TFW: You're actually terrified your character will get Smash representation...

Honestly though, I prefer it this way. It's better to know he's not happening this time around than to waste my energy on false hope.

What makes you start worrying about that all of a sudden?
River City Ransom got a spirit event, showing that they're willing to do that sort of thing even with companies (like Arc System Works) that they weren't already working with for Smash.

Well, Billy/Jimmy Lee, Sol Badguy, and (maybe) Ragna the Bloodedge are still in the running then, for those who wanted them. It does seem worrying that maybe Koei Tecmo will even have a Spirit Event but let's hope one doesn't come for Ninja Gaiden.

To be perfectly honest, I was kinda hoping that Ryu would've been fighter 5 for the Pass so we could have all the major icons of the NES era. I'd like to add my name to support Ryu Hayabusa for this season of DLC since it's potentially anything goes.

River City Ransom isn't even Arc System Works biggest series, though. They have other, more well-known series such as Double Dragon and Guilty Gear, so it's not like all characters from that company are ruled out (if I had to choose, I'd pick Billy and Jimmy from Double Dragon myself).

There's nothing wrong with being concerned about whether or not your favorite series only get a spirit event but in this case, I don't think a series like River City Ransom is an indication of how a much more famous series like Ninja Gaiden is going to be represented.

Damn, at this point I’m kind of worried Ninja Gaiden will end up suffering a Spirit event.
Kunio-kun just got one just yesterday
i fear the worse for Bill Rizer and Hayabusa, but shouldn't worry too much.

Well...not ALL...
its missing Jason & Sophia III TvT

a bit niche, but Sunsoft deserves a bit of spotlight.

I don't think Sophia 3rd should be a playable character. Its basically a Landmaster. It'd make a good AT though.

If we get a playable tank, it should absolutely be an SV-001 Metal Slug.

Well since Tecmo doesn’t have a playable rep yet, maybe Ryu Hayabusa is most likely determined to become a DLC on this Fighters Pass.
I heard some rumor about Nintendo making Ryu and Byleth switching places to prevent many of the Ryu Hayabusa leaks to be accurate but that might be a little too farfetched.
And yeah, the chances of Contra being represented by a spirit event instead, are highly probable, sadly.

Not gonna lie, I’d much rather have Sophie III and Jason on the roster.

The third!!! It’s so merciless that it even makes you restart back from the beginning of the level if you run out of continues.

I don't remember much about 2 or 3, but first was brutal. Especially from the moment you arrive at Jaquio's mountain. That's like halfway through the game. But if you get a game over from then on, you're back all the way back at the beginning of the mountain. Even if you die at the very final boss.

Mmm, sorta. It's hardly halfway through the game. It's just act 6. But yeah, normally each Act has two levels. And each level has a midpoint. But if you game over anywhere in Act 6, you go back to the start of the Act. The game is fine up until that point.

The game also has 3 final bosses, and the one plus side is that once you beat one of the bosses, they stay dead, even if you game over.

2 is much more fair, and much more fun.

3 WOULDN'T be as hard as 1, except, unlike the first two games, it has limited continues. Which can make it even harder to beat than 1.

I can generally breeze through the 1st one since I've played it so many times. Sword of Chaos is starting to get easier the more I play it, you really got to utilize your sub-weapons and the Ryu apparitions in certain parts. Ancient Ship really does get more brutal at the end, especially for the reasons already mentioned. I guess it's a pick your poison situation but the 3rd one is probably the hardest.

6-2 in the 1st Ninja Gaiden game is a nightmare that still intimidates me whenever I arrive in it. Thank God for the screen glitch to make the white robe guy disappear lol.

I was playing the NES Ninja Gaiden games a few weeks ago for the first time in a few years, and since then, Ryu has gone from somebody who I wouldn't mind seeing in Smash to someone who would genuinely excite me. This guy has my full support.

I do wonder what they would add for his music though. I think the series has some great tracks that have potential for killer arrangements (see here and here), but imo it doesn't have the consistent greatness of something like Mega Man or Castlevania. Plus, lots of tracks (especially from the first game) are <30 second loops. Maybe they could remedy this by making some medleys?

Huh... I had a quirky dream last night where Nintendo bought most of the rights to the Ninja Gaiden IP, making it 2nd party like Pokémon.
I only remember having myself pretty surprised and quite excited about these news, not only did his chances of being on the second Fighters Pass skyrocketed, but also because I just liked the idea of seeing Ryu more often with Mario, Samus and all the other Nintendo characters.
In all seriousness I do think this is quite possible, seeing that Nintendo and Tecmo have a pretty tight knit relationship, and also that Nintendo did publish Razor’s Edge 3, back in the Wii U days.

I keep wishing Nintendo would but Konami or Capcom, making all their characters first party.

Konami just so they'd stop going to waste, Capcom just for the bajillion more characters it would bring to Smash.

There are some who would argue that Nintendo doesn't do enough with a lot of the franchises they have. The Mother series is out of their control, since it's auteur-driven, but long-running series with lots of potential like F-Zero, Golden Sun, and Advance Wars, among others, have been neglected. Buying out third party franchises seems like it might lead to more of that.

Konami might be letting its line-up go to waste, but if Nintendo bought out Capcom, we likely wouldn't have gotten masterpieces like Devil May Cry 5 or the Resident Evil 2 remake (or, at least, DMC5 and RE2 at the quality that we got them at). I figure it's better to let them (and Koei Tecmo, which is more on-topic) stay independent; besides, it's not like Capcom has any problem with bringing its characters to Smash in the first place.

I'm not going to pretend that every franchise is a masterpiece that needs to continue though.

Like, I'm sorry, but F-Zero simply doesn't need new games anymore. It's both wholly redundant, and inferior, to Mario Kart now.

Also, when I said "buy Capcom" I don't just mean, "buy the IPs, close all the studios and fire all the people". So there's no reason those other games wouldn't continue to get made. Nintendo isn't going to tell the RE team to start making Luigi's Mansion games.

I get that, but while I don't know much about graphics and the internal hardware of the system, I'm not sure if the Switch would have the power for DMC5 or the RE2 remake. It got Resident Evil 7, but only in Japan through some kind of streaming service, so I'm not sure if it would be able to handle those games without severe downgrades.

If a third party series (take Bayonetta for example) needs Nintendo funding to continue, then I totally understand that. I question it in cases where it's a major franchise (Street Fighter V, for example, where Sony has console exclusivity - it's not like Street Fighter is some minor franchise on life support that Capcom has no faith in), but buying out the entire company seems excessive. (especially if there's no guarantee that employees would stick around after the change in management)

Pretty much the only Capcom IP that I wouldn’t mind at all seeing Nintendo buy, is Megaman.

As for Konami, Bomberman and Castlevania, I guess. Imo most of the other ones aren’t really that much of a good fit.

I could see Nintendo doing fine with Contra, Goemon and Gradius/Parodius as well.

Metal Gear and Silent Hill might be more of a challenge for them...

Konami should just outright be bought, they're doing nothing with their franchises. That said, the hypothetical scenario in which, say, Nintendo buys their NES library (Castlevania, Contra, Gradius) plus their more colorful IP like Goemon, whereas Sony buys the more adult stuff like Metal Gear and Silent Hill is ideal, but barring them going bankrupt I don't see it.

I do wonder why they even bought Hudson considering how they barely do anything with their IP.

I've not had much experience with the Ninja Gaiden series beyond as a rental when the NES original came out and reading the Worlds of Power book based on the game. I think I also played the second at a cousin's house, but again. That was decades ago. Anyhow, I'm throwing my hat in the ring as a supporter. Here are my thoughts, but I know that some has been mentioned before.

Koei Tecmo and Nintendo have a good working relationship and it would be nice of KT had a character. Hayabusa makes the most sense.

I see him having an alt to represent his NES era and the modern games but pulling moves from NES era, modern era, and DOA games.

I was watching the NG2 intro and thought that the reveal trailer could be something like it. The same music beings but with Ganondorf as a stand-in for Ashtar. The informant, did he have a name, could be Sheik for the purpose of the trailer. Ganondorf tosses the Invitation to Sheik who then vanishes.

The second segment of the trailer recreates the NG1 intro, but this sequence, has Ryu and Greninja fight each other. Greninja is defeated and Sheik before Ryu and tosses the Invitation. We get a close up shot of Ryu's masked face as in the original and then the camera pans out for the splash screen.

If Hayabusa does make it in, I hope they do another "Bringing Back the '80s" tournament with him in it. Maybe they can add Young Link in it too since he also comes from the 80s and to keep it an even number of characters.

I know this is all referencing Ninja Gaiden and it's not a bad idea but it just doesn't look right to have Shiek working for Ganondorf. It's just so unfitting. I'd probably use different characters for that. But it's also nice because it does give you an idea of who could be Hayabusa's final boss but even then, I pick Dracula for that.

Team Ninja acknowledges those that want a new Ninja Gaiden game, but the question for now is will Koei-Tecmo want 1 as well?

Ouch, that's not exactly a good omen. Pretty sure this means one isn't in development.

Team Ninja are ready to turn Nioh into a trilogy I bet.

but yeah it'll be a long time from now until we see a new Ninja Gaiden game if we do get 1.
