I don't want the DLC characters are store exclusive, but I won't be surprised if Nintendo decides to make them exclusive. Even though amiibos are getting some what easier to find, its still a pain having to go to a specific store to and having to deal with a long line if you want a better chance at getting a certain amiibo.
Nintendo doesn't make them exclusive. Certain stores pay Nintendo additional money to secure that exclusivity (temporarily; its not a permanent exclusivity). Nintendo doesn't seek it out, the stores just ask for it.

I recently learned a new technique as ROB. That is, if he drops his Gyro on the ground as the opponent grabs the ledge and does a running Up Smash, the gyro will hit the opponent into the Up Smash.

Imagine that but with a cannonball knocking a character into K Rool's mighty uppercut. I'm telling you, he needs a cannonball he can pick up and carry.

After eating a bowl of instant noodles with beef broth, I have to say this is my favorite thing ever that is considered cheap.

Anyway, one of the best things about Robin and ROB is their ability to create throwable items, and for Robin, those usually pack a bigger punch than his specials so I hear. If K. Rool gets a cannonball he can pick up that only -other heavies- can pick up and move around with as well, that could open up so many new possibilities, while giving heavies a way to counter him.

I love how K. Rool is trying everything to counter light weights but intentionally leaving himself open to other heavies. I think this type of character is needed more than we think.

Personally if anything, I would want Krusha K. Rool more then any of the others. I mean, I'd be happy any other way, but...

Y'know, he looks super silly as a boxer.

Plus he'd fit perfectly in the ring with Little Mac.

I've been thinking. What if K.Rool non-on-disc rejection was a result of the Slippa eating its own tail?

I mean Tanabe wouldn't be so gun-ho to not put Kremlings in Returns and Tropical Freeze if K.Rool was playable in Brawl. (If Retro only played the DKC trilogy for research for Returns, and not DK64, they gotten the Rocketbarrel and Peanut Popgun from Brawl)

And since there's a lack of K.Rool in his home franchise, Sakurai probably thought he shouldn't even bother if the people currently handling the Donkey Kong franchise isn't.

Of course, the huge support K.Rool is getting means neither Sakurai or Retro has an excuse anymore. lol

Now you've got me wondering, too. This actually does make sense.

I wonder if any consultation took place, to that end?

Personally I believe part of the reason of silence on the internal workings of the ballot is so that they can be more flexible on it. I don't believe there is an exact limit to the number of Sakurai is making, in that it's much like when he's developing the main game: His team manages to make a character quicker than anticipated, or have a personal favorite that they work on during their own time, which results in them deciding more so on an end date than an end amount. I would say 4 is probably the aim, but more is possible. Another reason for the secrecy is freedom. They said after the last characters everything from here on out is fan-service, and that Ryu was the last of the pre-ballot planned characters. Well the code indicates they have 2 characters ingame and working, and those are likely from the ballot. Characters and Stages are different teams, so there's no reason Character development stopped. the Ballot started back in the first of April. The first 2 weeks and the last 1 of any long term event tend to be the strongest. So it's completely possible they chose 2 from the start to begin development, which means it's been about 3 months, and it's to be assumed it takes about 3-5 months to develop 2 characters, possibly less as they streamline.

Personally, I'm expecting 2 more characters before or by the end of the ballot. There is no reason for their not to be in all reality. by the time the ballot ends it will be 6 months since the Ballot started, and 4 Months since the last character. I believe they are still on schedule, and truth be told I doubt Iwata's death has altered that, since Sakurai showed that despite his sadness he wanted to continue working in memory of his friend. Add to that a Smash update video with Sakurai has been done before and can be done again. I still believe our King is likely to be first among them with interesting concepts and the heavy initial and continued support.

Should be interesting to see what happens, but honestly I expect to hear something sooner than later. While I do expect a veteran, I think Newcomers are the focus from here, and I still think it's likely we're getting a NA, EU, JP and Worldwide pick. I also have this kinda feeling that we'll get a newcomer for each, though Wolf will be extra both due to support from the ballot, and the new Star Fox game coming up, and part of the reason they are waiting now is so they can put him in closer to Star Fox Zero's artstyle which would be pretty sick. Here's my thought, you put the ballot out there, what do you really want? old things coming back? or great new ideas and characters from series both new and old? A big part of the ballot is hearing the voice of characters that may have not had a chance otherwise, needless to say our king is up there, but so are those from series with little to no rep like Sami from Advance Wars, or Issac from Goldensun. Throw in the fact that out of the 4 dlc characters so far 3 are vets which is a Japanese focus, and only 2 could be called Global, both with heavy Japanese appeal as well, a stream of newcomers seems likely to me.

And the Isaac Smashified was disappointing indeed. It will be interesting to see how different the official look will be, like Roy who was entirely redesigned for this Smash and no one expected that look.
Though I wonder if the Isaac fans liked the Smashified. Because I like the K. Rool one but I might be blinded by my desire for him, no homo (ok, just a bit homo).

Thank you kindly for that mental image.

@ Banjo-Kazooie Banjo-Kazooie I'm sure the Isaac fans are just glad Isaac is finally DONE after several months of teasing. It's just the eyes, hair and headshape in my eyes. Other than that I think it's a decent render. I personally feel it's not nearly among their best but still. Even the worst of Omni is pretty damn great.

Most of the Adepts are happy that we've finally got a Smashified Isaac after waiting for such a long time - though most of the complaints really come down to the way they've modelled Isaac's face and eyes. I'm pretty happy to see it myself, and there are things that they can improve on, such as making his emotions more lively and the face being somewhat stiff, but given that this is their first attempt at Isaac and also a short segment of 3D animation, I'll forgive them. I think they might also revise the model so that he becomes less of Eyesaac and a more lively Isaac.

I like the Issac Smashified. Eyes could be better, but then again I don't 3D model.

It's pretty great to see more characters get added and the project to expand. I'm wondering if they might continue this even after we get all the DLC for 4.

Just my overall reaction was "Its ok. But its a good thing that the official ones are always a lot better".
Gonna go ahead and suspect the next Smashifieds are either Bandana Dee or Krystal. Dee should be easy but I can't see a way they could do Krystal without blowing it.

Huh. Hadn't really thought about Sami, tbh. I've heard a couple of people sugest Sturm from Advance Wars though.

People have been talking about Sturm? The main characters I hear from Advance Wars are either Andy or Sami. Personally I'd prefer Sami of anyone. I'd love to see Sami, I just doubt it happening.

I wouldn't mind Sami being a straight up clone of Snake since he's no longer here anyway.

I wouldn't mind either of the three, tbh. Andy and/or Sami would both be cool. If they happened though, Sturm probably wouldn't be very likely. Maybe if the stars alligned they'd throw AW Smash representation a villain-shaped bone though.

If Advanced Wars ever gets an Awakening or Uprising esk renaissance you could have Sami, Andy, AND Strum all at once in the next game.

I would not mind that, actually. The Awakening/Uprising esk game to revive the Advanced Wars series.

No matter how much I try to like Smash Run, I just can't. There's just so many missed opportunities with this thing it's not even funny. What was Sakurai thinking with this mode, honestly? And that speaks nothing of Smash Tour.

That would definitely be cool! Especially if Sturm got even more menacing. AW 1 he's... kind of short looking and runty. AW 2 has him looking much more commanding. A revival that really amped it up and made Sturm look like a smashingly intimidating looking bugger would be awesome.

This. I was so looking forward to smash bros combined with kirby air ride's city trial mode. instead we got a great concept with absolutely neutered potential.(really? no way to mess with and interact with your opponents during the collection phase at all!?) shame too since i loved city trial.

Smash Run and Tour had so much potential to be great game modes! Smash Run could have been as @ SleuthMechanism SleuthMechanism stated, and Smash Tour could have had you "Touring" the world's of the different smash characters adventure mode style and still fit a party mode theme

Indeed.

Somehow I feel, yet again, the 3DS limitations are to blame for Smash Run's unfulfilled potential. Even if I couldn't sabotage the enemies during the Smash Run, I can't even adjust the number of CPUs or their difficulty, or the length of time Smash Run lasts. Those things should be the bare minimum of parameters you can set. If you actually want some replayability, allow us to select which enemies and after-Run final battles show up kinda like Item Select (which we can't even adjust the frequency on)

The 3DS version SUCKS. It's my least favorite Smash entry and the only one I currently own.

It appears unlikely we will get a Direct this month. There's always September.

Smash tour is only good when you got a group of friends over all drunk and having a good time...once. I tried playing it again and even then I could not understand what was going on. It's so visually busy, and things just happen with no rhyme or reason. I don't even want to play it again, and it angers me that there are challenges based on smash tour. If you want that Ridley trophy, you got to pray to god it goes in your favor (and not get a headache).

The 3DS version is bad, but you have to admit that it gets some things right. The WiiU version has done regrettable things(no really cool features come out of linking a 3DS). I would have liked it if it gave you Smash Run HD with extra features and what not. There are barely any modes to use when linked. It just limits you.

I always play Smash Tour when I'm low on coins or need some Crazy Orders tickets. I've played it over ten times, and the Metroid has only shown up once. Didn't get the challenge done.

Back when I still had the Wii U version, I never got Pac Land, because that would require me to play Smash Tour three times. I tried it once and quit a few rounds in because I couldn't stand it. Not only does a party gameboard not belong in Smash, they even managed to do a gameboard in the worst way possible by making it so ungodly random.

Aside form the music, you do NOT need or want to unlock Pac-Land.

I'll give the 3DS version credit in that it can be fun when you're on your own. The Classic mode doesn't suck ass, and Smash Run can be a pretty fun time, especially with other people. Wii U has no fun solo things unless you count ****ing around with the trophy studio.

I like the 3DS version, honestly. It's classic mode is better than Brawl's and Smash WiiU's. I never had much of a complaint with Smash Run, either. *shrug*

To be fair, given the limitations of the 3DS system, it did a good job adapting the series to it. Compared to the WiiU version it has fewer questionable design choices.

But then you realize that the Wii U could have just as easily had the 3DS's version of Classic Mode, but didn't because Sakurai wanted to make the two versions of the game more different.
