Perhaps. But in all honesty, I think a DK spinoff is in the works as well, and I'm positive K. Rool would be in it, so either way not much would change (except the two would just shoot ahead of basically all the competition ).


Still, its nice that Isaac and K. Rool seem to be ahead right now despite not having games in a while, while Inklings and Shovel Knight are only this high up because they're brand new. (Banjo-Kazooie is similar to K. Rool and Isaac, the only problem being them owned by another first-party.)

'Eh, I'm still 50/50 on it. Perhaps he would. It wouldn't bother me too much. I still think odds are good that both a new DK spinoff is coming soon and GS4 is in development, with both characters likely coming back anyway.


Regardless of circumstances, both characters are doing well. If we got GS4 and no signs of K. Rool, it wouldn't bother me if Isaac jumps ahead, because I'm more worried about Isaac anyway. K. Rool is by far the frontrunner right now, even if Isaac jumped ahead it wouldn't bother me, K. Rool would just be directly behind him.

If we get both Isaac and K. Rool, here's the idea I've had for both trailers. The trailer's place will be the same as Megaman and Bowser Jr.

K. Rool trailer would start with Mario, DK, Yoshi, Fox, Diddy Kong and Samus doing a friendly fight, when suddenly they are interrupted by Kremlings. They quickly managed to defeat the Kremlings but then, 6 cannon balls attack the fighters, knocking them, and then K. Rool appears with his reveal catchphrase (probably sets sail or goes bananas). Then we have some in-game footage of him fighting several fighters and KOing the 6 characters of this trailer. We then go back to K. Rool laughing with all the 6 fighters on the ground looking at him and at the Kremlings behind him that prepare to strike. This trailer ends, but for now.

We know see the Smash logo, indicating a new character trailer and it resumes the K. Rool trailer. The Kremlings jump to attack the fallen fighters when suddenly, several pillars of stone erupt from the ground, sending them flying. K. Rool gets mad and he decides to finish the fighters by himself, when suddenly, Isaac appears in his front and uses his down-smash, earthquake to drive K. Rool back. K. Rool gets up and stares at him and then Isaac casts the Move Psynergy and we see the catchphrase Isaac makes his moves. We then get in-game footage of him fighting several fighters. The trailer will end once he summons Judgement and then there will appear a message saying that both Felix and Matthew are Isaac's alts.

I think that, no matter what, K. Rool and Isaac will retain significant popularity due to the respective sizes of their fanbases. However, if a new game (featuring either character) were to be announced, it would almost definitely skyrocket their popularity, especially amongst those not within the aforementioned fanbases.

I hope that, whatever happens, both of them become Smash Bros. characters because they are definitely deserving of a place on the roster.

If neither have a new game featuring them currently in development, but they are nevertheless released as Smash Bros. DLC, I would have thought that this would push Nintendo to develop those titles anyway in order to capitalise on their renewed general popularity.

That would be a bad idea for Nintendo. They don't want to relinquish that much control of the situation. What's more, it would skew the results. When it turns out that Banjo is leading by a country mile, for example, more people would undoubtedly jump on that bandwagon, despite Nintendo having no intention of making Banjo a playable character.

While the anonymity of the results is annoying, it lets Nintendo keep a tight grasp on things. They can discard results they don't like, and they won't suffer as much backlash when people inevitably ask why the most popular character wasn't just guaranteed.

We don't know whether or not they're actually considering Banjo & Kazooie. It might be possible...although otherwise I agree.

I agree that, although it would be interesting to see how everyone is faring, releasing the poll results to the public (before them being finalised) would corrupt them, as people may vote for the popular choices, despite not originally caring for their inclusion.

Also, Nintendo/Sakurai isn't just going to choose the top few characters voted and make them playable; that would just be ridiculous. They have to consider, as a business, the feasibility of the character (in terms of gaining rights for 3rd parties) but also, as a developer, which characters will offer more variety in terms of gameplay. After all, they want to incentivise those who do not know the character to purchase them as DLC, and that won't happen if they're not very interesting from both a visual and/or gameplay standpoint.

What I was going to say, before rambling on for a paragraph, was that if they release the polls after they're finalised and certain popular characters were not implemented, there would be severe complaints from the fanbases of those characters, as Skyblade12 said.

Honestly, assuming the top pick is a character with nothing keeping the character out, there's no reason why they wouldn't pick the top pick. That said they could consider a character lower down the list.

So what will happen is they will probably take a best of 5 and decide what characters they will want to include. Based on production time, viability for the game engine and whatever "balance" scale they use. They did this before with JP polls for Brawl.

Well we will likely get Roy and Ryu even if I could care less about them. One additional open character slot means little since they can always add more if they wanted to.

We'll hopefully eventually get official art, so it won't matter (but it would be nice to have a Smashified one in the meantime, if only to make us more excited!)

In terms of how many DLC characters will be added, I guess it depends on how long they're planning to support the game with DLC, and also how many of the DLC characters will be returning. I believe, in Melee, Sakurai could have implemented either Dedede or the clones in the same time frame (correct me if I'm wrong). Although a different situation, I wouldn't have thought returning characters (especially returning clones) would take nearly as much development time as newcomers.

I do agree that the next two would probably be Isaac and Shantae. HOPEFULLY Isaac first because then we'd be 50/50 on third and first-parties. And it'd be really annoying to get another third-party just after our first first-party.

Back to Isaac, I don't think it's a matter of "number one gets top pick". I think it's an attempt at gauging fan interest and realistic potential: they need to know what's possible and what's going to sell, and Sakurai needs to know which direction to be pointed in, lest he let his bias and insecurities take hold.
