I'm KIND of near you, Zori (if "kind of near" means "a two-hour drive away from"). ^^;
I'm not notable, though.

If anybody wants to play online, I'm more often than not looking for an opponent (too young to go to tourneys, so I practice against CPUs and online).

Yeah. Even though I picked up Olimar recently I also decided to play wifi for a bit with him. I play a lot with Andrew and a couple of other Oli mains/ friends! And so I did pretty well at my tournament with Olimar. So wifi is helping!! O:

i have decided to start playing brawl again, and I will be working hard to further develop olimar game. btw, if anyone even reads this i have a combo thread that could be looked into if you are new, especially you today since i know you are new

i notice p~s doesn't have nearly as much trouble vs. mk's as a lot of other oli mains i know, i have no other oli players in my region at all, i'm pretty much the only one. But, P~S also quit olimar and picked up mk, and he taught me al ot of things about the mu at apex about half a year ago, like if you shield mk's dsmash and you drop shield right as it hits, you get a free one on him, same as peachs/robs dsmashes. Something i never would have tried.

We must find some way to organize ourselves BECAUSE we are so rare and spread apart, we need to find a way for us to evolve metagame without fighting each other and learning from each other.

I'v also noticed a lot more videos have been posted since I started putting some up of me, such as the massive logic ones recently shared with us all. Videos are a great start, especially for other oli mains. It may look like we all play the same to other people, but only oli players can see how much different we all play from each other...which by watching each others vids we can learn some things about specific mu's, or followups.

Sorry if post is slaughtered haven't slept in....well, i don't remember xD

Not to make D@buz angry but I really need help with the MK matchup :/

what sucks for me though is I have trouble learning stuff just by reading, I have to actually see examples.

But yeah, that's the one matchup I feel like I'm really bad at. At this point I feel like I can hang with any other character as long as I'm staying focused, but I just keep losing to MK. I'll try to get some videos of me getting ***** by MK and maybe you all can help me, last time I posted a vid of me getting ***** you guys helped a lot and I did better lol.

oh and I hate Lucario too I can't fight Lucario for ****, I know that's really random but yeah

Well, I'm glad you're coming back Icy. For good advice on the mk matchup, you should check dabuz's post on it. I think it's on the OP of the matchup thread.

Yeah I saw that post, and it helps a LOT against lower-mid level MKs, but I have trouble applying it to top level MKs. I'm afraid to jump at all now, but I love jumping haha. I learned that jumping (at the right moments) is actually key to the Marth matchup

wtf why is there a red line under Marth, the red line saying I miss spelled it

well, when you were vsing me you said you were learning mk and stopped oli, or something along the lines oli was frustrating and you wanted to mk or something, i don't remember you just taught me a lot of stuff xD.

once again dabuz reads the future and is correct about icylight coming back
well, i planned on playing starcraft 2, and then i didn't get accepted into beta and private server sandbox hasn't been made yet, and then sc2 was postponed to even further instead of march maybe aug. SO, i tried to melee it's only fun in doubles now, a few matches singles, and i figured hey mind as well brawl just a little longer. may not be around for another 2 years but will be temporarily for now

also, dabuz, we should mm again next time we play, we had some serious oli dittos going on a while back

Wifi actually helps a lot. It's mostly meant to heighten your sense if mindgames and expose you to multifarious matchups. Unless you have a bad connection of course.

What wifi is bad for is determining skill. You can assume nothing about how good a player is over wifi.

if you approch wifi as more wifi=getting better you will fail

if you approch wifi as wifi=learning you will get better

Yeah~ I learnt a lot playing Wifi. Like, if it wasn't for Wifi I don't think my Oli would have approved as much as it should have. Despite only playing him for three weeks I've been able to beat players with their mains that they've mained for years offline and at tournaments. Still so much to learn, though!! So I really hope I can just get better. But Wifi does help me so much! XP It's laggy and such, but I've played tons of offline matches so I can adjust pretty easily after a few first matches. And even then why I play Whyfly it's not even that laggy as it is for a lot of people.
Either way, agree with Draco completely!!

That and playing melee against CPUs if you don't have anyone near you who plays Melee is so bad......

Quoted for truth, and the fact that i do it all the time :(
Except for the melee part.
CPUs best suited to find a main, not practice against.

Hey, I'm looking to get better and there's no one good in my area (bunch of noobs actually) and I win all the time online. I may not be able to play a lot but I'll play as often as I can.

Wifi has been really useful for me in that it's exposed me to a lot of upper tier characters I need practice against yet can't find anyone near me to play them (like Diddy). I know that it's still different from offline, but wifi at least let's me see how those players move. Maybe this is just for me, but I figure there are other ppl who don't have Brawl communities in their backyard.

Anyways, speaking of techniques of different Olimars, I think I may have found something for American Oli's (and I guess this is where to post about it). I'm also not sure if everyone already does this, so if you do then my bad :) (And if you do, try sticking it in a guide somewhere, this is good news for new Oli's!)

A friend of mine loves watching Japanese Brawl videos (he mains Fox and Japan <3s Fox) and he happened to find a Japanese Oli called Brood. (Maybe you guys already know him, idk.) Anyways, Brood is amazing against MKs, so I tend to watch a lot of his videos, and I noticed something simple yet effective: he uses smashes to rearrange his pikmin instead of whistle. Here's some examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk7hej_mIHg
See 2:20

AND

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb1bxNdcaHY
See 1:10, 1:23, and 2:05

I'm sure he does it in other videos, but let these suffice. (You can also look up his others, he's very good, plenty to learn there.) The tech is pretty self explanatory, just do a little math and then use up smash and down smash to get the pikmin you want, but I've actually never thought of this before. It's quick, it's efficient, and it also keep the other player oblivious to your actual plans. Opinions?

Have you guys seen Icekid's olimar? He wrecked FL in the early Brawl era. I know he got like 1st @ many tournaments, and I think there was one w/ over 70 entrants where he got 1st. Even though his videos are old, there may be some tactics/mix-ups that you may have overlooked that could be helpful.

I met icekid at my second tournament in april of 2008. I asked him for advice and he told me to abuse one move -> forward air. I didn't believe him at the time and dismissed the advice even though he was wrecking at tournies. He won like the first 3 FL had and then started losing, eventually losing to my Olimar in tournament in that summer (intense ditto's, he's the one that taught me how to use up B amazingly).
