We had our first actual weekly tournament with an actual pot prize involved in XGC today. Was pretty damn hype. Lots of new faces that hopefully will continue to attend. I can feel the scene growing and it's super nice.

There is a weekly gathering pretty much every Saturday in XGC. Sometimes on wednesday too but thats mostly for melee. We don't always have tournaments though.

Eirtakon happened this past weekend, and it was an amazing event. Easily the best smash tournaments we've ever had in Ireland. The venue was amazing, we had 64 entrants, and some amazing upsets happened. Melee happened at Saturday but I wasn't involved with it in any way (decided to stay home and sleep instead lmao) so I'm just gonna talk about sm4sh

Biggest upsets were Mint getting third when he previously always either got 1st or 2nd at worst and myself taking the tournament over EOE and mint. Mint's loss to Hackle was HUGE, no offense to hackle.

Mint did play Falcon for some reason though - Mint's extremely solid as all the characters but I feel it'd be more one sided in Fox:Lucario.

The Newry Bi-Monthly tournament series is returning on January 23rd with Melee, Project M and Smash 4. With Tir Na Smash #1 ending 2015 and Breaking Boundaries 2 leading the way into 2016, this will be a great year for Smash Bros. in Ireland. Hope to see you all in attendance!

Taken from my response to Dave on FB just to clear the air with anyone on Smashboards that doesn't go on FB. Dave hasn't responded to this as of right now but if he asks to change the name we'll do so immediately.

"Sorry I honestly meant the name as a sort of a homage to the older scene, I definitely didn't want to cause any offence.

I saw the name on an old YouTube video and my thought process was "that name's not bad, if we use it it might get some nostalgia going in some of the guys that used to play". There was 100% no malice intended but I can see now that I should have tried to find the person that used to run the series.

If you're not happy with us using the name then we'll change it immediately."
