How are you guys getting that Miis are deconfirmed by this interview? I don't think they're in myself other than possible background filler, but the interview was talking about the "pick up and play with motion controls and pointing" style of play currently only possible on Wii.

And as for why the other sites have it above Manaphy, it's because they link to the wii.com site for those countries, not us.wii.com. Maybe the others just weren't up yet.

Now that I think about it, shake smash is a possible control scheme, semi-contradicting what Sakurai said.

Wow...i never knew that Sakurai and his team think of each game as the final one in the series. It makes it better I suppose.....

I think you skipped over a key part of the paragraph.

And no, not really. They said a few things: "the Wii pointer and motion movements would not be a primary feature of the game. " and also "The Nunchuk controller can be used to play the retail version of Smash Bros. Brawl, but it’s not highlighted as the main controller. ".

I would hardly call a "shake smash" a primary feature of the game. It's basically the only small remnant of the Wii motion control at all. He didn't say he ignored the Wii motion controls, he said he wanted to stay away from it for the most part.

Holy crap, 700 names in the credits? They better make credit shooting into a full fledged game with power ups and bosses.
Lmao!

Yeah you have to kill the text of "Masahiro Sakurai" for the final boss lol.

The entire first page is Iwata yapping about how Wii game HAVE TO BE INOVATIVE (ie use the wiimote). It's not necciarily true. I enjoy a casual game, but also one that has some depth. Iwata kinda saved himself later, but I'm wathing you Iwata!

"...or make it possible to use Miis."

Thanks for pointing that out to me, I must have glazed over that part.

Well, there's a very high chance of this being at least Sakurai's last SSB game. Hopefully Sakurai has been showing someone else the ropes so they can make the next one for Nintendo's next system. Or maybe the system after that. A good 5 year break is required for this series IMO.

Iwata: Those in the top five might feel pretty good about themselves, but what happens if you’re number 15,398 in the rankings?

I wouldn't care if I was ranked 15, 398, 345th. I still would have infinitely preferred a ranking system over a COMPLETELY anonymous system.

On that note, is there a limit to the number of wii friends you can register? Because if there isn't, I guess I'll just have to register everyone on smash boards, so I know who I'm fighting :)

goodbye poke floats?

i don't think big blue and poke floats is returning.

http://us.wii.com/iwata_asks/ssbb/vol3_page3.jsp

Sakurai: Another reason we incorporated the Stage Builder was simply to make it possible for players to get more out of the stages. In Smash Bros. Melee, for example, Big Blue and Poké Floats were known as challenging stages to play.

Iwata:It’s not that they were hard per se, but there were so many formidable obstacles that caused the unexpected to happen.

Sakurai:Exactly! (laughs) This time around, however, we refrained from using many stages like these. The backgrounds might change dramatically, but most large walls and ceilings were removed since we were aiming for simple, easy-to-maneuver stages. Yet, part of the appeal of the Smash Bros. series is that the unexpected can happen on more extreme stages. It would feel wrong if these challenging stages were missing from this title, so we decided to use the Stage Builder as a means of filling the gap.

Also, I think that fundamentally, we shouldn’t try and separate the casual gamers from the core gamers.

Look at how intelligent was Metroid Prime 3 for having a difficulty setting which made my father and I both able to have fun on the game. Look at how dumb were Twilight Princess and Phantom Hourglass for being locked in "easy" mode which made even my 7 years old brother finish them without difficulties.

Ooh, neato. According to the "Versus, Share, and co-op" part of the thing, it says you can play teams with anyone. Unless I'm reading it wrong, Sakurai says that you can play teams and be on the same team with someone you don't know (IE: not in the same room.)

Quite the opposite, actually. He writes the English entries on the Dojo, whereas obviously the interview was conducted in Japanese and then translated to English by someone else.

Quite the opposite, actually. Sakurai writes the Japanese, and it gets translated into English by a guy named Nate Bihldorff, who translates games for Nintendo. (I actually saw his name in the credits of Super Mario Galaxy about 15 seconds ago...)

I doubt it necessarily means those stages are out since they brought back Rainbow Cruise.

that is interesting, we havn't yet seen an option screen where you specify FFA or teams "with anyone". Hopefully there will also be the option for time or stock "with anyone". And another thing to wonder: will friendly fire be on during "with anyone" teams. I hope so, but part of me thinks no because Sakurai would want to keep bullies and *******es from being able to go after their teammates. But who knows . . .

Tomorrow (if this updates again) it sounds like he might be talking about character development aka 'the good stuff'. I'll check back.

These interviews are actually very interesting. Gives us something to do to bide our time while the roster is revealed in Japan...

I mean, other than going completely bonkers over a horrible roster that has little to no credibility behind it.

64 people is the limit as shown on the Dojo screenshots.

totally worthless online comments.

People are NOT BUYING THIS GAME because the online is so bad. If you didnt have any friends who played smash bros, and you found out the only online this game had to offer was 4 player random matches with items turned on and no ranking system, would you buy it? Im sure the single player is great, but thats not why im buying this game. While some people are avoiding this game because of its online worthlessness, i cant imagine what type of person would be upset that there IS an online ranking system. I mean, if the stupid little 12 year olds who suck at the game are getting crappy rankings, so be it. Sakurai makes it sound like they will start to cut themselves over their rankings. Random matches means these kids will be cutting themselves over the fact that they have never won a freaking match because there is no ranking system so they go against a bunch of good players rather than being at the bottom of the rankings where they can go up against other crappy 12 year old kids such as themselves.

I find that very difficult to believe since plenty of people bought the first two Smash games, neither of which having any kind of online mode at all. I guess those people who didn't have friends to play with got by somehow.

Like I said, plenty of people bought 64 and Melee without ANY online. The past two games have proven you don't even need any online mode to be successful. You seem to be making the assumption that everyone felt entitled to and expected an online function (granted, some people did), and would therefor be disappointed to discover it hasn't been executed to their liking. However, I think it's much more likely that MOST people (remember, there are people who don't even know of the DOJOs existence who are going to buy this game) probably didn't realize/expect that Brawl would have online capabilities.

Instead of seeing this glass half empty, how about this. . .

There actually IS an online mode now. Upgrade!

Yes. Totally. Entirely. Absolutely.
First of all, not everyone is ready to cut themselves over an inability to turn off items. I know it's the 'hardcore' way to play and all, but to be perfectly honest, I enjoy racing my friend to the Pokeball, or waiting for just the right second to cut loose with the home run bat.
Second, I'll take real players, even random, over the computer any day.
Third, it's not the only online the game has to offer. We literally have no idea how this is going to all work, until the game comes out.
Fourth, as previously stated, previous Smash games had no online at all. Any online is better than no online at all.
And Fifth, as for people who are NOT BUYING THIS GAME, I'll just say that I have not met a single person in real life, who has a Wii, who is aware of this game, who is not planning to purchase it. None.

@TomH

You mean you can't play a game online without some way to enhance your ego?

Look this arugement has been restated nearly 4 dozen time since hte online mode has been announced. Really I get tired of arugments related to that THIS THIS AND THIS must exist online or it sucks. Really it seems so unnecessary.

People are already creating websites to make the online in Brawl more advanced so I don't think we really have too much to worry about.
