I've decided I am going to work for Nintendo and sign up for DigiPen Applied Computer Graphics School in Redmond, Washington. Why? I'll tell you why!

Both DigiPen and Nintendo are connected in some way or another. I've had thoughts of becoming a game designer, and I'm gonna sign up for DigiPen so I can get a job for Nintendo and "someway" revive EarthBound! In 3D!!

It'll be hard... but I'll do it anyways! Even if I fail to do so, I'll create a spinoff out of EarthBound!

It'll be a promise! XD;

I'm a bit curious how one works for Nintendo o.0 I know they incorporate various jobs, but they are stationed all over the place I imagine. Nintendo is a Japanese based company as far as I know, so I think that means they actual development teams are over seas. The localization teams might be stationed in US, but isn't that desk job related work? You know such as translation, marketing, voice recording, etc.

You could probably get a job with a US based game designing company that has usual contracts with Nintendo (2nd/3rd party developers). But being directly involved with something like Mario, Metroid, etc. might likely involve a lot of connections, moving overseas, learning Japanese, and other things.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck. Always work hard at your dreams and goals.

We need some Zigsta motivation right now.

You're not going to be important in Nintendo unless you're Japanese or Reggie Fils-Aime.

It's good to have goals. But you should think about working for a smaller game company first to get experience. Most people have to start off someplace small and push their way up.

Yes but to climb the ranks to the highest places you have to be exceptionally talented (especially if you're not Japanese).

I'm not calling baby Looocas a ****** but I wouldn't peg him as some sort of prodigy.

Just saiyan, I don't like seeing people get their dreams CRUSHED because that hurts a lot.

It's called climbing the ranks. You know, like that British guy who designed the terrible ice cream line in the Gen V Pokemon games.
Yeah except climbing the ranks up to the top of nintendo would be PRETTY ****ING HARD even with a good plan and I can guarantee he isn't mentally capable of forming that plan. I want to be a game design director and I want to work at Valve, and I don't make some childish "durr wish me luck gaiz", because it doesn't change jack ****. I think, I plan, I'm already taking the steps and I have REAL goals set up to get to before I try to get my 'dream' job. Best part is, even if he does get high up he can't just say "oh let's make this Erfbound game" and everyone will just say yes, **** just doesn't work like that.

tl;dr-He can't do it, needs more realistic goals.

I think when I grow up, I'm going to get a job at Disneyland and then get them to renovate Indiana Jones and the rest of the Pirates of the Caribbean. And the rest of the park. Then I'll get them to shutdown the Disney channel, and then I'm going to become Walt Disney II. And then I'm going to get Disney to buy out Apple and Microsoft so we can all join forces for the better of mankind.

Then I'll get a job at the United Nations and get everyone to stop slaughtering each other over religious differences and we'll all end world hunger.

Wish me luck guys.

When I grow up, I'm going to win the lottery and sit on my *** all day in a big mansion getting served cocktails by a black butler called Wyclef because he'd be cool to jam with and I'll never work a day in my life and I'll then move to Miami and become a drug dealer because I'd get bored of being filthy rich with nothing to do but then the Colombians won't like that and they'll come and pepper me with machine gun rounds but at least I'll die with a little excitement in my life.

Wish me luck guys.

Btw, this is actually my goal in life.

It's good to have reasonable short term goals for sure, but you should always set difficult long-term goals. If people tell you it's impossible, you're on the right track.

People said Walt was dumb to try and incorporate synchronized sound into cartoons, yet he did. Snow White was predicted to be a disaster. Disneyland was deemed crazy.

Dream big, then do it. Screw the naysayers.

Sure is Zigsta being completely unfair here. I mean I could go find a **** ton of people who lost everything trying to accomplish dreams and died very unhappy men but I'm not going to because I'm trying to simply use logic rather than derp this guy dun failed so you will too type reasoning.

Also, his dream is to have enough power to make his own games, and his dream idea is a spin off of someone's ideas? Man that's kinda sad. I might as well go become an amazing artist so I can draw a different variation of the ****in' Mona Lisa or some ****. Be original and actually have goals you can achieve, so when you achieve them you can realize what ideas are and aren't ****ing ********.

Wow, falcon over here with the haterade.

Get it? It's a portmanteau of hate and gatorade.

You see, I'm saying that falcon is hating on zigsta, as though falcon were sipping "haterade."

I like how he's ignoring all the other points and focusing on the fact that Americans can be handed big name titles Nintendo kinda gives a **** about. Course the point is even more moot when you realize Teran obviously knows some Americans have done **** with Nintendo related products but-you know what, no, he's ****ing answering the rest of this.

Retro studios being the only respected 2nd party.

Everyone knows the Japanese hate foreigners, it's probably why they sold Rare the developer that made only top 10 on the system level games all the time.

I highly doubt that you'd be able to climb the ranks at Nintendo unless you already had a lot of experience elsewhere. You can't jump right in, doing desk jobs isn't going to get you any experience towards your goal, and that's what you'll most likely be doing for Nintendo if you do jump right in.

I feel like I should be helpful in this thread as a smashboarder who just got a job in the game industry at a AAA company. I got recruited out of Drexel University (in Philadelphia, PA) as a Game Designer, so I will be learning the ropes in the coming months. I am actually in the process of moving out the the west coast and I start at the end of August.

However, I can say right now that you can't really get a job in this industry by wanting it more than the next guy. You need to actually DO something. For me, it was simply making games, and remaking games and working on my own time. I only had one out of six to seven pieces that actually came from school projects. The rest were created on my own time and were projects i was truly passionate about. Which is partially why I was able to get a job.

Also, if you are old enough to attend college then you should have some game projects to show now. So link your stuff, so we can see your skills. If you don't have any playable games then you've been wasting a lot of time =P
