How large will pools be / how many will get out to the next round?
Plan A is 16 pools of 10-11 players each, top 4 advance to the second round which is 8 pools of 8 players each.

Plan B is 24 pools of 6-7 players each, top 3 advance to the second round which is 8 pools of 9 players each.

Most likely, the TO staff and I will create two entire sets of pools to accommodate both scenarios, then go with one of them on tourney day depending on the number of setups brought by attendees. If we get over 32 Melee setups, we'll go with Plan A. If we get fewer than 32 Melee setups, we'll move to Plan B. Hopefully this, on top of the $10 setup discount, incentivizes attendees to bring as many setups as possible.

I sent a mass email with these reminders a day ago, but here it is again:

* Schedule
If you've read the website or thread, you may have noticed the tournament schedule doesn't begin until mid-afternoon on Saturday. That's because the venue isn't available to us until just before then, and we also hope the later-than-usual starting time will provide a buffer to those traveling into Michigan that morning. In any case, please do not show up until at least 2pm Saturday. Check-in will be available starting at 2pm, and the tournament will begin at 3pm.

* Changing Teammates
If you registered for Melee Doubles, you have until May 31 to add or change your teammate. Please check the attendees page and email the staff at michigansmash@gmail.com to make any changes. If you do not add a teammate, we will pair unmatched doubles entrants by random. If only one player on a team has added the other as their teammate, we will assume that is the final team unless told otherwise. It is your responsibility to check your and your teammate's registration records to confirm that both of you have registered for teams and have added each other as teammates.
http://register.umsmash.com/attendees.php

* Spectator Policy
We are completely unable to accommodate spectators at Super SWEET due to the venue fire capacity. This policy has been clearly stated since the beginning of registration. If anyone shows up at the door without registering beforehand, event security will be forced to turn them away. Please don't be that person. Make sure to communicate this to everyone in your travel party before coming to Ann Arbor.

* Committed Equipment (Setups)
For those who committed equipment during registration, you must follow through with that or else risk paying a $20 penalty charge during check-in. Setups are the most essential piece to the tournament, and our numbers must be accurate for planning purposes. Check the committed equipment list below to confirm whether you committed equipment during registration. If you can no longer commit to bringing equipment, you have until May 31 to email michigansmash@gmail.com and tell us that information.
http://www.umsmash.com/wp-content/uploads/CommittedEquipment_052714.pdf

* Setup Discounts
In order to qualify for the $10 setup discount, you must be able to lend your equipment to the staff until at least 5pm Sunday and must meet all the initial requirements of a full setup as described in the sections below. Your equipment will be marked by TO staff during check-in, and your setup discount will be given out during check-out on Sunday.

* Melee Setups
For those who committed Melee equipment during registration, a full Melee setup comprises of a 15+ inch TV, GameCube, Melee disc, and fully unlocked memory card. To avoid confusion and inconvenience, we cannot accept Wiis as part of a full Melee setup. Please bring GameCubes only as part of your full Melee setup.

* Project M Setups
For those who committed Project M equipment during registration, a full Project M setup comprises of a 15+ inch TV, Wii, Brawl disc (or an ability to run Brawl), a method of starting your Wii (Sensor Bar + Wii Remote or a form of BootMii), and a 3.02 full set (Not Wi-Fi!) SD card. Please avoid potentially distracting textures, music, sound effect and menu modifications -- if deemed extreme, your SD card may be overwritten without notice and your setup discount may be revoked.

* Miscellaneous Requests
All questions and requests should be communicated as soon as possible through emailing the staff at michigansmash@gmail.com. This includes teammate additions, refund requests, registration-related changes, or committed equipment changes. Please do not reach out to us through social media, as it's impossible to keep track of important information that way. Thanks for understanding!

Look for another email next week with more information about the schedule, check-in, travel information, and preliminary Melee Singles pools. For more details about everything, check out the website http://www.umsmash.com or the Facebook event https://www.facebook.com/events/628049580578011/.

Best,
Robin Harn and the TO staff

Juggleguy I beg you and can Halberd be legal PLEASE Juggleguy! ;(
Halberd isn't close to as fair as other stages , and there shouldn't be that many stages. And this is a stacked tourney, and if this is your first major then you probably won't get money.

No, you will not. The venue fee that you payed is in place to pay for the venue for the entire weekend, not just one day. If you decide to not come on day two that is your choice, but the venue fee is non-refundable if you are competing in the tournament.

Juggleguy trust me the money for 5th place is a good idea because you must work hard to get 4th or higher
Juggleguy is going through enough trouble setting everything up for us, plus he has more than enough experience being a TO to know what he's doing. I don't think it's appropriate trying to make him change rules that he's already thought through and deemed as acceptable for this tournament.

If somebody doesn't show up/bails, can I pay and take their spot?

Sadly no, read below
Registrations are non-transferrable, anyone caught doing this will be DQ'd without refund.
Aside from the tournament already being 40 people over the cap, there is a TON of work that is put into seeding the tournament and making pools/brackets. The ability to switch registrations would make all that work for nothing.

Also - there will be security and strict policies regarding spectators. If you are not entering the event, you will not be allowed in unless you already have prior approval from Juggleguy. Any attempts to do so will result in you being thrown out of the venue. There will be security to make sure of this. Please don't make us do stuff like that.

This is probably a dumb question, but do you need to register if you just plan on spectating?
This is addressed literally two posts above yours. But just to re-iterate here is JuggleGuy's exact words from a Facebook post.

"I don't know if we failed to communicate this before, but just to clarify, the only people allowed into Super SWEET are the ones who registered online. If you didn't register online, you are not allowed access into the venue. Please don't waste a trip to Ann Arbor just to be turned away at the door if you didn't register. We are not accepting any transactions at the door. We are also not accommodating spectators.

For those of you who did register online, thank you. You'll be given a nametag to distinguish yourself as a registrant instead of a non-registrant. Do not bring non-registrants with you in your travel party. If we find out you try to sneak spectators into the venue, you will be DQ'd and evicted from the venue yourself. We don't like to be mean, but we have to abide by the fire capacity of our venue; this is a serious policy and we will have no mercy kicking people out for violating it. Please communicate this to everyone in your travel party."

If you didn't register, you are not welcome at the venue this weekend. Sorry, we have to abide by fire code venue capacity.

No transactions at the door. No spectators.

All pools and brackets can be found at: http://supersweet.challonge.com

* Melee Singles Pools Round 1
16 round-robin pools of 10 players each, top 4 advance to Melee Singles Pools Round 2. You will play in Wave 1 or Wave 2 of this round depending on your pool assignment.

* Melee Singles Pools Round 2
8 round-robin pools of 8 players each, top 4 advance to Melee Singles Bracket Top 32. You will play in Wave 1 or Wave 2 of this round depending on your pool assignment.

* PM Singles Bracket
2 half-brackets of 37 players each, top 4 advance to PM Singles Bracket Top 8. You will play in Wave 1 or Wave 2 of this round depending on your bracket assignment.

* Melee Doubles Bracket
1 straight bracket of 46 teams, run as a straight bracket from start to finish

All pools and brackets can be found at: http://supersweet.challonge.com

If you feel that we made a mistake with a pools/bracket assignment, please email the TO staff at michigansmash@gmail.com by 5pm Thursday with your concerns. Do not reach out to us through social media. These are not final, but we will only entertain requests to switch pools/bracket assignments based on compelling reasons.

Refer to the tournament schedule in coordination with your pools/bracket assignments to figure out when you have tournament obligations. We have structured pools/bracket assignments such that players entering both Melee and PM are placed into different waves on Saturday, and therefore have no overlapping tournament obligations on the schedule.

Please note that the TO staff reserves the right to change the tournament format on tourney day in the event of a shortage of setups for either game. Our format squeezes in the maximum competitive playing time possible considering the amount of space and time we have, but we need you to do your part by bringing the equipment you committed during registration.

Any questions, email the TO staff at michigansmash@gmail.com. Do not expect a reply if you reach out to us anywhere else.
