Is Sakurai mocking us technical players about L-Cancelling?

It's kinda sad that they consider good timing to be bad. You'd think that if someone was good enough to get the timing down then they deserve to cancel the move later than other people.

I'm glad I'm looking at Brawl from a casual perspective, this is like Soul Calibur 2 to Soul Calibur 3 all over again.

Why is it sad? Canceling this move makes DeDeDe flip over, and if you do it too late (i.e., you don't notice that you need to cancel in time), he hits the ground mid-flip and muffs the landing. It's realistic. If you're going to do a mid-air flip, you have to have enough clearance to complete it.

I think the people making this game are worrying more about making it realistic than about ... other concerns.

Getting knocked off a stage floating over nothing by a plumber/lizard/dinosaur/puffball/princess is far from realistic. If they are trying to make a realistic game they have failed since the beginning of this whole series.

This is a special move, and canceling it is more like giving you another option. You either jump and follow through with a ground smash, or if you don't want to do that, flip over and maybe grab a ledge or something. This doesn't really have much to do with Brawl = SC3.

You're right. I guess they shouldn't bother with things like realistic hitboxes, movement speed, lag, damage, knockback, or anything else.

That rebuttal has been used many times before and it's getting kinda old. You and I both know this game is not realistic in the sense that you are describing it, but that has nothing to do with what I was talking about.

I think intuitive would be a better description than realistic. :p

Yeah, but it stops the 'Flying penguins aren't realistic' argument. ;)

I don't understand your argument. There will still be a moment during DeDeDe's descent where it will be the last opportunity to cancel the move and land normally. Finding and mastering this moment will be good timing, and harder to initially judge than just cancelling right before you hit the ground.

...it's almost more complicated, isn't it? :p

You know, funnily enough, I see where hes coming from, the thread creator here. Judging from this and the absence of missile and laser canceling in the demo, I really think its no coincidence: Sakurai has caught on to some of these tactics. And this concerns B moves, not aerials...

If he really didnt know that people were canceling moves by using them right before they hit the ground, he wouldnt have done this, and then we would have likely been able to cancel the lag from this move by flipping over right before we hit the ground. But I think Sakurai knew better and decided to make it this way so that it wouldnt be, "exploited"...

The only counter to my theory here is that Bowser regained his flame canceling, but I believe Sakurai decided for that as a buff. If he tested other characters for B canceling moves in Melee and stumbled across Bowser's, I can see him saying "Ah, but Bowser needs to be improved, so I will just throw that back in and just not mention it outright"...

Yes. Sakurai made one of King Dedede's moves do more lag if you try to cancel it just before landing instead of in midair, because he wants to effectively insult a portion of the fans of the game, because he really just is that mean.
