Normally Ike is easy but I have trouble against the ones that spam fair and drift back ward. The range kills me. Then If I get in I'm so vulnerable to his jab. I know it sounds like I suck but this Ike was really smart with it.

I used to have the same problem. The key thing to do is shield all of his fairs. The landing lag, even if it is well spaced, is enough to be punished. Also, spacing your owns fairs, even though it doesn't have as much range, can beat his fairs since it is soo much quicker.

your 20 times faster than him spot dodge his f-air and punish him. also your d-smash comes out faster than his jab. truthfuly if your having trouble vs an ike that means hes just better than you.

with as much delay as there is with ikes fair, you can do many things to get around it, He's not Marth and can't spam a wall of them to keep you away, your best bet is to get back and watch his pattern, then dodge accordingly and grab him, as heavy as ike is you can chaingrab him with the d-throw 3 or 4 times usually, and by then all you need is a nair-loop combo to kill him.

Definitely one of the easiest matchups MK has, next to a poorly played space animal.

Trust me. If he didn't have that fair I could beat him easily

Fair has IASA frames, and it's actually somewhat hard to punish Ike when he perfectly spaces a retreating fair. But there's something wrong with that: why are you approaching? As MK you can EASILY bait/turtle Ike because Ike has virtually no good approach on MK. Everything Ike can do (except maybe jab cancels, but that's a different story) MK can punish easily. So what's the solution to retreating fairs? Don't pursue him.

Well if a really good ike can space him self away by shorthoping fair and imedietly doing AAA standard to stop you from aproaching it cancals the lag of his fair i think

Even a short hopping punch combo spamming ike will be overcome by the downtilt as it far outranges his hands.

plus ike is not the fastest character as far as moving in the air, and can easily be punished by doing any aerials aside from nair and bair

Metaknight is just better than ike in every way possible, a decent MK will kill any great ike, just a bad matchup

Stay grounded; MK is much faster on the ground than he is in the air, and you can also block the FAirs if you get in too close. Mixing up your ground approaches with either Dash Attack or grabs will make any Ike feel pressured; his moves are simply too slow to pose that much of a threat. If you do get a DThrow, watch how the Ike DI's; if they DI down, they want to tech and if they DI up they're just going to get back in a standing position. Watch for either a shield or a jab when this happens; you can rush up with a shield and then grab them either way.

Most Ike's tend to become very formulaic with their play. Usually, fair and nair to keep spacing, then spotdodge or shield, then jab. Once you've read his pattern, rush into the blind spots with a grab or dash attack. Once you get in that first hit, just combo the hell out of him since you're WAY faster.
