No matter how much I try to like Smash Run, I just can't. There's just so many missed opportunities with this thing it's not even funny. What was Sakurai thinking with this mode, honestly? And that speaks nothing of Smash Tour.
Better than Smash tour...alot bettr...so....
But yh....i was really looking forwar for a melee type adventure mode...even if it was litreally copy and paste...but just diffrent stages and foes...would have been way better than smash tour and smash run...

Awww man classic mode sucks so hard...why is it not 1v1...why are they tryna stuff all the chars into classic mode?

We have all star mode for a reason...

So, Reddit theorizes that our next Direct may actually be in mid-September instead of August. They say not only would it coincide with Super Mario Maker's release and Smash 3DS' one year anniversary in Japan, but it would take place roughly 47 days from the previous patch, the same number of days there have been between each patch thus far.

If we get characters announced, they could either be released then and there, or released on the ballot's closing date.

My main issue with Smash 3DS is Smash Run's missed opportunities, hell, I feel like they could've even made Smash Run an Online mode. I prefer Smash 3DS over the Wii U version mainly because how you can customize it the way you want it (setting alts as default, control scheme without the name tags, etc) unlike the Wii U version (I assume this is due to it being seen as home console where the whole family and some friends would play it and all that jazz), another downside is my circle pad is going down the ****ter. I need the New 3DS but I refuse to buy the XL version because its too big and uncomfortable for my hands and if I recall correctly the US only has the XL version in stores while EU and JP have the regular versions in stores along with the XLs (Why??).

Also the ballot ends on the US Smash 3DS anniversary. All that said, I have a feeling the timing sucks here. If we get a direct soon (as in before august ends) we will definitely have no ballot news. If we get one in september, we will still likely not have ballot news, as the ballot wont be over. So the earliest we could get news is in an October direct, with only an announcement trailer of the winners (which I doubt will happen).

Im willing to bet we will have a direct sometime between now and mid-september as theorized.....featuring only preballot info, such as Wolf and/or surprise preballot. We probably wont have another direct until November or December, which then I'd expect to see some form of an announcement trailer, or at least Nintendo thanking fans for their feedback. More than likely, we will never see the ballot results, and wont get a proper newcomer trailer until spring next year.

I hope results come sooner rather than later, the waiting is starting to get to me. Also one more time, the "ballot"is a suggestion box, even though the word "ballot" would suggest a voting system of some sort?

No its not, are several people going to report this for being off topic? Anyway I'm torn between Krusha and Kaptain as my favorite version of Rool.

Its not original lol. Pokken's style comes from Tekken, who's genre of 3D fighting originates with Virtua Fighter.
Yeah I know but I still consider that new. (As in not Smash or Mario Kart 8) Ever since I played Pokémon I always wanted to actually do the battles and the closest thing is Smash ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

People say it's a suggestion box mostly because they don't want the characters who at the top, point blank...if the characters they claimed were shoo-ins were contenders, it would be a whole different story. It's a disingenuous argument, because there's no false choice between popularity mattering and it being a straight-up name draw from a hat. "LOL its a vote buuuuut Sakurai could decide to ignore the votes in favor of inventing that his preferred choices 'appeal to more people.'" Again, invoking the casual audience with no evidence to support what appeals to them one way or the other.

There are legitimate reasons to not claim it's a vote on the official site. Voter fraud would be far more rampant from people who think "you can vote any character into Smash," and most of the characters who could outright win are stupid/impossible (Shrek, Banjo), while viable characters like Wolf and K. Rool may fill out the top five but not the top spot. Of course, from where we're standing, it's a slippery slope between only writing off the bad requests vs. picking and choosing between valid ones based on bias, but that's a judgment we can only make once DLC is done for good.

Also, I'm going to ask that we stay on topic with K. Rool now instead of talking about the 3DS in general.

Aaaaaaaaand there's Pokken for Wii U.

Anyways, a mid-September Direct seems likely. Yet I'm not sure if we're getting ANY more pre-ballot DLC. Star Fox Zero releases in Q4 2015 so it's coming out soon but not mid-September soon. I guess there's still hope that they use a Direct to announce Wolf's return to Starfox as well as Smash Bros, and potentially detailing Smash Starfox Amiibos (Fox, Falco, Wolf) on their use for SF0.

How do you guys think they'll announce the ballot winners? Do you think they'll announce them the day of or very soon after the Ballot closes? Do you think they would announce these on their own in a New Content video or simply roll them in with the next Direct which could be any amount of time after? Or do you think we will only see them as they are released months down the road?

Do you think we won't get Directs anymore with Iwata not here? Pokken's Wii U reveal and release date would be Direct-fodder if it ever existed.

I hope it is the day of, but I seriously doubt it. A part of me thinks they haven't started on characters at all, which would be really dumb. So I assume they will announce them after the 3rd of October.

Trying to turn this into something some what on topic, but something this big (We finally have more than 2 games for Wii U next year! :troll: ) would have been most likely saved for a Nintendo Direct, which makes me believe we unfortunately won't be getting an August Direct. Hopefully we get one September or early October, as we're pretty much starving for new Nintendo news.
(and as i'm typing this, I get :4greninja: 'd! ah well :) )

If it is the case, I'm pretty sure Nintendo will reveal it soon. I don't so them never making Directs ever again without mentionning it. I think that we will still get Direct thought.

To all the people saying it Pokken for Wii U was announced in "thin-air" it wasn't it was actually announced during the Pokemon World Championships. Harada and the Pokemon Company president came on stage and revealed it.

I'm not really sure how they'll reveal the ballot winners, but I feel like revealing them one by one will probably generate the most hype, especially if they're close enough to completion that they can have trailers with gameplay rather than a Mewtwo sort of reveal.

I'd honestly be kind of surprised if Sakurai and co. hadn't started working on at least one ballot character at this point. Sakurai has mentioned that they're not going to keep the Smash 4 DLC team together for long and the ballot characters are really the only thing we know of that's left for them to do now that tourney mode and the Smash 64 stages have been released. Plus, I think it makes some sense to have at least one ballot character to announce soon after the ballot closes to be able to show results from it immediately. That said, it's possible that they're working on stuff we don't know about, so I may be a bit off on that.

If Sakurai announces the ballot characters one at a time, who do you think would be announced first? I've seen some talk about Wolf being a good pick if he's included in DLC since he could tie in with Star Fox Zero and might not take as much development time. I also feel like there's something to be said for having a popular newcomer announced first (e.g., K. Rool) to help capitalize off of ballot hype. What do you all think?

I actually like the 3-DS version of SSB4 better than the Wii U version simply because of Smash Run. As a matter of fact, the only reason I bought it was because of the Kritters showing up as enemies in it which I think is awesome. The only good thing about the Wii U version is the trophy studio photo maker. Mega Man and Bowser Jr.'s inclusion as fighters is what made me get both games though anyway. If Sakurai plans on adding more modes for dlc for wii u then I hope opne of them is either like adventure mode from melee or the one from brawl with the story scenes.

Speaking of which, who else would love to see a DK mission in adventure mode with kritters and klaptraps in hd wii u quality? and then you fight K. Rool at the end to unlock him as a fighter?(though he'll likley just be added as dlc as we all know if he makes it but the idea is cool I think) It'd be kinda like a preview to a new actual DKCR game.

I don't know who specifically would be announced, but I'm willing to bet it would be a first party newcomer. I know, really narrows things down, eh? My thinking is that they wouldn't want to throw out another third party instead of someone they actually own (what does that say about the quality of their own characters?), and after three veterans, they'll want to show off someone new (and Wolf comes off as more of a 'surprise' extra like Lucas in any case).

K. Rool, if he's not out of the running, is a perfect candidate. I'd be worried if he weren't the first ballot newcomer shown, in fact.

More than likely though, we will have to wait. Just as we have to wait for the miiverse photo contest. Im in the boat that while the ballot is being monitored, the winners won't be decided until some time after the ballot officially ends. It will probably be some time after the ballot until we get an announcement, if we even get an announcement. (probably one with an early model, like the mewtwo trailer).

Mewtwo was a veteran, so announcing his development was a special case. Its possible Nintendo will want the winner(s) to be top secret until their trailers launch next year. They will probably ensure another Ryu/Roy leak doesnt happen.

Sigh... I wish we had something to discuss Smash wise, be it from a Rumor, or something Sakurai might of hinted about. It is Friday, so maybe he said something on Famitsu? Also, i'm starting to feel like we're in a "dry" stage of smash speculation, so I hope we can get some hype rain soon enough to make things active.

I agree, this is probably the first time ever we've been so dry in speculation. When the game was officially unveiled at E3 2013, we had Pic of the Day and roster rumors as far as the eye could see to speculate about. When the 3DS version came out, we speculated about the new modes hinted for the Wii U version. After the Wii U version came out, we had Mewtwo to wait for. Before we got Mewtwo, Lucas was revealed, with a Ballot to speculate about. Lucas then launched with Ryu and Roy. Since then, Sakurai hasn't teased anything (excluding the stages and Mii suits we got back in early August). With no new rumors or hints of whats to come, it's certainly been dry for the past couple months.

Forgot about those, thanks but the lagging online almost ruins it. And it's easy to lose track of yourself if you do more than 5 characters in 8 player smash unless you're someone big

Even if we do get a Nintendo Direct sometime before October, I don't think we'll be getting anything big announced for Smash. They could release some characters before the ballot ends, but I doubt they'd have anyone who is ranking high on the ballot as one. When Sakurai says pre-ballot, I think he means 'before the ballot was announced/opened,' and post-ballot means 'after the ballot was announced/opened.' This causes me to speculate that, as I've brought up before, Sakurai and his team are creating the characters who are ranking high on the ballot. It makes no sense to me that they'd wait until after the ballot. Sakurai said he can't hold his team together forever, and what else would be working on? Ryu/Lucas/Roy were pre-ballot, Peach's/Hyrule Castle and Tourney mode were in development also, but released later. There's literally NO REASON for Sakurai and his team to do nothing for a couple months while some characters are clearly more popular than others.

Well, that's rather hilarious. XD. Let's be honest; It's not Shovel Knight's time yet anyway (I am well aware that's Shovel Knight Smashified, btw).
Ya asked for something to be discussed Smash-wise, there ya go.

Worth noting that the Mewtwo and Splatoon Amiibos were also leaked with correct release dates.
