Filthy no-good dirty apes
Monkey sees your jungle japes
Chase 'em down with sword and gun
Dippin' 'nanas in our rum
Shanties, bloodshed, scales and claws
Fightin' for the kroco cause
No remorse, no fear, is what we cry
Turn your tail or prepare to die
Where were you when storm turned to tempest
The shadow of the skulls and crossbones had been cast
Cold of blood and borne of fear, our home invaded
We fought, our blood turned black as the briny sea
Smoke and steel went high on the ship of hell
The demon wind cut deep, chilled to the very bone
There was salt in our blood and fire in the skies
Ape and kroc baptised in these waters of death
Caught between the devil and the deep blue sea
The storm raged on - but his rage was greater
Kaptain of the damned, king of the wretched crew
When he cried, the heavens trembled, eternal foe
With his every step, the earth split open
By his damnable command, the creatures came
Steel clashed with bone, knuckles turned white
'Til the waves themselves ran red with blood
Son and forefather, kin and kind, no lives were spared
In sacrifice of the greater good, we bore the shrapnel well
With primal roar, we beat them back, defied their flag
And their ship descended to the bitter deep
Never had his face been seen by our kind
Teeth rattling like sabers, the trigger was pulled
Chests beating the sound of war drums, it rained
A cold and deadly shower that pierced our dreams
The devil himself, eye burning with vagrant sin
Scales drowned by salt and bile, his blood ran cold
The final shot was fired, the greatest punch was thrown
Beyond good and evil, heroes and devils dreamed
The captain defeated, his crew was no more
The battle subsided, the sea reclaimed its own
No traces remained, yet here we will stay
The kroc will return - we wait for the day
Yo, ho, blow the kroc down
Chewed up in the deep from his tail to his krown
Yo, ho, the Kaptain is dead
The kredits keep on rolling

Right now I'm making a Super Mario Maker stage simply titled "Kongquest." Play as Diddy across Crocodile Isle! Gangplank Galleon, Crocodile Cauldron, K. Rool's Keep, and The Flying Kroc. (Unfortunately that's all I'll be able to fit.)

I think he probably wised up and saw that, out of the two candidates so many people were tossing around, he and his confidants were only openly joking about Inkling, and decided to even the playing field. Or is just putting way less thought into this than everyone else is and is just doing a paint-by-numbers troll-job.
Either way, I think it's interesting that, out of the people who have said "this isn't a ballot character," a handful of them have elaborated that they think this not because of the character itself, but because of the timeframe. The people arguing that this is some random character far fewer people want that will somehow still break the Internet and be super hype have less of a leg to stand on here.
I see the bananas on a slope... K. Rool is a slippery slope?
Also, as much I think Ridley won't make it in, if NINTENDO saw the outcry for him, could they force Sakurai to include him? Couldn't the same be said for Chrom? I doubt it's a character we've seen already. At this point, I think the ballot winner is K. Rool, so what do I think the "not so shocking" character may be? Easily, Inklings.
Please correct me in any of this if I'm wrong!
If the character is around a "9/10" on the hype scale, here are my other options.
K. Rool
I mean it. Those are the only two I can see fitting the criteria.
As an effort to support the king with pictures rather than words, here's my contribution with an edited screenshot featuring Kirby, and a possible representation of his in-game hat after inhaling King K. Rool:
The bloodshot eye is one of K. Rool's signature design details, so I think it would make sense to feature it on Kirby's hat. I also like how it makes Kirby scary in a funny way, contrasting with his generally cute-looking copy hats. Do you like the idea or would you prefer to stick with Kirby's regular eyes? Though after looking at the copy ability article of SmashWiki it looks like none of them change Kirby's eyes (except for G&W but that's just a recolor and R.O.B. is just a mask which hides the textures) so that would be unprecedented if it happened, and a proof of great attention to detail.
And if anyone has Twitter, don't hesitate to share it, though credits would be nice
And for those rumors... well, I'll go to bed now, maybe there will be a Direct announcement when I wake up? I'm not going to get myself excited about something that may very possibly not happen, though.
The more these people-in-the-know try to distance the choice from the ballot (i.e. fan demand), the more likely it seems that the character is not K. Rool. I think the rumors are suggesting a character that makes "sense" (given the other choices in Smash Bros Wii U/3DS) regardless of their fan demand. And that "character" seems like Inkling to me, due to their promotional potential.
I think K. Rool remains a likely possibility as future DLC, but I'm not reading his name in these tweets about the next character reveal.

I think that Mining Melancholy is my favorite song from that game, and I love this remix too.
Actually, while I'm here, lemme take a survey: what's your favorite Donkey Kong game? Anything from the DK arcade game to Diddy Kong Racing to DK jungle beat (though I personally despised every bit of that one) is fair game (rimshot). Tropical Freeze is my personal all-time favorite, finally displacing longtime uncontested champ Diddy's Kong Quest.
...I haven't posted any remixes in ages, have I? Well, here's one from the best classic DKC and one from the best modern DKC.

The problem is a few of them have also stated they don't necessarily think its the fact that the character wasn't highly requested in the ballot, but that the character was simply started way too soon for it to be a ballot character (in their opinion).
Croc fact of the day: ever wondered why crocs sometimes bask with their mouths open? They don't have sweat glands, so opening their mouths causes the water inside to evaporate, producing a cooling effect similar to the one sweat provides for us. Remember, just because they're reptiles doesn't mean they want to be hot all the time; thermoregulation is hugely important to cold-blooded critters of all shapes and sizes.
