Mario: use up B to escape

DK: use bair

Link: jump and dair

Samus: jab

Falcon: dash back and forth

Ness: throw people off the stage

Yoshi: do combo to spike

Kirby: use uair to spike after shield break

Fox: do simple combos

Pikachu: throw people off the stage

Jiggly: drill from above and nair

I guess, don't go for the most techie things.

Like: Laser camp, jab to up smash, easier combos (going for more than 1 shine jab is cool but if you miss )

That helps, but any character in SSB64 can beat any other character. As there are no 0-100 match ups in this game (unlike brawl and melee)
