Jab as an Anti-Approach Move

Like the title says.

I went to a tourney today, and I figured that if an opponent comes dashing or shorthopping in, you can single jab and it basically just stops them in their tracks.

It worked particularly well for diddy, after shielding his bananas he'd often come dashing in for a grab or dash attack, in which I'd just jab. Since jab is so fast and has such great range it eliminates the possibility for a grab. It also has slight vertical range so it can still hit shorthopping approachers.

This is also pretty much unpunishable, if they spotdodge just continue with the jab combo. Don't do this against Marth though

I'll be uploading videos, and I'll try to provide examples of what I mean.

Yes this idea was at the beginning of the metagame... It's just pretty hard to get the timing against all characters / attacks...

His jab is way to good. A lot of range for a jab and 0-lag after his multi-hit spin (which you can follow up with another jab!)

It actually really translate well into Melee. Brawl helps melee skills imo.

And Falco's jab is way too good

I know there's ZSS's 1 frame jab though.

But yeah, there's definitely still potential with falco's jab. We just have to find more uses for it.

you can't assign a 'best jab' some jabs just have different functions.

i.e. ikes jab can be cancelled into anything
ZSS' jab comes out fastest coupled with squirtle

etc etc

falco does have the best jab it has amazing range and hits on frame 2 it if you know how to use it right you can stop a lot of approaches from characters like kirby trying to approach with fair or bair

not only that but he has that jab combo which can screw up a lot of the bigger cast of characters
